Well I first rented the game thinking it would be a great title. I was wrong. It was the complete opposite. The controls work just fine, but the problem that Smugglers....I mean Midnight Racing Club has is that it is not innovative enough, to me at least, to have any fun with. Sure there are locked up cars and stuff of that nature, like different characters, but it is the same been there done that game that makes it so mediocre. You basically have to street race through streets and win respect to race other racers. Sounds good on paper but it plays out horribly on the game.
You might as well have put all the racers on a race track because thats all you do. Race with turns. Yes there are cars and pedistrians that are involved but they are just annoying more than anything when you run into them. You go from point A to point B while following a inconsistant arrow. It will change directions all of the sudden, often the opposite direction, and if you get lost then it is over since the map is next to useless. You'd figure that the graphics would be able to save it, but this is a very subpar game in the graphics area. Are we looking at a PS game here? The graphics should be top notch but look like Driver's instead.
When looking for a PS2 game to plunk down $50 on, make sure it is not this title unless you are a racing freak that is filthy rich. Too shallow and bad graphics make me wish I had never spent $6 on this game in the first place. I will save my money for a better racing game.
