Dedication

"If something comes to life in others because of you, then you have made an approach to immortality."

(Norman Cousins)

John Norman

To the brilliant author, sociologist and scholar John Norman this website is dedicated with gratitude for the countless hours of discussion, thought and sheer adventure those of us who have read his words have experienced. I first learned of Gor years ago when I *sneaked* the books from my brother's room and read them in stunned amazement.

I was 14 years old.

(note: I ended up being a fairly "normal" person, so apparently I was not "hopelessly corrupted" by reading the Gorean books, which at that time were freely available as Sci-Fi, and NOT considered "objectionable for a minor" by idiotic and brain-dead censors)

I confess that after going to Gor the stories of hobbits and Elves were dim in comparison. I can only dream of what might have happened if Mr. Norman and Mr. Tolkien had ever gotten together.....At the very least I think that the story of Aragorn and Arwen would have ended very differently and she would not have just faded away after he died. The only woman in all of Tolkien's stories I ever really respected was the Rohan girl who loved Aragorn so hopelessly, disguised herself as a man to follow him into Battle, and died fighting a Ringwraith. I think she would have fared far better on Gor; some Gorean Warrior would have seen what she was worth and grabbed her, snapped steel on her neck and she would have lived happily ever after.( At least that is MY opinion )

Thank you Mr. Norman for giving teen-aged girls (and some "older" women, too) a world with panthergirls, Talunas, Ubaras, Tatrix, and Free Women as well as all of those fabulous, sexy slavegirls, and NO Elves or Fairy Princesses! You did not insult "mortal" women by making Elven women more desirable than humans; you created women that made at least one girl I know (me) far more aware of herself as a female and proud of it. Most adolescent girls are struggling with poor self images and doubts, lost in the pages of your wonderful books I became someone I liked. I believe those fascinating hours reading your books changed how I felt about myself.

To those who say Gor is cruel to women I would like to point out the hundreds of horrible accounts of rape, sexual abuse, wife beating and assault that scream from the front pages of every Newspaper in America. Slavery as it exists in Gor may be harsh, but it is not wantonly cruel or abusive. Women on Gor seem to be far more valued than they are in much of our so-called civilized society. I personally think Mr. Norman was commenting on this reality in a very subtle way......Amaneris

~Chronicles of Gor~

The kajira called "reivia" has done a superb job of making short plot outlines available for each of the Gor novels. She states on her page that the text files were written and offered with permission from Marcus_of_Ar. Information is available on this site for ordering copies of the books (as well as credits for the cover art) from a current Publisher. The above picture is from Dancer of Gor.
Thank you reivia. Your website is superb!

"One of the differences between the Gorean books and the average science-fiction book is that the Gorean books do not promulgate the standard monothink of the contemporary cultural establishment. In this sense, perhaps they are either behind, or ahead, of the times. They are founded on biology, and not political myth, democratic or otherwise."

...AND...

" It is no wonder that they prove to be so controversial to the puppets of current conditioning programs. At any rate, I think we should rejoice that something a little different has managed somehow to be published in these years of subtle, pervasive informal censorship. Indeed, given the power of castration liberalism, wimpery, lesbians, feminist editors, etc, it is quite remarkable that they have been published at all. Hurrah that any of them ever got published."

This link is to an open forum for postings concerning Gor. Please consider registering and joining this group, I did.

I would also like to dedicate this website project to the countless men and women who love Gor as I do. For your websites, irc channels and Publications I say a profound "Thank you".

I have no idea if this project will proove to be of any lasting value to anyone, but I certainly can say that building this has affected me in many ways and challenged many of my viewpoints. I have grown as a person. ( My typing has improved considerably, too... )
