The First Time I Met Lin

When I first met Lin, I was shocked. I had talked to him on the phone for a couple of weeks, but I had never met him face to face. So when it came time to meet, I did not know what to expect. We were supposed to meet on a Friday night in the parking lot of Blockbuster movies. It was a nice public place where I could scream for help if I had to. The whole way there, I keep praying that God would not be cruel to me and send me to meet someone that would get on my nerves worse than fingernails on a chalk board. When I pulled into the parking lot, I saw his car right away. I think I almost broke my neck trying to see into it so I would know what I was getting myself into. When I did finally see him, I remember I started chanting over and over "thank you, God." He was the most handsome man I had ever met! After I spent some time with him, I really was thanking God, he didn't get on my nerves within the first ten minutes after I met him. After about two weeks of meeting each other, we decided to date exclusively, and here we are, 1 year and 7 months later, planning our wedding. The day Lin asked me to marry him. On the last Friday of June 2000, I drove up to Lin’s house in Lumberton in a really bad mood. I had a bad day at work and I was tired. I get to Lin’s, and he decides he wants to go out to eat. That really did nothing for my mood. All I wanted to do was stay home and go to sleep. The minute we got in the car, he started acting really strange. He was very quiet, and if you know Lin, you know that never happens. All the way to the restaurant, he seemed pre-occupied with something. I decided not to pester him about telling me what was wrong. When we got to the restaurant and were seated, he started drinking beer. Then I really knew something was up. We hardly ever drink. All through supper, he kind of just made small talk and kept looking around. I was beginning to think that he was trying to hide from someone, someone he did not want me to find out about. (Laugh) After dinner on the ride home, we pretty much rode in silence. Once we got home, we went inside and sat down together on the couch and started watching a movie. He seemed awfully fidgety at this point, but I was ignoring it. All of a sudden, he stood up and faced me. He said, "you are going to be so mad" I asked him, "why, what did you do?" He said, "I was suppose to ask your dad first, but I couldn't wait." he then reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out a box. He then kneeled down on one knee. At first, I just kind of sat there in a complete stupor, I really hadn't quite figured out what he was doing. When he opened the box, all I could say was, as I was starting to sob, "Is that what I think it is?" and then I really started crying. He then asked me "Will you marry me?" Of Course I said "yes!" Oh, by the way, he was suppose to ask me at the restaurant, but he says he didn't because he didn't want me to get embarrassed. I think it was that he did not have the nerve. :):)
