"Willie Mae Johnson Funeral services were held Tuesday in Dew for Willie Mae Coates Johnson, who died Sunday, August 13 at her home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Johnson was born November 28, 1917 at Ward Prairie to Lillie Gunter and Ernest Coates. She was married to Smith Johnson on December 15, 1934 and lived on a farm in Dew until his death on January 13, 1967, at which time she moved to Fairfield and was active in the retail clothing business. She was a long-time member of Dew United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Fairfield. Services were conducted at 4:30 p.m. at Dew United Methodist Church, with Rev. Wayne Flowers officiating. Special music was provided by Shirley Jones of Teague. Burial was at Dew Cemetery. Pallbearers were Casey Townsend, J.R. Brown, Bob Cannon, Jr., Michael Atchley, Lucas Smith and John Finley. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Brown, Hunter Curry, Wyatt Curry, Kenneth Coates, Ernest Coates, Jr., and James Don Gunter. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Oscar Smith Johnson of Dew, David Johnson and wife Sharon of Teague and Brenda Kay Johnson of Dew; her brothers, Ernest Coates Jr and wife Lila of Oakwood and Kenneth Coates and wife Bernice of Tyler; Her grandchildren, Vicki Brown and husband Jimmy of Teague, Julie Atchley and husband Michael of Dew, Beth Smith and husband Lucas of Fairfield and Casey Townsend of Dallas; and great-grandchildren J.T. and Cooper Brown of Teague, Carly Atchley of Dew, Reagan Amick, Hunter Curry, Wyatt Curry and Connor Smith of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Bill Allen Johnson; and her brothers, Alton Coates and Gunter Edward Coates The family asks that memorials be made to Dew United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Fairfield, or an organization of choice. "Cora Bennet Richardson Linson, my paternal grandmother, was the daughter of Dr. Alexander Richardson (a medical doctor), of Buffalo, Texas. Her mother was Nancy (? my memory fails me, and I've misplaced some written material) Clark. She had sisters: Emma (m. Fred Hill) lived in Fairfield, TX, Belle (m. Louis or Lewis(?) Compton) lived in Teague, TX, Mattie (m. Fenton Smith) lived in Teague, TX; Maggie (m. ? Black) lived in Dew, TX and later in Teague, TX, and brother Furney Richardson lived in various places in Freestone County, TX, I know of Dew, TX and Fairfield, TX in his later years.
Nancy and Alexander Richardson died in different influenza epidemics in the 1890s. When Dr. Richardson died, Emma went to live with her namesake, her mother's sister Emma and her husband whose name I have forgotten; the other children went to Dew, TX (an unincorporated rural community) to live with their maternal uncle John Clark, who was a single man and remained so all his life.
Cora married Laurin Queston Linson, who was killed along with his father Walter Thomas Linson in a gunfight in Buffalo, before my father (named Laurin Queston Linson after his father) was born. She never remarried, but had a long career as a teacher and school administrator.
She and my father returned to Dew, and lived with Uncle John Clark, until my father graduated from high school and went off to college (one semester at U. T. Austin, then to Tyler Commericial College, where he attained a Master of Accounting degree). He worked briefly for the M-K-T railroad in Tyler, then moved to Palestine, where he lived the rest of his life, working for the Int'l and Great Northern RR, which was absorbed into the Missouri Pacific Lines. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestine Independent School Dist. for 18 years, and later a member of the Anderson County School Board for a few years. He married my mother, Evelyn Cone, in 1934. They had one son, Laurin Martis Linson (me).
Emma Richardson Hill had three sons, Frederick, Richard, and Suel. Frederick never married. Richard married Myldred (last name?) and they had two children, Dickie and Sue. Suel married Oneta (last name?) and they had one son, Roy. Emma, Frederick, Richard, and Suel are all deceased and I have lost contact with their offspring.
Maggie Richardson Black had (at least) three children: sons, Laurin Queston Black, and another son who died in early adulthood, but whose name I do not recall, and a daughter, now deceased, (I have a mental block against the name, perhaps Catherine) who married Emory Partin (I have had no contact with Emory since sometime in the 1990s, and do not know if he is deceased). The Partins had two daughters, one of whom is deceased.
Fenton and Mattie Smith had a son, Fenton, Jr., now deceased, and a daughter, Eva, who I believe is also deceased. Eva married a man named Eli Bobrow, they lived in New York, and they had two children, Gloria and Tony. When Eli died, Eva and her children moved back to Teague, TX. I have lost contact with them.

"Funeral services for Mr. Fenton Robinson Smith III were held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 11:00a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Rev. Jeff Powers officiated. Interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Smith passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. He grew up in Teague and graduated with the T.H.S. Class of 1968. Mr. Smith loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. One of his favorite pastimes was to cook BBQ and he entered numerous cook-offs throughout the years. Mr. Smith worked for TDC for years until his recent retirement.
