Why The Poetry Forum Began
The idea for The Poetry Forum was first conceived a while back. It was made because I wanted other poets to be able to share their writing along side mine. Poems side by side, quite a sense of fighting along side one another in a war to bring quality works to the reader. I know this probably sounds funny, but in the short time that I had been on the web, the majority of what I saw in poetry and written works was of bad quality; a lot of pages out there who want poetry that didn't take much reaching to write it. Displaying works to compliment or suite the "idea" of their site, their "theme", and that leaves no space for honest, thought provoking and beautiful poems. That is really my goal. I want that type of writing here, and that is why I made the poetry forum. But I don't want to be so lewd as to say, "If you're not a deep intellect, then you should leave." That's simply wrong and I've stumbled across those sites whose soul desire to make you leave either a better or more troubled individual. This is poetry, works from within. Enjoy your reading.
Brief History
The Poetry Forum originally opened
somewhere between October and December of
1999, ( I did not take the date
unfortunately) and was housed under my
homepage. Among my first submitters were
Gino Sanchez and Jennifer Cantu. When I
decided that I wanted to remodel my
homepage at the beginning of the
millenium, I also wanted everything to
be remodeled, including the Poetry
Forum. Upon doing so, I realized that I
needed more space, and so I moved here
to Angelfire (which had previously been
dead space). I hope that the Poetry
Forum continues to grow, being that it
is now a seperate entity from my
homepage. I would like this to be a
homestead for any poets who would like
some exposure, even if little, to the
millions and millions of internet users.
Site Content
The Poetry Forum houses poetry of all types. Name the emotion and it's here. This is not a biased website, however the type of poems that won't be found here are the rude, offensive, or intentionally obscure poetry. There may be a few risque poems, but not anything outside of that. Death wishes and bloodsucking is not really on this site.
The Poetry Forum has many features including The Poet Gallerys, where all of our poet's keep their poems. A Poem of the Month is updated monthly, as well as our Poet's Forum E-zine. Please stop by and visit both. The Poet's Forum E-zine is still new, but making it's way slowly along the literary world. Check out the submission guidelines on submitting any type of work.
You will not find any hit counters at The Poetry Forum, hidden or otherwise. We feel that something such as that could seriously take away from the importance of the poetry, being that people can get caught up in a counter race or something. The amount of people that have been here is better left secret, you know you've been here, and you can take something with you.
