Many gamers who have heard or played Ogre Battle for the SNES remeber it's high praise it recieved as well as the almost infinite replay value it had attained. With it's huge quest and different classes of characters it was branded a well deserved classic. The true sequel to the game, Tactics Ogre is a FF Tactics like game, is Ogre Battle 64, and let me tell you, if you brought a 64 for this game you would not be dissapointed! This game is a classic in itself. You want replay value? It's right here as well as many classes of characters and a storyline with teeth. It is all in this magical little cartridge.
You should know the gameplay but if you don't, here is a short rundown. You make units consisting of different character classes. You can organize them as long as you want until you enter a map. There are town and castles in each map where you send your troops so they can liberate or capture them. Each town or castle you take control of gives you money at the end of the map. The map ends when you liberate the town or castle noted at the mission breifing. There are enemies that stand in you way to try to prevent you from your goal. The leaders of each unit, yours and the enemies, are displayed on the map walking to the destination you gave them, your troops, until they touch each other. When they do a automatic battle ensues and the victor is the unit who did most damage to the other unit. I tried to make it short a possible but a short rundown of the gameplay does not do justice.
The graphics are great, nothing to fancy so if you are looking for nothing but eye candy you will be disapointed, and the sound is good as well. The main story is replay. There are multiple endings and characters meaning if you played through again trying to have the same characters and such, it would be next to impossible. There is so much stuff here it boggles the mind. The story is great and should leave you very satisfied.
Overall the game would have gotten an 10 if it was not for the ending. I know that games don't even have to have a ending, but the one I got just did not make me feel that feeling of accomplishment. Granted I was evil but you still should not leave it as a cliffhanger seeing as how there won't be another sequel on the 64. That said, even if this game costs more than the 64 itself, BUY IT NOW! Quit whining about the abscence of strategy games for the 64. This can act like 6 of them with so many more classes than the original. Great game and a true new classic that should be played by any strategy fan.
