Can I join B.A.W.L.?
Yes. There are no special qualifications. Young people and adults are welcome.
How can I join B.A.W.L.?
Use the online form or send a check for $25 for an individual, one-year membership or $30 for a household membership to B.A.W.L., P.O. Box 580007, Houston, Texas 77058.
What does that get me?
Members can attend the annual conference at a discounted rate. They can participate in meetings, vote, and run for office.
Can I submit my work to the b.a.w.l. Point pen?
Yes, if you are a member. The editor's name and address are on page 2 of every issue. See the latest issue on the home page.
What do you accept?
Look at what has already been published. The limits are 800 words for prose articles and 50 lines for poems. We also consider graphics, suitable for photocopy reproduction (but no one ever submits any). Obscene, libelous, and inane material will be rejected.
Do you pay?
Yes. $5 per article or poem, up to $10 for multiple contributions in a single issue.
Why is the b.a.w.l. Point pen online in PDF format?
The PDF format preserves the appearance and content of the original document, including fonts and graphics.
Why don't you use HTML?
It's too much work to produce the newsletter in multiple formats.
Why don't you distribute it in plain text?
Again, it would take a lot of effort to convert the file to plain text and make it readable.
What if I helped?
You're more than welcome. E-mail me.
Can I submit something to your contests?
Yes. See the pages for the novice competition, open competition, or student competition.
Can I attend the conference?
Yes. See the conference page.
When is the conference? Where is it? How much does it cost?
See the conference page.
Can I volunteer to work on the conference?
Yes. E-mail the conference coordinator.
Can I speak at your conference?
If you can speak on a topic that is appropriate to the conference, and if you are willing to volunteer your time, please send a proposal to the conference coordinator. We are not in a position to pay expenses.
Do you make a profit from the conference?
No. We try to make conference fees match expenses. B.A.W.L. is a 501(3)(c) organization and is not allowed to make a profit. The treasurer's report appears every month in the b.a.w.l. point pen.
Can I donate money or materials to B.A.W.L.?
Yes. Donors have sponsored special competitions and other efforts such as our magazine, Galaxy. Because B.A.W.L. is a 501(3)(c) organization, your donation is tax deductible.
