She became a member of First Baptist Charlotte on June 24th, 1936. Garnett graduated from Charlotte HS and attended college at TWU, then Baylor, where she graduated in 1939. She also married Kenneth Hiner that year in Grapeland, Texas where he was pastor at First Baptist Church. Throughout her life, Garnett and Kenneth lived and pastored churches in Grapeland, Houston, Karnack, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Devine and Charlotte. She also sailed on the Queen Mary from New York to London, and flew on the Concorde from Miami to Paris. In 1976, Kenneth retired as pastor and they moved back “home” to the ranch outside of Charlotte. 1Obit for Mary Stanfield.
"Mary Frank Copeland Stanfield, 94, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014. Visitation will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 6PM to 8PM. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10 am at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Honoring Mrs. Stanfield as pallbearers will be Stephen Abernathy, Glenn Stanfield, Scott Abernathy, Mark Armstrong, Dean Stanfield and Christopher Abernathy. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown. She was born on a Sunday in Pine Bluff, AR to Hazel Copeland (neé Jenkins) and Frank Everett Copeland. The family moved to south Texas when Mary Frank was a child. She graduated from Donna High School in 1938, and after graduation moved to Corpus Christi. She worked in Kress’s Department Store there and also met Hugh Campbell Stanfield. The couple married in Raymondville on September 29, 1940. Campbell worked in the oil field in Morgan City, Louisiana and they moved there immediately following the ceremony. They celebrated almost 60 years together before Campbell‘s death in 2000.She is survived by her son, Gerald “Jerry” Stanfield and his wife, Stephanie and her daughter, Lynda Abernathy and her husband, Larry; also her five grandchildren: Joe Stanfield; Glenn Stanfield and wife, Marissa; Sally Stanfield Armstrong and husband Mark; Stephen Abernathy and wife Pam; and Scott Abernathy and wife Becky; along with ten great-grandchildren; a nephew and three nieces; other family members and her late-life companion Ralph Brenneman. She was committed to her family, her Church, and her community. She served as president of the Georgetown Study Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church Seekers Sunday School class. She dedicated more than 25 years to the Georgetown Hospital Auxiliary-serving as president, treasurer and Gift Shop Chairman, among other roles. She also helped organize the Christmas Bazaar and the Tasting Table. If you knew Mary Frank, you know she expressed her love and affection for you by cooking. She may be best remembered for her crusty and fragrant sourdough bread, made with starter handed down through the family for more than 120 years. It was a great treat to be served a roll right out of the oven; still hot enough to melt butter. She was also an accomplished seamstress-making everything from curtains to clothing. She crocheted afghans for each of the grandchildren and usually had more than one going at a time. She enjoyed people and had a keen sense of humor. Most often her favorite target was herself, although she certainly wasn’t above the occasional “sponge” cake. But anyone foolish enough to publicly prank her family learned to beware! However, she forgave just as quickly. She loved family get-togethers and was in her element in her kitchen when it was crowded with friends and extended family. Those left behind will remember her generous spirit, her loyalty and her faith. And we pray that in her absence, the Lord will “guide us and direct us” to become the people she always knew we were."2Find A Grave Records, www.findagrave.com, Find A Grave Memorial# 9040345, Jul 5 2004.
