My step-grandfather Clarence and I were planning to go camping together. I arrived at the Gallia County Farmhouse very late at night, walked into the kitchen and spoke with Clarence. We hadn't yet prepared the things we needed to take with us and Clarence told me he had to get a battery out of a jeep he had. Then he had to gather together some other things and load them up. Then we had to drive to the camp site and set up the camp.
It was a Saturday night. The more I contemplated the matter the more I hesitated to start out so late.
My grandmother Mabel walked into the kitchen. I told them both I thought it might be better if we waited until another night to go camping. Clarence said he agreed with me. But he said he would rather go right now if I wanted to. I said, "No, I want to go. I think it would be a lot of fun."But I thought it was simply impractical to go out there at this time of night and it wouldn't be any fun. I looked at a clock on the wall and said, "It's twelve fifteen. Realistically it would be three fifteen before we got finished, don't you imagine."
It seemed as if we definitely needed to wait until another night.
