Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1943

Schley Lemma SCHLEY DEE LEMMA, 74, was born Nov. 14, 1925 in Ranger, TX to the late Burnice and Monnie Lemma. He attended school in Ranger, TX until his family moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where he graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines as Chief Radio Officer in WWII. Schley retired from Tuloso-Midway ISD in 1989 after 37 years of public education service. He was most known and admired for his extensive devotion to the education and development of youth. He devoted a lifetime of service to the Boy Scouts of America which bestowed upon him their highest award, the Silver Beaver, for volunteer service. He was a member of Sunset Masonic Lodge #1368 A.F. & A.M. and was a deacon at Gateway Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. He led by example with honor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy Lemma, who also attended school in Ranger until the family move to Corpus Christi. Jimmy would have been in the Class of 1948 had the family remained in Ranger. Schley was married for 52 years to Joyce Swinney. They had four children, Schley, Jr. of Long Beach, CA, Cindy Axt of of Lakeland, FL, Robin Sellman of George West, TX, and Amy Medina of Belton, TX. He was a great family man and adored his children and 8 grandchildren. Fishing the coast and ham radio were his greatest hobbies. He passed away on Oct. 23, 2000 in Corpus Christi.
