2Midland Reporter-Telegram
201 E Illinois St Midland, TX 79701 phone (432) 682-5311 Web: mrt.com.
"MIDLAND - "It was just all over town, her coming up missing and wondering what could have happened," Sylvia Pearce recalled.

35 years ago, a picture of Kristy Lynne Booth was all over the news.

The 19-year-old was dropped off at a popular disco club on February 2nd, 1980. When her friend, Ron Ferrengburg, went to pick her up, her shoes and coat were inside but Kristy was nowhere to be found.

Two days later, her 1975 AMC Pacer was found on Rankin Highway with 268 extra miles on it.

"Through the years there were suspects developed and there was nothing. Never enough evidence to prosecute or to pursue, arrests made, or anything to that effect," Lt. B.J. Land, who works for Midland Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau, said.

Ferrengburg was once a suspect in Kristy's presumed homicide, but passed a polygraph test and has since died.

MPD says they're still chasing any lead that comes their way.

"These types of cases are cases you just can't close. They have to remain open so we can come to the resolution, you know, for the family's sake to have closure," Lt. Land said.

Neighbors who lived next door to Kristy's family home on Monty Avenue still hold on to the day word got around town that the nice teenage girl vanished.

"We do remember seeing her in her little car," Adela Quiroz said. "She'd drive up and leave. She was a teenager, we used to see her come and go."

"I remember we were really surprised that Kristy came up missing, and of course, very concerned," Pearce said.

Detectives say there have been no signs of Kristy anywhere--alive or not--but are still very committed to bringing answers to her family.

"Technology's changed and there's been a lot changed, and who knows, you just don't give up," Lt. Land said.

"I wish they could find something about her so there were some answers, you know. It's just, I don't know how someone disappears like that," Pearce said.

If you have any information on this case, please call Midland Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 694-TIPS."
