    The Alamo was the First Spanish Mission. It was established in 1718 as Mission San Antonio De Valero. The Alamo was the site of the battle in 1836 in which 189 defenders held the site against 4,000 Mexican troops for 13 days. This is known as the Battle of the Alamo. Today the Alamo is maintained by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The Alamo includes a shrine, two museums, a theatre, a research library, and landscaped grounds. The Alamo is open year round for visitors and is located at 300 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, Texas. The phone number is (210)225-1391.

    The Rivercenter Mall is a mall which is located in downtown San Antonio across from the Alamo. The mall is a three story glass mall built on the San Antonio River. There are tour barges which go up and down the river which allows visitors to view all of the shops and restaurants which are located on the Riverwalk. You can board the barges at Rivercenter Mall on the lower level.

    San Antonio hosts a variety of cultural interests. There are places such as HemisFair Park, which hosts the Tower of the Americas, which was built in 1968 for the Worlds Fair. The Tower stands 750 feet tall and has a revolving restaurant at the top. There are theme parks which are for the whole family. There are parades which include the celebration of Fiesta, The lighting of the Riverwalk at Christmas, and several others. There is a Trolley which is a replica which takes visitors on a one hour journey through more than 250 years of San Antonio history.

    The Market Square is a three-square-block area which is the romantic center of San Antonio's Hispanic culture. The San Antonio Botanical Gardens is a 33-acre garden featuring the diverse flora of Texas from East Texas piney woods to the Hill Country and South Texas shrub country. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park has four missions located along the Mission Trail. The Mission Trail begins at the Alamo and winds southward along nine miles of the San Antonio River. The San Antonio Zoo hosts 3,400 animals of more than 700 species. The San Fernando Cathedral is the original church of the Canary Island settlers. The church was built in 1731 and is now one of the oldest churches in continuous use in the country.
