Vivretts/Viverettes Who Served in Time of War

Revolutionary War

Thomas Viverette(1750-1791), the patriarch of the Viverette/Vivrett families in America, contributed his services to the united colonies in their efforts to win Independence from Great Britain. Through him several of his descendants have become members of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution (SAR and DAR).

TENNESSEE VIVRETTS IN THE CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY

Information supplied by Monsignor Owen Campion
(The following correspond to the list of Tennesseans in the Confederate States Army on file at the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville. This list was compiled by transcribers working from records written in longhand. It has been updated, and attempts have been made to perfect it. Nevertheless, some questions remain. As a matter of my own research, I have compared the names on the list with those appearing on the various censuses of Wilson County, Tennessee. The units all were composed of men living in Wilson County or nearby. Most of the young Vivrett men at the time enlisted. Wilson County was very strong for secession. Three states, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia put the matter of secession and connection with the Confederacy to the people. In the Tennessee plebiscite, secession won Wilson County by over 80 percent. A considerable outpouring of men enlisted for Confederate military service. Of the male descendants of Thomas Viverette alive in Tennessee in the spring of 1861, fourteen enlisted in the Confederate States Army. Two were killed in action. Two were captured and imprisoned. In addition to these men, sons of Bedy Vivrett Brown, and through her grandsons of Micajah Vivrett, enlisted. One was killed in action. Actually, however, considering the losses experienced by other Wilson County families, fatalities among the Vivretts on balance were few.)
