Prayer Chain In The News

Recently the Pushnfroggie Prayer Chain was featured in our local newspaper, The Puyallup Herald. Below is the article, the picture that goes with it is better off not seen, in my humble opinion, as it was mostly flowers and cherubs and me.

SIMPLE PRAYER REQUEST TURNS INTO AN INTERNATIONAL CHAIN.

Joan Worley merely laughs in disbelief when she thinks about how far her prayer chain has traveled.

Three years ago, her granddaughter, Nicole, was born after only 24 weeks in the womb. Nicole lived for five months and was never able to go home before she passed away. Worley asked some on-line friends of hers to pray for Nicole and soon a phenomenon took over. Those praying for Nicole monitored the site everyday on her progress, and, as they were checking in on the little girl, their friends started logging on and praying too.

Originally designed as a prayer chain for pre-mature babies, it started to grow in requests for anyone and everything. "We currently have 133 members on my prayer chain," Worley said. "But those that receive it send the requests on to four or five other prayer chains which in turn send the requests on to hundreds of others."

Worley has prayer chain members from almost every state. The occupations of those involved range from ministers, nurses, teachers, housewives, and those from all walks of life.

She said there have been prayer requests in many different forms. Some of which include requests for people's pets, and various disasters --- from job losses to cancer.

Cheryl Bean, of Houston, Texas, said while she has never met Worley, she knows Worley is a wonderful person. So much in fact she sent her Mothers Day flowers this year.
"Many have been touched by her ministry," Bean said, "Prayer is an important thing to do. This is a wonderful show of love and caring for one another --- it is nice to know people care."

The chain had also stretched as far as Equador, Japan, and Africa.

Everyday, Worley receives anywhere from 100 to 200 requests that she narrows down to about 20 for the web site.
She spends roughly three hours a day working on her prayer chain.
"It is amazing how powerful prayer can be,: Worley said.

Bean agreed. "There are so many things the Internet is used for these days and some of them are negative," Bean said. "This prayer chain is definitely a positive thing it is being used for. "She is most certainly an unsung hero in Washington State."
