The Wayward Christian

Sin and trials are before my eyes,
My inner man sobs and continually cries.
It seems the light of day is so far out of sight,
As the enemy comes round, prowls and then bites.

I cried to the Lord Who knows all things,
He said "There's something you're hiding deep down within".
"Be careful" He said "Don't become lukewarm or cold",
I cried "Lord, it's my flesh; I can't seem to get hold".

My eyes watered 'cause I knew I had strayed,
I know the great price my Lord had paid.
Through anger and bitterness and trials of sorts,
I know He still loves me although I fell short.

"I'm tired of suffering with tears in my eyes",
"I'm tired of following all of Satan's lies".
I cried "Help me, Lord, help me be free",
"Open my eyes again, so I can see".

He said "Look at My book, collecting dust on the shelf"
"It's full of great love, riches, and very much wealth".
He said "Read Genesis all the way through Revelation",
"It will show you the beginning and end of creation".

"I'm always here", He said "I will never leave you",
"I will take your grey skies, and make them blue".
"Trust in My words, read them day and night",
"On your dark roads, it will be a torch and a great light".

I cried, "I need You more and more each day",
"I know You're the potter and I'm the clay".
"Touch me, Lord, let Your blood cleanse my heart,"
"I'm tired of sinning and being set far apart".

He said, "If you follow My ways and seek not your own",
"I will soften your heart that you have made stone".
"Stone can be broken, then ground to dust",
"Look at My words, in them put your trust".
