Don't let the screenshot fool you. While the graphics look great, they better look great cuz this game is rather expensive, the intangibles of the game are rather average to say the least. There are some great moments in the game but they are far and few between.
First of all the graphics are great for a game that is this old. The Neo Geo's cart power shines here espicially in the stage pictured above. Fast blinking lights and special effects blanket most stages, while great looking backgrounds are found in others. This is the first fighting game of its kind which took fighters from various fighting games and threw them into one game to let them duke it out. The sound is okay but I wanted better stuff. The control is great, as with all of the KOF games.
There is some stuff, however, that just drug this game down. While you can use different fighters from different games, they are in preselected teams which means you can't pick or edit a custom team of your own. Also, the fighters have only a small assortment of moves and the specials are nothing special at all. There is warning at all. If a fighter has a fireball special then he/she may preform it but there is no slight pause like in the latter KOF games, but just a huge fireball that comes out of nowhere aand knocks away half of your life.
Hey the game is okay but nothing special. I really can't reccomend a buy since the game is so expensive but if you can get it for cheap then go for it. Just remember that this game is the baby of the entire series. Nothing special happens and the lack of picking indivdual fighters kills major points for this game. Buy at your own risk!
