"Are they going everywhere with us?"
"Come on Ang," pleaded Nick.
Kevin sternly said, "Yes they are."
"Well can't they ride with the band? There's no more room in here."
"Sure there is. Gracie Pooh come sit on my lap," requested AJ.
Grace looked at Kassidy who nodded. Grace climbed into AJ's lap.
"What about her," asked Angie pointing at Kassidy.
"First off she has a name and it's Kassidy," said Kevin evenly. "Second I'm sure Nick would love to have his girlfriend sit in his lap, which makes room for Kassidy."
Angie moved to Nick's lap. Kassidy climbed in and they were off. Unfortunately, Kassidy was forced to sit next to Nick and Angie. Angie was making a big display of being the loving girlfriend. She was whispering in Nick's ear and kissing him. Kassidy was visibly tense. Grace kept watching her. Kevin was watching the whole situation too. He quietly leaned forward and placed a hand on Kassidy's shoulder. She jumped slightly. Brian and Leighanne attempted to engage everyone in conversation until they got to the
arena. Once they were out of the van everyone breathed.
Kassidy and Grace hung out with the band while the guys spent the morning doing interviews. By 10am, Denise and Kelly arrived with Paula and Pollyanna Dorough in tow. Kevin's fiancée, Kristen arrived at noon.
Kassidy pulled Kevin aside before the fan conference.
"Kevin I need to apologize to everyone."
"What for," asked a puzzled Kevin.
"For causing this tension. I am merely a guest here and I've not been gracious."
"Why do you think you haven't?"
"I have not made any attempts to conceal the fact that Angie bugs the ever lovin' snot out of me."
Kevin laughed and said, "That is a unique way of putting it. Seriously Kassidy, it's OK. She bugs the ever lovin' snot out of all of us. We've just gotten use to her."
"Still I have been rude to everyone else by letting my irritation get the better of me. I'm not even quite sure why she bothers me so much," stated Kassidy.
"Don't worry about it. Come on, its fan conference time."
After the conference, the guys did a final sound check, talked to MTV, then got ready for the show. Grace and Kassidy were included in their pre-show ritual. Afterwards they joined all the family and friends in the Designated section. The guys were extremely hyper, but did a great job.
After the show, everyone headed back to the hotel. They were doing two nights in Fort Lauderdale before heading to Charlotte, NC. Howie and AJ were going clubbing and invited Kassidy. She thanked them, but declined. She was not leaving Grace alone.
"Kassidy you could have gone out with Howie and AJ."
"Nah. Clubs aren't a big deal for me. Remember I'm old. I've done the club scene."
"How could I forget," laughed Grace. "You're ancient."
"Careful," cautioned Kassidy with a smile.
"I'm getting online and check in," stated Grace.
"OK. I've got work, but I will check my email when you're done."
Grace was getting her computer out when there was a knock at the door. Kassidy answered to find Marcus standing there.
"Hey Marcus," said Kassidy with a smile. "I thought you were clubbing."
"I am," replied Marcus. "But I was sent to collect you and Grace."
"Collect us for what?"
"Denise wants to talk to you guys."
"Oh! Grace you connected yet?"
"Nope."
They followed Marcus to Denise and Kelly's room. As they entered they found Paula and Pollyanna Dorough with them. Denise wanted to know how things were going. Kassidy and Grace enjoyed talking with Denise and Kelly again, as well as getting to know Paula and Polly.
At 2am all the ladies headed to bed. As Kassidy and Grace passed Nick's room they heard yelling. Kassidy stopped outside the room. She started to knock when she heard Nick yelp in pain. Grace pulled her away from the room.
Entering their room, Grace said, "I know you wanted to help, but Kassidy you interrupting would only make things worse."
"I can't believe he puts up with her."
"I know, but until he makes a decision to stand up for himself, no one can help."
"Oh wise one, you are again correct. Ready to turn in?"
"Yeah."
Kassidy lay awake for most of the night. Her stomach was in knots. She didn't like knowing someone -was being mistreated. She had learned one bit of good news. Angie was only with them two more days. She was flying from Charlotte to Germany to promote her first album. Kassidy had also learned that Nick was instrumental in getting her the record deal. Also Denise said Nick's parents were not too pleased that Nick was asserting his independence. He was taking a more hands on approach to his career and finances. They wanted him to stay little Nicky forever. Kassidy mulled all this over and finally fell asleep around 5am.
Luckily they didn't have an early wake up call. As usual, Grace went for her run with Dennis. Kassidy woke up to find her on the computer.
"Morning. What time is it?"
"Hey sleepy," greeted Grace as she looked at her watch. "It's 11:00."
"Wow. Sorry I slept so late. Have you eaten yet?"
"I grabbed a muffin with Dennis after our run, but I'm getting hungry."
"Let me get a quick shower. We can go out for some lunch."
"Cool."
Kassidy and Grace slipped out of the hotel and found a McDonald's. They came back to pack up everything. The whole entourage was loading onto the buses after the show and heading to Charlotte. Grace and Kassidy were to have everything downstairs and loaded by 4pm. They were riding with The band, which suited them fine. The less time Kassidy was around Angie the better for everyone.
The show had a few glitches, which is typical for the second show of a tour. All in all, everyone was pleased. They arrived in Charlotte at 5:30am. James handed out the room keys and everyone went straight to their rooms.
A knock at the door woke Kassidy and Grace. It was Dennis. Grace had overslept for their daily run. She grabbed some clothes and disappeared into the bathroom. Dennis came in and bugged Kassidy until she got up. Grace and Dennis left.
Kassidy got dressed and went in search of the exercise room. She found Nick, his bodyguard Billy, Angie, and Kevin already working out. Kevin and Billy greeted her. Nick started to say hi, but didn't when Angie poked him in the ribs. Kassidy just ignored it. She stretched before starting on the leg press machine. As she moved to the bench press, she saw Angie making fun of her as she walk over to the leg press. Kassidy bit her lip to keep from laughing when Angie had a hard time pressing the weight Kassidy had done with ease. Kevin winked at Kassidy as Angie walked back over to Billy and Nick. One thought kept going through Kassidy's mind, after today that brat is gone. Kassidy found a note from Grace when she returned to the room. She had gone to breakfast with AJ.
"Gracie Pooh are we living up to your expectations?"
"Why do you insist on calling me Gracie Pooh?"
"Cause it's a cute name for a cute girl."
"Oh I see."
"How about I just call you Pooh?"
"If you must. Now to answer your question, I guess."
"Yeah that was the answer I was looking for," laughed AJ.
"What answer did you want?"
"How about. Oh AJ you far exceeded any expectations I had. You are now my favorite."
"Dream on," teased Grace.
"Oww that hurt."
"Poor baby. No you guys have been really nice. I'm still stunned."
"Why are you stunned?"
"I'm not use to this."
"It's no big deal."
"Not to you. This is your life, but it isn't mine. My life consists going to school, coming home, dealing with my parents, and hanging out with my friends, playing with my dog and fighting with my sister. You know the stuff most kids my age do. You live a very different life and I'm just visiting. I don't belong here."
"Sure you do."
"How do you figure?"
"See you are now a friend. This means that you can come hang with us whenever you want. You fit in better than most kids your age. You don't completely freak when you are around us. So you're cool."
"Well thanks."
"Anytime. Now my lady, shall we head back to the hotel?"
"Sure. Thanks for breakfast AJ."
"Anytime Pooh."
Chapter 8
A couple of days had passed and they were now in Pittsburgh. Grace and Kassidy adjusted to the schedule of being on the road. They watched the shows, hung out and basically tagged along. Grace spent time working on her article. Kassidy worked.
On this particular day Kassidy was having a lunch meeting with one of her company's clients. She had warned everyone she might have to meet with some clients while on this trip. The lunch meeting went longer than anticipated. The client insisted she come back to the office for a tour. She wound up spending the entire afternoon, so she headed straight to the arena when finished. Grace had packed up her stuff and gotten it loaded on the bus.
Kassidy walked into the arena and found her way to the dressing rooms. No one was there, so she headed for the bowl as she had learned the inside of an arena was called. As she got closer she heard the guys cutting up in between songs during sound check. She walked in as they started the next song. No one noticed her as she walked over to Leighanne and Grace. They exchanged greetings.
The song ended and Kevin asked, "Are we set?"
"We're good to go," replied the sound guy.
"It's food time," exclaimed Nick bounding off the stage.
"Yes it is," agreed Brian following his buddy off the stage.
He and Nick started to walk to the backstage area when Leighanne called, "No really Brian go on without us. It's not like it's rude to forget about the ladies sitting here watching you all rehearse."
"Oops," said Brian as he and Nick trotted over to her. "It's just I'm starving. You aren't mad. Are you?"
Leighanne gave him a stern look then laughed, "And they say I can't act."
Grace and Kassidy laughed.
"Well hello Miss Professional," teased AJ. He had walked up behind the others along with Kevin and Howie.
"Hello and stop looking at me like that," ordered Kassidy. "I'm just in a business suit. No big deal."
"I know. Why did you think I called you Miss Professional?"
Grace spoke up, "Kassidy remember none of us have seen you in work mode. You got pretty much the same reaction from me this morning."
"I know."
"Kassidy you look very nice," complimented Howie.
"Thanks Howie."
"Now can we get food," asked Brian, giving his girlfriend the pitiful look.
"Yes you can go eat B," said Leighanne with a chuckle.
"Then let's go," he replied as he pulled her to the backstage area.
"Shall we ladies," asked Kevin extending an arm to Grace.
Grace took the arm offered. Kassidy took Howie's arm. However, when they reached the room serving as the dining hall, she excused herself and continued on down the hall. Nick watched her walk. Her dark gray suit fit her perfectly. The skirt stopped just above the knee. Her hair was up in a clip. He watched in fascination as she pulled the clip from her hair and it cascaded down her back. He eyes dropped lower to rest on her bottom which was swaying side to side with each step she took in her 3" pumps. He hadn't
realized he'd stopped walking until a hand pushed him.
"Stop your gawking, there is food with my name on it in there," said AJ.
"I wasn't gawking," protested Nick.
"Yeah sure," said AJ as he pushed Nick in the room.
Kassidy joined everyone when she had changed. Nick watched as she fixed a plate. She was in loose fitting jeans and a T-shirt. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail so it swished every time her head moved. Suddenly he shook his head. Why was he watching this woman? A woman who embarrassed him when they first met. She was way older. It wasn't like he was attracted to her. He had a girlfriend. A girlfriend this woman had stood up to and defended Grace against. Nick wished he could back Angie down like
Kassidy had. At least Angie had been there for him when no one else was and that counted for something.
Kassidy turned from the food table and saw Nick watching her. As soon as their eyes met Nick looked down, getting very interested in his food. AJ called her over to the table. The only seat left was across from Nick. She sat down and began to eat. She remained quiet, watching everyone. Leighanne and Brian were talking wedding plans with Kevin. Howie was at another table eating with Pollyanna. She was with them for two more days before heading back to the studio in Orlando. AJ and Grace were cutting up and flirting. She watched them. They were cute. She could tell Grace was getting attached. Kassidy hoped AJ was careful with her feelings. Her eyes fell on the top of Nick's head. He had not looked up once since making Eye contact. He shoveled food in him mouth, finishing in record time. He jumped up saying he was going to the dressing room. Kassidy watched him walk out of the room. She excused herself as well grabbing her sandwich and drink. She caught up with Nick in the hallway.
"Hey Nick."
"Hey," said a surprised Nick.
"Can we talk a minute?"
"Um, why?"
Kassidy said, "I will tell you when we talk."
"So talk," replied Nick as they walked in the dressing room.
"OK. Boy I'm nervous."
"Why are you nervous?"
"Cause I don't know how to say this," answered Kassidy truthfully.
"Just say it."
"All right. Can we start over? I mean I've pissed you and your girlfriend off left and right. I'm sorry about cracking on you at the airport the first time we met. I sometimes forget people don't always get my humor until they know me. I'm sorry I got in your business the other night, but I will not apologize for standing up for Grace. For the record, I do that for my friends. Now I'm not asking you to be my friend. If that is meant to happen it will in time. What I'm asking is can we take the time to get to know each other and then decide if we can be friends," said Kassidy, pausing for a response. When none came, she continued, "OK. Well I gave it a shot. I will stay out of your way for the next week and half. After that I'm out of your way completely. I'm sorry we couldn't get to know each other. I think we could be good friends."
Kassidy got up to leave, but stopped when Nick asked, "Do you always do that?"
"Do what?"
"Talk so much."
Kassidy blushed and said, "Sometimes. I told you I was nervous. I don't like confrontation. Even though I seem pretty good at it. I also don't like it when someone doesn't like me that I think I would like to know. Oops I'm doing it again."
Nick grinned and said, "Yeah you are. Do you also always try to make other people's decisions for them?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, you paused for a second then decided that because I didn't answer I didn't want to get to know you. I just wasn't sure if you were through or only coming up for air."
"Oh," said Kassidy turning an even deeper shade of red and looking at the floor. Suddenly there was a hand in her face and she looked up.
"Hi I'm Nick Carter. I hear you are going be hanging out with us for a few days. I hope you have fun."
Kassidy smiled and shook his hand saying, "Hi Nick. I'm Kassidy Rivers and yeah I will be hanging around for a few days. I'm looking after your contest winner Grace Johnson. I think you've guys have met."
"Yep. She's sweet."
"Well what do we have here," inquired AJ as he lead everyone else into the room.
"Group sex," deadpanned Kassidy.
Everyone stopped short for a second. Nick busted out laughing. Soon everyone was laughing and joking. At one point, Kevin whispered in Kassidy's ear that he was glad to see she had managed to make peace with Nick. Kassidy smiled and whispered that if Kevin ever whispered in her ear like that again she was not responsible for her actions. Kevin fell over laughing. Kassidy just gave everyone an innocent smile.
After the show, they again piled on the buses. However this time Leighanne and Pollyanna begged Kassidy and Grace to join them on the guys' bus.
"EW! More girls on our bus," exclaimed Brian.
"Leigh and Polly needed help counteracting the testosterone levels on this bus," stated Kassidy.
"But this is the he-man bus," whined Brian.
"And yet they let you on," said Grace followed by a chorus of ooooohh's.
"Grace you look so innocent," said Brian pretending to cry.
"Hang it up Rok. You have just been tag teamed by Kassidy and Grace. They are killer together."
"So I see."
"If we didn't like you we wouldn't pick on you," replied Grace.
"Hey you guys don't pick on me."
"I'm sorry Howie. Did you have a point," asked Grace with a straight face.
"I guess not," mumbled Howie.
"Howard," started Kassidy. "You have just been picked on. Polly your brother is quick on the up swing."
"OK. You don't have to go for it all at once," laughed Howie.
"But Howie," stated Grace while pinching his cheeks. "We want you to feel the love."
"I feel it! I feel it!"
"Good. Now what shall we do? I know truth or dare," stated Kassidy. Everyone looked at her like her head was going to spin. "What? Almost every fanfic I've read by your younger fans has a truth or dare scene. You mean you don't do that? Even you Kevin?"
Kevin laughed, "No Kassidy we don't. You read fanfiction?"
"Yes I do and now my whole image of you guys is shattered. Shattered I tell you!"
"Poor Baby," said Nick.
"No it's OK," said a teary eyed Kassidy. "I'll get over it. It will just take a few minutes."
"Kassidy are you seriously upset," asked a concerned Polly.
Kassidy looked from her to Leighanne asking, "so could I be an actress?"
"Oh you are bad," replied Leighanne, laughing as she watch Polly smack Kassidy on the head with a magazine.
"Sorry. I just couldn't resist."
They all continued to talk on their way to DC. Once at the hotel they all said goodnight and headed to bed. They had a day off and everyone was going to sleep late. Kassidy and Grace had made plans to walk through the Holocaust Museum. It would take all afternoon, but they both wanted to do it.
"Where are you guys going," called AJ from down the hall the next afternoon.
Grace turned away from the elevator they were waiting for and answered, "The Holocaust Museum."
"That's a really happy way to spend the afternoon," commented Nick.
"Maybe not happy but important," replied Kassidy also turning to face them.
"You guys want to come with us?"
"Sure."
"AJ!"
"Come on Nick. It will be like a field trip for school. Coming Ms Rivers."
"OK," conceded Nick.
"Wait guys. You need bodyguards," stated Kassidy.
"Duh. They are downstairs," retorted Nick.
"Then come on Mr. Carter," said Kassidy with a smile.
They gathered Marcus and Billy as they ducked out a side door. They grabbed a cab and headed for the museum.
In the cab, Marcus said, "I can't believe you talked them into going to this place. Why did you guys want to go anyway?"
"I'm doing a project for school in Eugenics."
"U-what," asked AJ.
Grace laughed and explained, "Eugenics. It's the process to try and develop a perfect race. I guess that is the easiest way to explain it. It's what Hitler used. The Jews were experimented on."
"Uncool," commented AJ.
"Very uncool," added Kassidy. "I'm going, because Grace wants to and I have a friend here in DC who said everyone should go to the museum."
"A friend," inquired AJ.
"Yes a friend. As a matter of fact, I'm meeting him for dinner tonight."
"You are," said Nick.
"Yes. He's a great guy. We talk online all the time."
"Oh it's an online thing," commented Billy.
"Yes and no. We talk on the phone too."
"I've seen a picture of him. He's cute," added Grace.
"Woohoo. Ms Rivers is doing a booty call," teased AJ.
"Cute Alexander. We've arrived so get out."
The six people spent the next four hours walking through the museum. It was hard to fathom the horrors the Jews and others endured in the camps. A friend of Kassidy's parents had been in Germany during the World War II. He had gone through the camps after the war was over. It was something he never talked about. They ended their tour in the room Kassidy's friend had told her about. It was a room filled with all the leather shoes they had found in the camps. She agreed with her friend's assessment that she would never forget the smell of that room. As they walked out into the late afternoon sunlight, they were subdued. Kassidy looked at all of them.
"I have a couple of hours before I meet my friend. Let's find an ice cream place."
"Why," asked Grace.
"Because we need to have a little fun. This was important for us to see, but now we need to remember we are alive and well ice cream will do that for me."
"Sounds like a plan," said Billy as he hailed a cab.
They had the driver take them to an ice cream parlor. They managed to almost finish before anyone recognized Nick and AJ. Quickly they hopped in another cab and headed back to the hotel. Kassidy made AJ and Nick promise to have dinner with Grace so she wouldn't eat alone. The last she saw of them was in Nick's room in front of the Playstation.
Chapter 9
"AJ thanks for spending the day with me."
"Pooh I didn't want to be anywhere else."
"AJ why are we heading this way?"
"I wanted to see what's in this room."
"It's a dark room AJ. WooHoo!"
"SURPRISE!!!!"
Grace jumped a foot off the ground as the lights came on and everyone in the room yelled. She tried to make a quick escape, but AJ was faster. He dropped the bags he was carrying and grabbed her. Sweeping her off her feet he carried her into the banquet room. Everyone connected to the BSB tour was in the room and quickly crowded around them.
Kassidy hugged her young friend saying, "Happy Birthday Grace."
"Thanks Kassidy. I can't believe you did this."
"I didn't. You have Kevin to thank. He put it all together."
"Really? Thanks Kevin," said Grace stepping into Kevin's hug that lifted her off the ground.
"18 is a big birthday. We couldn't just let it slip by. Besides I had a lot of help."
"Yep like me," said AJ. "I was responsible for keeping you out of the hotel and entertained while everything was set up. And you were surprised. Yes you were. You never expected it. I done good."
Laughing, Kassidy patted AJ's head and said, "Good Bone. Yes you're a good Bone. Now sit."
AJ immediately dropped to the floor.
"There you go Grace, a pet of your very own," teased Howie.
"Is he house broken," asked Grace.
Nick replied, "Look at him and tell me what you think."
"Then you're going home with Kassidy."
"Hey I'm trainable," retorted AJ.
"Alrighty, can we get on to the important stuff, like presents," asked Brian.
Nick chimed in, "And food!"
"Presents first," declared Leighanne. "Grace will never open her presents by herself if this bunch gets a sugar high."
"What are you saying Leighanne," asked Nick pouting.
"I'm saying sugar is a dangerous thing particularly around you."
"Grace get started on your presents," stated Kassidy. Turning to Nick, she grabbed the bottom lip that was sticking out further and said, "Nick come with me to check on the food."
Everyone laughed as the 5'3" woman led the 6'2" guy out the door by his lip. AJ jumped up from the floor and pulled Grace to the table stacked with presents. He was bouncing around until she pulled him into the chair beside her. He was then content to bounce his feet and twirl his clothes.
"Coood ya le goo."
"What? Oh yeah."
"Thanks," replied Nick as he licked his lip.
"Oh Nick! Did I hurt you," asked an alarmed Kassidy.
"No."
"I'm sorry. I didn't think about hurting you. Crap that's all you need is another person abusing you."
"What are you talking about," asked Nick in wary tone.
"I mean the way fans sometimes forget that you're person and tug on you," covered Kassidy.
"It happens, but really Kassidy you didn't hurt me. So where are we going?"
Kassidy stopped walking and looked around.
"You don't know."
"Um, well I know it's somewhere inside the hotel."
"Good Kassidy."
"Look. We just follow that guy," said Kassidy, pointing to a waiter carrying an empty tray.
Kassidy and Nick followed the waiter to the kitchen. Kassidy walked in like she owned the place. She pulled Nick out of the way of the doors. Looking around she saw the waiter they had followed from the banquet room.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes?"
"Where is some of the extra food for the birthday party?"
"Right over there. Why? Is there a problem?"
"No problem. My friend is hungry and no one else was ready to eat. Mind if we help ourselves?"
"Go ahead," replied the waiter with a shrug.
"Thanks!"
"Kassidy why are you doing this," asked Nick, following her to the prep table full of burgers and junk food.
"Because you are hungry and I know what you're like when you don't get fed. Grace will be opening presents for awhile. So grab a burger and some stuff. Don't load up. You can eat more with everyone else."
"Yes mom."
"Don't call me mom"
"Why?"
"Because I was 10 when you were born and sex had not even entered my mind at the time. Also I find you far too attractive to think of you in a motherly way. You did not just hear that," finished Kassidy as she realized what she had just said.
The Carter grin appeared as he said, "So you think I'm hot?"
"I said attractive. Now eat or I will drag you out of here by your ear."
"I'm eating already," he exclaimed, taking a bite of his hamburger. "You sure are cute when you blush."
"Not another word Carter. I mean it."
Kassidy grabbed some chips and munched. Her mind was screaming IDIOT! She could not believe that left her mouth. Now this kid would tease her. Oh Lord what if he told Angie? It would be the quickest way for everyone to know she had the hots for this kid. Kid? He wasn't a kid anymore, but he wasn't…well yeah he was a man. A man with a lot of kid left in him. Ha! Sounded like most of the guys she knew. She walked over to him. He looked up as he swallowed the last bite of hamburger.
"You tell anyone I said you were hot I will retaliate. Let's head back."
Nick walked with her back the party, but before entering the room he said, "Thought you said I was attractive not hot."
"Fine you're hot. You said I was cute," she finished by sticking out her tongue.
He leaned down to her ear and whisper, "you are."
He backed in the room giving her that grin that drove girls to scream. They joined the group just in time to see Grace lift the bottom of her shirt to reveal a naval ring.
"Grace you didn't," cried Kassidy.
Everyone froze and Grace went pale saying barely above a whisper, "Yeah I did. Don't be mad Kassidy."
"Alexander I suppose you were with her."
"Yes I was Kassidy. She said she really wanted it and she is 18."
Kassidy sighed, "I don't care if you get your belly button pierced. I care if your mother KILLS me."
"She won't see it I promise. Not for a very long time."
"Good. Now how bad did it hurt?"
"Not as bad as I thought it would."
"Well take care of it. Don't let it get infected, because your mom really would kill me. Now I suggest we get food in Brian before he passes out."
"Yes! Finally someone thinking of me," said Brian. "Come on Nick."
"No you all go ahead."
"What," came the chorus of voices.
"Wait a minute," said Leighanne. "Kassidy did you get him food?"
"Yes I did. I knew he would not shut up until he got to eat, but he only got a snack. I figure this way no one loses a limb, when both he and Brian attack the food."
"Smart plan Kassidy," commented Howie.
"Why thank you D. Now everyone go eat."
After the meal, everyone danced. Grace was in the center of it all with AJ. Each one of the guys danced with her, but AJ got all the slow ones. As the party wound down, Nick got the courage up to ask Kassidy to dance. She laughed when he got on his knees. They both laughed when they realize he was still almost as tall as Kassidy. A slow song came on and Nick hesitated, because he didn't know if Kassidy would want to dance with him. Kassidy intertwined her fingers with his and pulled his hands behind her back. She explained that she danced this way with all her tall friends on slow songs. It was easier on the guy's back. So with their hands clasped behind Kassidy's back they started to move. They looked into each other's eyes and smiled. Kassidy noticed that Nick looked tired even though they had not been on tour that long. She also noticed that his eyes really were an incredible shade of blue. Nick noticed what an unusual combination of colors Kassidy's eyes were. At first glance you saw blue and green, but taking a closer look he saw gray. He also saw he could trust those eyes. Kassidy and Nick didn't notice the music had stopped until Grace came over with AJ. Everyone was going to bed. AJ, Nick, and Kassidy helped bring Grace's presents to the room. AJ hugged Grace and kissed her nose before saying good night. Nick hugged Grace and said good night. He's eyes didn't leave Kassidy's as he left the room with AJ.
"Did you have a good birthday?"
"The best."
"I'm glad Grace. You deserve it. By the way, I never saw what AJ got you."
"This," replied Kassidy pulling a necklace up from the neckline of her T-shirt.
"Oh! A single pearl. It's beautiful."
"I know. Thanks Kassidy."
"For what?"
"For helping get me here."
"Thanks for letting me tag along.
