Whoever you are and wherever you fit on the Steppers For Christ Drill
Team, this is your basic guide to the Steppers Core Values.
Integrity is a character trait. It is the willingness to do what is right even when no one is looking. It is the “moral compass” the voice; the voice of self-control; the basis for the trust imperative in our drill team.
* Integrity is the ability to hold together and properly regulate all of the elements of a personality. A person of integrity, for example, is capable of acting on conviction. A person of integrity can control impulses and behavior.
* Courage - A person of integrity possesses moral courage and does what is right even if the personal cost is high.
* Honesty - Honesty is the hallmark of the Steppers For Christ, because in the drill team, our word must be our bond. We don’t blame each other when things go wrong. We don’t cover - up mistakes, we don’t falsify bad decisions, and we don’t mislead anyone. The bottom line is we don’t lie, and we can’t justify any deviation.
* Responsibility - No person of integrity is irresponsible; a person of true integrity acknowledges his or her duties and acts accordingly.
* Accountability - No person of integrity tries to shift the blame to others or take credit for the work of others; “the buck stops here” says it best.
* Justice - A person of integrity practices justice. Those who do similar things must get similar rewards or similar punishments.
* Openness - Leaders of integrity encourage a free flow of information within the organization. They seek feedback from all directions to ensure they are fulfilling key responsibilities, and they are never afraid to allow anyone at any time to examine how they do business.
* Self-respect - To have integrity also is to respect oneself as a leader and a human being. A person of integrity does not behave in ways that would bring discredit upon himself or the organization to which he/she belongs.
* Humility - A person of integrity grasps and is sobered by the awesome task of witnessing God’s Holy Word.
Service before self tells us that leaders duties take precedence over personal desires. At the very least it includes the following behaviors.
* Rule Following - To serve is to do one’s duty, and our duties are most commonly expressed through rules. While it may be the case that leaders are expected to exercise judgment in the performance of their duties, good leaders understand that rules have a reason for being, and the default position must be to follow those rules unless there is a clear, operational reason for refusing to do so.
* Respect for others - Services before self tells us also that a good leader places the team ahead of his/her personal comfort. We must always act in the certain knowledge that all person possess a fundamental worth as human beings.
* Discipline and self-control - Leaders cannot indulge themselves in self-pity, discouragement, anger, frustration, or defeatism. They have a moral obligation to the person they lead too strike a tone of confidence and forward-looking optimism. More specifically, they are expected to exercise control in the following areas:
Anger - Steppers For Christ Officers especially Majors and Captains at all echelons to refrain from display of anger that would bring discredit upon themselves and or the Drill Team.
Religion - All Steppers For Christ Officers are to be born again Christians. How can we witness to others if we are not Christians ourselves.
* Faith in the System - To lose faith in the system is to adopt the view that you know better than those above you in the chain of command what should or should not be done. In other words, to lose faith in the system is to place self before service. Leaders can be very influential in this regard: if a leader resists the temptation to doubt ‘the system’, then subordinates may follow suit.
Excellence in all we do directs us to develop a sustained passion for continuous improvement and innovation that will propel the Drill team into long-term, upward spiral of accomplishment and performance.
* Personal Excellence - Officers must seek out and complete all task, stay in physical and mental shape, and continue to refresh their Christian Beliefs.
* Community Excellence - Community excellence is achieved when all members of the organization can work together to successfully reach a common goal in an atmosphere free of fear that preserves individual self-worth. All members must be able to pass all classes in school and stay out of ISS, and WAC... Some of the factors influencing interpersonal excellence are:
Mutual respect - Genuine respect involves viewing another person as an individual of fundamental worth. Obviously, this means that a person is never judged on the basis of his/her possession of an attribute that places him or her in some racial, ethnic, economies, or gender-based category.
Benefit of the doubt - Working hand in glove with mutual respect is that attitude which says that all members are ‘innocent until proven guilty’. Before rushing to judgment about a person or his/her behavior, it is important to have the whole story.
There are reasons why we recognize the Steppers For Christ Core Values and have developed a strategy to implement them.
The first reason is that the Steppers For Christ Core Values tell us the price of admission to the Drill team. The Steppers For Christ Drill team personnel whether director, officer, matron, and supervisor must display honesty, courage, responsibility, openness, self-respect, and humility in the face of this organization.
All of us must accept accountability and practice justice, which means that all Steppers For Christ personnel must possess Integrity First. At the same time, a person’s “self” must take a back seat to the Drill Team Ministry. Rules must be acknowledged and followed faithfully; other personnel must be respected as person of fundamental worth; discipline and self- control must be in effect always; and there must be faith in the system. In other words, the price of admission to the
Steppers For Christ Drill team demands that each of us places Service before Self. And it is imperative that we all seek God for Excellence in all we do whether it be Drill Team, Home, Work , School and Community.
The second reason for recognizing the Steppers For Christ Core Values is that they point to what is Universal and Unchanging in the Drill Team Ministry. Some persons are bothered by the fact that different officers of the Drill Team have different responsibilities. Other persons are bothered by the fact that the Drill team operates in a Chain of Commands. These persons have demonstrated that they are not Drill team material. In all that we do in this life, their will always be someone over us.. Even if you become head of an Corporation or Even the President of The United States their will be someone you will have to follow and listen to... Any persons of the Steppers For Christ Drill team that feels they do not have to listen to any Higher ranking officer or adult will be asked to leave the Drill team Ministry and not return. It is impossible for an organization to run correctly with out values and duties.. The Steppers For Christ Core Values are to capture the richness that is at the heart of the Drill Team. The values are road signs inviting us to consider key features of the requirements of the Drill Team, but they cannot point out everything. By examining integrity, service, and excellence, we also eventually discover the impotence of duty, honor, dedication, and the call that God has placed on our Ministry.
The third reason for recognizing the Steppers For Christ Core Values is that they help us get a fix on the organization as a Ministry. How successful are we in trying to live by the Core Values? Our answer to this question is in the way we behave when no one is watching us. We, as members of the Steppers For Christ Drill Team have to recognize that God has chosen each of us for a very special duty. We, are more than just a Drill Team. We are an unique group of young Christians boned together to preach God’s Word through drilling.. Our mission is clear, We are to proclaim his word and live a Christian life. This is our Duty.
OFFICERS VALUES
GUIDELINES TO REMEMBER
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE AN OFFICER IN ORDER TO BE A LEADER.
THE LEADER OF AN ORGANIZATION IS KEY TO ITS MORAL CLIMATE. ( AS DOES THE MAJOR, SO DOES THE CAPTAIN AS SO ON..)
LEADERS CANNOT JUST BE GOOD; THEY ALSO MUST BE SENSITIVE TO THEIR STATUS AS ROLE MODELS FOR THEIR PEOPLE AND THUS AVOID THE APPEARANCE OF IMPROPER BEHAVIOR.
LEADERSHIP FROM BELOW IS AT LEAST AS IMPORTANT AS LEADERSHIP FROM ABOVE IN IMPLEMENTING THE STEPPERS CORE VALUES.
