The History Of Steppers For Christ

How It All Begins. . .

The Steppers For Christ Drill Team was organized in November of 1991. Mrs. Toni L. Edwards was named Director of this unique group of young people. In June of 1993, the Steppers For Christ attended their first National Baptist Congress Drill Team Competition in Detroit, Michigan. All though the team did not rank that year, everyone was pleased in the effort that the team had shown.

In 1994, the team begin attending various workshops and competitions through out the state strengthening their skills. The 1994 Congress was held in Columbus Ohio. The Steppers For Christ did attend, and were blessed to receive a perfect score in basic commands, but still not able to rank in the Top 12 Teams of the Nation. In August of 1994, the team was asked to perform for former Governor Ann Richards at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Waxahachie, Texas.

In December, the team was honored to perform on B.E.T.'s Heart and Soul Gospel Show. Many accomplishments were made in that year, but the teams goal was to rank with the top Drill Teams of the Nation. In June of 1995, The Steppers For Christ Drill Team attended the National Congress in Phoenix, Arizona. We believed in our hearts that this would be our year. . . This time when the awards were passed out, the Steppers For Christ were among the Top 12 Drill Teams.

Since then the Steppers have attended the Congress each year and each year have been among the Elite Drill Teams. The Steppers For Christ Drill Team is a vital Ministry within the Samaria Missionary Baptist Church, where our efficient, effective and eradite leader is Pastor Darron L. Edwards, Sr. The Steppers are dedicated in serving God through Drilling.

Matron's and Supervisors of The Steppers are: Mrs. Florence Edwards, Mrs. Margaret Venters, Mrs. Brenda Russell, Mrs. Loretta Reagor, Ms. June Flowers, Mr. Otis Reagor, and Mr. Don Edwards Jr.
