Below is the link to my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Holistic Nutrition. I chose Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy due to it's impact upon the Great Dane and other large breeds of dogs. In the Great Dane rescue group that I volunteer for, we get a lot of dogs turned over to us because the bones have malformed and the vet costs have exceeded the owner's budget. The owners tell us they have to either put the dogs to sleep or give them to us. If we get these dogs at a young enough age, we have been able to completely reverse the damage and raise perfectly healthy and proportionate animals. It is my hope that others will make use of my findings and spread the information on what it takes to properly nutritionally raise a large breed dog.
