EVERT T. "SHORTY" BOYD whose daughter, Jo
Ann Boyd attended RHS & graduated with the Class
of 1948, attended Ranger High School himself in
the 1920's before his father moved the family to
Abilene to avoid the encroachment onto their
farmland by the oil people who set up tent cities
on the Boyd farmland without permission. He went
on to graduate from Abilene High but died in 1983
and is buried at Colony Cemetery. His wife was Mrs.
"Shorty" Boyd who died in 1998 in Waco after living
for over 50 years in Ranger.
He raised polled Hereford cattle and was noted for
the good quality of his "beefers". He was proud
of his cattle and took great pride in constantly
improving his herd. He was a Master Mason and a
member of The First Christian Church of Eastland
at the time of his death from heart failure.
WIFE: FLORIENE "FLO" MILDRED HORN BOYD who
died in 1998 in Waco after living for over 50 yrs. in
Ranger. She was married to Evert T. "Shorty" Boyd. She
was a graduate of Abilene High School & attended Hardin-
Simmons as an art student. She and Mr. Boyd eloped
in March of 1930 to Dallas when they told her mother,
Mrs. Horn, they were going to the grocery store to
get a chicken to fry for supper.
She lived in Ranger with her husband for over 50 years
on the family farm and ranch. She helped with all
aspects of farm/ranch work as well as sewing. She
was an artistic and talented seamstress, cutting her
patterns from newspapers after seeing a photo in a
magazine. She lived from 1983 until her death with
her daughter Jo Ann in Waco.
She enjoyed playing 42 & 84 with her friends in Waco.
During her last years she was unable to sew very much
due to degenerating vision, but she continued to make
doll clothes and dress dolls as a hobby as long as she
could see.
