“Nick, you aren’t still mad about that trip are you?” Kyla asked him sincerely.
“Naw, it’s just that it makes me feel bad that all I do is get in your way and stuff. You see, there was something that I wanted to do when I was up there with you, but, well, because of the circumstances, I didn’t feel it was right.” he said as he turned away.
Kyla looked concerned with the way Nick was acting. He seemed so sad, like he had lost something very dear. “Nick, what was it?” she asked.
“I can’t tell you now. Maybe some other time…after you get your
book done.” he said and then walked off towards the back door.
He soon found his way out to the huge pool in the backyard. His
house overlooked the ocean, and the view was stunning. It was something
out of Architectural Digest Magazine…the pristine view, the amazing architecture,
the design, everything. It was everything Nick had ever wanted…and
now that Kyla was living here, he could tell that it was all she ever wanted
too.
Nick hung his feet into the pool. Thoughts ran through his head as to what he should do. He loved Kyla with all his heart. It was such a strange relationship though. She was a writer…he was a singer. They had little in common, but they seemed to be perfect matches for each other. There was just something about her that drew him in. Was it her smile, her persistence, her beauty, intelligence?? He just couldn’t pin it down to one thing, but he did know in his heart…that he loved her more than anything in his life.
Kyla had wandered out to make sure he was okay. He was very melancholy compared to his usual self. “Nick, what is wrong? You are acting funny.”
“Yeah, but Trinnie, honey…there is just one thing in my life that would make me feel better. But, right now…I can’t have it.” Nick said as his feet stirred the water in the pool.
“What is it that you want so badly?” Kyla questioned tenderly.
“You.” he replied.
Kyla sat there, completely stunned. “But Nick, you do have me.”
“No, not the way I want you.” he looked at her.
“Gee, aren’t you a little forward today.” she joked.
“Kyla, I am trying to be serious here. I didn’t mean ‘sex’, I meant that I wanted you…for all of my life.”
Kyla didn’t know what to say. Nick was basically proposing to her…yet, he wasn’t. She couldn’t understand why, though. “Nick, why can’t you have me for all of your life? I don’t think I am going anywhere.”
“Because, like you said…I interfere with your career, and your job should come first. Your books are supposed to be the most important thing in your life, and all I do is get in the way. I don’t want to be the third wheel.” he said continuing to swish his feet in the pool.
Kyla looked at him thoughtfully, and then said something amazing. “Nick, you can have me that way, my books mean nothing to me, if it means that I can’t have you.” She then nuzzled up to him and kissed him lightly on the cheek.
“But…” Nick tried to say, but was soon cut off.
“No buts, Nick. No book is worth losing you over. There will be other times that I can work on the book. Let’s just concentrate on us for a while.” she smiled.
Finally Nick got up the nerve to ask what he had been wanting to ask for such a long time. “Kyla Trinity, I love you with all my heart, and I wanted to know if you would marry me?” he said on one knee next to the pool.
Kyla’s eyes welled up with tears, and she quickly said, “Yes, I will Nick. I love you baby.” She then knelled down and kissed him passionately.
The two of them were so wrapped up in the moment that they didn’t realize
how close they were to the pool. Suddenly, Kyla lost her balance
and tried to grab Nick to keep from falling. However, Nick was startled
by the motion and the two of them went tumbling into the pool.
Seconds later, they came to the surface, totally stunned. Despite
the accident, the two started laughing uncontrollably and ended up splashing
each other in the face.
“You are such a ditz!” Nick laughed at Kyla.
“And, you kind sir, are a big dork!” she giggled in return.
They finally got out of the pool and ran inside to change their clothes.
“Nick, honey, why don’t you call the guys, and ask them to come over for a barbeque? It should be really fun. Invite them all, and then we can tell them the good news.” she smiled.
As soon as Nick was done changing, he got on the phone and called AJ, Brian, Kevin, and Howie and asked them to come over. The guys all agreed, especially AJ, who couldn’t turn down a party. It wasn’t long before everyone got there.
The afternoon was filled with laughing and joking and lots of fun.
