STOLEN HEADSTONES

FRANCIS A. SLAUGHTER, M. D.

The obelisk of Francis A. Slaughter, M.D., is missing from a very small family cemetery located off of Slaughter Lane in South Austin, Texas.
The first photo was taken in 1973. In 1998 all that was left was the base on which it stood.
I was not familiar with the cemetery until 1998 so I do not know when the stone was removed. It reads:

FRANCIS A. SLAUGHTER M.D.
BORN
APRIL 17, 1859
DIED
MARCH 1, 1886
Blessed are the dead which
die in the Lord
That they may rest
from their labours; and
their works do follow them.
Rev. 14-15

The photo shows the base of Francis A. Slaughter's obelisk with the foot marker farther back.
Unfortunately, all that remains of the obelisk is the large square base at the head of the gravesite.

In this current photo (taken in July of 1998), Francis A. Slaughter's grave is recognizable only by the the foot marker which clearly displays
"F. A. S."
