"Mr. Stephen Thomas Denny, 71, of 137 South Grace St., Crockett, passed away Sunday, Sept, 17, in a local hospital. Mr. Denny was a lifelong residen tof Crockett and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a former banker and insurance agent, a director of the Davy Crockett Federal Savings & Loan Association, a member of the Crocket Rotary Club, and elder and decon of the Presbyterian Church. Funeal services were held at 5p.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Sebesta officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Velma Denny of Crockett; a son, Steve Denny, Crockett; also a number of nieces and nephews. "Mrs. Velma Satterwhite Denny, age 103, of Crockett passed away on October 7, 2015 in Crockett. She was born September 11, 1912 in Shady Grove to parents John and Nancy Elizabeth Satterwhite. Mrs. Denny graduated from Crockett High School and from Tyler Commercial College in Tyler, Texas.She was Area Secretary of the State Department of Public Welfare in Crockett, an office that was responsible for five counties, specifically, Houston, Madison, Leon, Freestone, and Anderson. Later she was employed as an independent insurance agent, the owner and operator of the S. T. Denny Insurance Agency. On October 12, 1941 she married Stephen Thomas Denny. They had only one child, Stephen Thomas Denny, Jr.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crockett, and served as vice president and secretary of the Presbyterian Women. She was a choir member and a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Denny served as chairman of Circle III and later as secretary of Circle III.At the time of her passing she was the oldest and longest-serving member of the First Presbyterian Church in Crockett.She was chairman of the Harvest Festival in the Crockett schools and a Home Room Mother for twelve years. She was a fifth generation Texan and a member and a member of the Republican Women. Mrs. Denny was a charter member of the Monroe-Crook House and served as co-chair of the social committee. She was a member of the Downs-Aldrich House and of the John H. Wooters Library. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Thomas Denny, her parents, John B. and Nancy Elizabeth Satterwhite, all of her sisters, Elizabeth Satterwhite, Mae Eichelberger, Evelyn Edmiston, Hortense Satterwhite and Faye Walsworth, and her closest friends, Dorothy King, formerly of Crockett and later of Palestine, Carrie Belle Dugan of Crockett, and Anita Byrde Craddock Bigger of Crockett. Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Denny will be held in the First Presbyterian Church of Crockett on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Tom Ainsworth officiating. "BOWIE, Jake Bridgwater, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in Bowie, Texas. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas with Mike Henson and Darrell Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Salona Cemetery in Bowie, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 til 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas in the Fellowship Hall. The family requests that memorials be made to the Student Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church of Bowie, Texas. Jake was born on January 9, 1933 in Vashti, Texas. The family moved to Bowie shortly after his birth. At the age of 9, he contracted Osteomyelitis and fell quite ill. The Masonic Lodge in Bowie arranged for an ambulance to carry him to Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. He remained in the hospital for three years and endured 13 surgeries. The doctors did not expect him to walk or again or much less play sports. When Jake returned to Bowie to continue his education in the Bowie Public Schools, he proved the doctors wrong. While in high school he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He played on the Bowie Jackrabbits basketball team that won the state champions three years in a row in 1951, 1952, and 1953. Jake graduated in 1953 and enrolled in the University of North Texas in Denton. During the years, he married his Bowie sweetheart Melva Jean Richardson in 1956. When they both graduated in 1957, they made their home in Bowie and began teaching in Bowie. Jake taught science and coached at Bowie Junior High. He continued to teach and coach at Bowie Junior High and Bowie High School. In 1974, he was named the Assistant Principal at Bowie High School and served in that role until 1994 when he became the Principal of Bowie Primary. He retired after 39 years of service in Bowie Public Schools in 1997. Jake is remembered fondly by the students he taught and coached. As an Assistant Principal and Principal, it was always apparent that he had a heart for students and a love for teachers. He was a 50 year member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church where he served a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a dedicated husband, father, and brother. His five grandchildren adored him, and he loved them and supported them continually. He loved horses, raising cattle, and working at the barn. He will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jean Bridgwater of the home, Tammy Sue Brown and her husband Darrell of Grapevine, Julie Irene Henderson and her husband Steve of Wichita Falls, his five grandchildren, Bethany Smith and her husband Paul, Jace Brown, Bryce Henderson, Chase Henderson, and Maddie Henderson, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Fred H. and Iva Irene(Brown) Bridgwater, his sisters Mary Elizabeth Tucker Whatley, Francile Hooks, and LaNell Hall, and his brother, who was killed serving in World War II, Horace Bridgwater."4Find A Grave Records, www.findagrave.com, Find A Grave Memorial# 91473647, Jun 6 2012.
