Our History

"Wanna buy a raffle ticket for two bucks, lady?" Fourteen years ago a woman won Yankee in a raffle in Lockhart, Texas. She resold him to one of my dad's friends, who gave him to us. He was handed down to me when I was 10 years old.

We rode every day we could. We were inseperable. We knew all the neighbors for miles. When I ran away from home a few years later I slept on my saddle, used my dog for a blanket, while Yankee stood directly over us. Every day after school I went straight to the barn instead of homework. We taught each other to jump. He would chase me around the yard playing tag. We would ride just to visit other horses in the area. He had lots of friends. He even ran away to Goldie's coral when I had to stop riding him.

He has a history of accidents. He was stolen from me just two years ago. A few months later he ran into something, lost a piece a skull bone between his eyes. He ran me into a fence post trying to impress me (ran to Goldie's a week later). He was stung by a bug while his head was thru a fence (the grass is greener there). He shaved a large portion of his neck drawing back. Horses lose heads that way, so we got lucky this time. We had our share of hardships.

At times he looks so wild, when he is really the sweetest horse you ever met. He loved children and giving 'pony rides'. We used to do birthday parties. We would ride down to the river and let the kids wash him off. He was loved by (almost)all who knew him. He did bite occasionally, and was often hard to catch.I said he doesn't like men, but there were exceptions, my little brother and our next door neighbor.

I have been blessed to have known Yankee. I can't describe how special he was. I think most of my nieghbors would agree. His actuall name is Uncontested, and he was a purebred Arabian from rich bloodlines. (See his amazing pedigree!!) Truth be told, none of that stuff ever mattered to us.
