
Ringgold Middle School students compete at district vocational meet
HARLINGEN - Five Ringgold Middle School students enrolled in vocational classes won several ribbons at the District 13 competition on March 14.
Benito Garza won top honors for the junior high, taking first place in the Measuring and Cutting event at the meet, held in Harlingen at Texas State Technical College's campus.
The gold-medal winner also won a second-place silver medal in tool identification and placed fourth in Electrical/Plumbing identification.
"He did great,'' RMS Building Maintenance teacher Joseph Seale said. "He's going to go (to state) and win again.''
The state competition will be held on April 22-25 in Amarillo, Texas.
Four other Ringgold Middle students won ribbons and medals at the district competition.
"They did real great,'' said Seale, in his 23rd year of teaching.
Guadalupe Gonzalez won a silver medal for his second-place finish in Measuring and Cutting. Gonzalez also won ribbons for his fourth-place in Nail Driving and fifth-place in Tool Identification.
Sergio Mallagan won a bronze medal for taking third place in Nail Driving. He also won ribbons in Measuring and Cutting (4th place) and Electrical/Plumbing Identification.
Rodrigo Aguilar won a bronze medal for taking third in Measuring and Cutting. He also won a ribbon for a fourth-place finish in Tool Identification.
Hugo Mendoza won a fifth-place ribbon in the Nail Driving event.
