"France Arnett Meier, 86, of Arlington, TX, passed away on February 17, 2015. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on August 11, 1928. France graduated from Big Spring High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Science from Washington University at Saint Louis. He Joined the UTA faculty as an associate professor in the Industrial Engineering Department in 1965, became a full professor in 1969, and served as department chair from 1969 to 1974. Under his leadership, the faculty of the department developed the graduate program and awarded the first master's degree and the first Ph.D. degree. He was instrumental in this most important step in the life of the department. During his tenure as chair, the department became viable with both graduate and undergraduate programs. For many years, he supervised the industrial engineering capstone course. His dedication to excellence was an inspiration to each of the students who struggled with and passed this most difficult and challenging course. For his commitment to the profession of engineering education, and for his ongoing interest in the growth of the students and for his dedication to the University of Texas at Arlington, the title of Professor Emeritus was awarded on October 16, 2001. He served for years as the faculty sponsor of the student organizations American Institute of Industrial Engineers (AIIE), the Engineering honor society Alpha Phi Mu and the Industrial Engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. He was also a founding member of the UTA Student Advising Association. He received an award from the Computer Science Department for fostering the development of the Computer Science Graduate Programs. In 1984, he received the Distinguished Service Award from AIIE. He was a member of the Honor Society of International Scholars Phi Beta Delta, and the Computer Science honor society Upsilon Pi Epsilon. He held offices in the international Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering. He retired in 2000. Beyond his commitment to his career, there is his joy and dedication to his family. He married the former Betty Claire Brock on December 20, 1958 and had three children and four granddaughters. His wife and children showed devotion to him and with the values and goals learned from him; his four wonderful granddaughters blossomed in his love for them; and in all the goodness and wisdom he represented to them which, in turn, inspired all four of these wonderful young ladies to attain their high achievements and be admirable persons. Well done, France Meier, you have surely earned your rest. He is survived by his wife, son Kevin Meier, daughters Kathleen Tocco and Kimberly Meier, son-in-law Patrick Tocco, daughter-in-law Suzanne Hemby Meier, grandchildren Katherine Meier, Kristen Meier, Kassidy Tocco and Kayla Tocco. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas."

The newspaper has its roots in five predecessors, beginning with the Waco Evening Telephone in 1892. The Tribune-Herald took its current identity when E.S. Fentress and Charles Marsh, who owned the Waco News-Tribune, bought the Waco Times-Herald. That purchase was the beginning of Newspapers, Inc., a chain which eventually owned 13 newspapers. Founded 1892 (as the Waco Evening Telephone).

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, September 15, at the funeral home Garden Room. Mack was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, to the late Arthur and Cora McLain. He graduated at age 16 from Paschal High School in 1938. Mack joined the United States Air Force on January 5, 1942. Before being stationed overseas, he married Eleanor NeSmith, on June 5, 1942. Mack served 28 years in the Air Force and flew 67 missions in northern Italy and France during World War II. During his military career he received his Bachelor of Science degree while stationed in Maryland and Juris Doctorate in Alabama. In 1964, he became professor of aerospace studies and director ROTC at Baylor University. Mack retired from the Air force in 1969, and worked for two decades as Vice President of Manufacturing for Success Motivation Institute before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Shriners. Mack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor McLain. Survivors include his daughters, Tara Zander and husband, Bill, Lisa Langlotz and husband, Charles, and Laura Hodges and husband, Kim, all of Waco; grandchildren, Kyle Zander and wife, Jennifer, of Frisco, Kristine McDonald and husband, Michael, of Waco, Alec Price and wife, Carla, Kirk Zander and wife, Kimberly, Triniti Hall and husband, Andrew, Kelli Zander, all of Waco, Brandon Hodges and wife, Lacy, of Crescen, and Kaitlynn Hodges, of Waco; 13 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and many friends."3Find A Grave Records, www.findagrave.com, Find A Grave Memorial# 117056373, Sep 14 2013.
