Tyrese Gibson

Tyrese Gibson was born December 30, 1978 in Watts, California. He is the youngest of four children that was raised by a hard working single mother named Priscilla Murray. Substitute fathers filled in for the missing father in Tyrese’s life such as his music teacher-Reggie Andrews.

He is a typical ghetto success story with him abstaining from drugs, alcohol and cigarettes for 13 years. When he was 14 he won the Coca-Cola talent search, he appeared in the commercial singing on a bus. He won the contest by singing “A Ribbon in the Sky” that stole the show despite him arriving 2 hours late.

RCA defeated every single music company that sought Tyrese after seeing the commercial. In 1998, “Tyrese” was released and went platinum. He won an American Music Award and was nominated for a Grammy. His second album is called 2000 Watts in honor of Watts, California.

He was a model for Tommy Hilfigure and appeared in limited ads. Tommy made the mistake and let him leave the company. Tommy still uses his ads to this day. He signed with Guess? that used him in many ad campaigns. He was named one of People Magazine’s Sexist Men Alive for 2000.

Tyrese organized the 2000 Watts foundation to help children from his neighborhood. He buys his mother gifts since she is so kind hearted that she would give any money he gave her away.

Tyrese was the host of MTV Jams for MTV. He appeared on The Parent Hood (although most of his footage is edited out), Martin, Hangin With Mr. Cooper, Blues Clues and Moesha. He will make his film debut in “Baby Boy” featuring Snoop Dog, Ving Rhames and Omar (not Cuba) Gooding. “Baby Boy” is released on the 10th anniversary of John Singleton’s landmark movie “Boys In The Hood.” Both movies feature a Gooding brother, Omar in “Baby Boy” and Cuba in “Boys In The Hood.”

After Baby Boy, Tyrese played Roman Pearce in 2 Fast 2 Furious (the second movie from the Fast & Furious series). He followed that with the failed film-Flight of the Phoenix in 2004. In 2005, he starred in the movie Four Brothers.
