Mothers Nightmare

By:Margaret (ckeeta) Helmstetter

Soft and silky I stroke your hair
You push me away
I smile and suggest a cuddle
You run away
My loving child
Where have you gone?

The words that spill from your mouth
The hate that fills you
Creating a dreamlike state
No dream, no pleasant slumbers
The horror that seeks
Destroying the good

Trying to protect
Seeking to understand
Hoping to repair the damage done
Knowing that you are helpless
The violation that has occurred
The trust is destroyed

Screaming your pain
Trying to be strong
Looking for answers
Dark and dismal
The answers just out of reach
Never ending pain

Night after night
Replaying the horror
The words of loathing
Not finding the answers
Knowing that you should have known
Trying to stop, knowing you can't

An ache in your heart
A knife in your soul
The theft of all you hold sacred
Repeating night after night
The misery compounding
You failed to protect
