Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. (VVA) was founded in 1978. Its Congressional charter was granted in 1986, and it remains the only veterans service organization devoted exclusively to improving the lives of those who served in uniform during this nation's longest and most devisive war.

As the leading Vietnam veterans advocate, VVA provides support and assistance in securing benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs. VVA plays an active role in government relations advocacy at the federal and state levels to improve benefits and services available to our nation's veterans.
VVA is the largest national service organization devoted exclusively to Vietnam-era veterans. Our chapter and state councils provide leadership and education opportunities as well as interaction with state and federal government officials. With your help, we will forge a strong future. VVA's untiring efforts on behalf of America's veterans have consistently championed exemplary causes. And the record clearly shows that we do make a difference.
VVA has played a leading role in: Forcing the VA to award compensation to veterans affected by Agent Orange; Fighting to enact judicial review legislation, which established the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals; Creating the Vet Center program; Establishing the Veteran's Job Training Program; Setting up VA Centers for minority and women veterans; and, ensuring the viability of the VA health-care system.

POW/MIA REPORT
As of January 27, 1998, there are still 2097 Americans still unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. Thuis breaks down to 1517 in Vietnam, 449 in Laos, 75 in Cambodia and 8 in the territorial waters of Chine.
In addition to those 2097 unaccounted for from Vietnam there are 41 unaccounted for from the Persian Gulf War. 8168 from the Korean War, 78,777 from World War II and 3350 from World War I. This total of 92,433 Americans unaccounted for from wars of this century is totally unacceptable. Although we realize that there is no way all of these can be accounted for, there is someone somewhere that knows something about a lot of these Americans and they have covered this knowledge up and that is what is so unacceptable.
Acting Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Toga West, Jr. recently stated that the POW/MIA flag would fly every day of the year at the Headquarters, Department of Veterans Affairs, instead of the stated six days listed on the Defense Authorization Act. Thank you Mr. West, thank you for caring and thank you for showing initiative!
