Chapter 3
“So, this is Brian, Kevin’s cousin. He is the new member of the group.” Said Mr. Pearlman with a smile.
Brian had walked in the room carrying a basketball and wearing his fitted Kentucky Wildcats cap. Nick was also a huge basketball and sports fan, and figured that he and Brian would get along just great. While Nick was younger than the others in the group, he never felt like he was an outcast. The others were in the same type of position he was in. They were all guys that loved to sing and perform, and all in all, that was the most important thing.
“Dude, you like basketball?” Nick asked the new member.
“Yeah, and you?” Brian responded politely.
“Dude! Do I like basketball?? Come on! It’s the best sport going…okay, other than football. But, yeah, it’s all cool!” Nick said with a grin.
“Then I challenge you to a game of one on one after rehearsals. Whaddya say?” Brian asked, his Kentucky accent in full force.
“You’re on!” Nick said as they followed the others into the conference room.
Kevin, Howie, and AJ all were in the corner chit chatting when we walked in the room. Suddenly it seemed as if I had all eyes on me. “Hey Nick, who’s the cute chickie that came with you?” AJ asked.
“Oh, guys, this is my best friend Sunshine. She and I have been friends for years now and I invited her to come down and meet everyone. I hope you don’t mind if she hangs out with us.” Nick said with a huge smile.
“How cute, Nicky’s got a girlfriend.” AJ teased.
“Oh no, guys, I’m not his girlfriend. Like he said, I’m his best friend. But, it sure is really cool to meet you all! You guys are all that he talks about.” I said trying not to blush.
The guys easily accepted me and we all soon were chatting and laughing,
most of it at my expense of course. It wasn’t long until Brian
and Nick became best buds. As fast as Mr. Pearlman said they could
take a break, Nick and Brian were out back tossing the basketball.
