COUCH MOTOR LINES

Couch Motor Lines was founded by Kirk Couch in 1944 and, through a series of mergers with Shreveport motor lines, grew to include 13 terminals, 325 pieces of equipment, and 450 employees. In February of 1960 the contract by Red Ball Motor Freight to buy Couch was signed and approval was sought from the I.C.C. Final approval of the sale occurred in June of 1962 and the name was changed to Red Ball Motor Freight (Southeast),Inc. Major cities then served by Red Ball included Little Rock, Memphis, Jackson, Mobile, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Red Ball and Red Ball Southeast were merged in name in June 1964.

This pin was awarded to Fred Moore for his first five years of safe driving with Couch Motor Lines.

This advertising item was provided by Mrs. Martha House. Her husband, Jewell House, was an original employee of Couch Motor Lines and Mrs. House joined the company in 1947.

This badge was donated by Loy Stucky. His career began before Couch Motor Lines was formed, driving for a company owned by Kirk Couch which was contracted to haul freight for the Louisiana and Arkansas Railroad. Mr. Stucky's seniority date with Couch was April 14, 1945.
These pictures were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Loy Stucky and were taken before his first trip to Memphis in 1952.

The following pictures are shared with us due to the generosity of Mrs. J.H. McDowell. "Whitie" McDowell's seniority date was November 29, 1943.
