Many people remember Gameday as being the "Madden Killer" and even winning the pigskin console war one year. Well times changed and Gameday did not, and was delegated to being the posterboy of crappiness. Then along came NFL2K. Awesome display of graphics and animation made it the game to beat. But Madden has since evolved and turned into a monster. Would th 2K series follow suit of gameday or actually challenge the gridiron king for it's title.
Well we have a contender here folks. This game blew me away at first with its presentation espn style. The commentary while much better than madden's still makes the stupid comments that the series is known for. Graphics are nice and sharp and the sound is great.
This is acrcade style football, which means it is a fast paced game. Defense is a blast, unlike Madden, allowing you to blast right around or through your opponent to apply pressure. Picks are pretty common but not as prevalent as last year's title.
Some blemishes on a otherwise enjoyable game are that there are too many dropped passes. Not only that, but there are times when your reciever will seemingly catch the ball only to be touched by a defender and then drop it. Baloney.Where is the challenge system at? Also I don't see why they can't implement a new play calling system. All a player has to do is wait for his friend to pick a play and then pick one that exploits the other. The last complaint is the stupid rank system. I don't care for rankings. I want them graded on a scale from 1-100. Only a few teams seem balanced by the ranking system.
Don't be discouraged. This game is great. I picked mine up for $25 and it is worth every penny. Only a few more improvements and this game would have eclipsed madden but alas we will have to await until next year.
