BERNITA GAILEY STRINGER, 30, and her daughter Lisa
Stringer (4 years old) were killed by a gasoline
explosion at their home outside of Gordon, TX, on
June 17, 1974.
Bernita was the daughter of Selma and Nick Gailey,
born Oct. 24, 1944. The Gaileys lived at their
ranch near Strawn. She attended Ranger High School
in the Class of 1962 at Ranger, TX. Kynn Stringer,
the husband and father, who was a rancher/farmer
died about three weeks later at the burn clinic in
San Antonio. The explosion occurred in a shed outside
the farm house. Kynn was fatally injured when he
attempted to save his wife and daughter from the
conflagration. The only survivor, who was not involved
in the explosion, is a daughter, Cynthia Stringer
(RHS-1985), who was raised by her grandmother, the
late Selma Gailey Rushing. Cynthia now resides in
Ranger. Bernita's siblings were Beverly Gailey
Eddleman (RHS-1956) of Ranger, Byron Gailey (RHS-1952)
and Bobby Gailey (RHS-1951) of Strawn. Siblings who
are deceased include Barbara Gailey Waddington, Benny
Gailey (RHS-1958), Betty Fawn Gailey and Billy Gailey
of Strawn.
