Working Rant

Dear Diary,
If I had to sum up all of my best working qualities into one phrase, I would say it's that I enjoy a challenge. I love learning something new, the thrill of finding some new and creative way of solving a problem, and the drive of motivation for a job which I enjoy. The problem with my job right now is that there is no reward for excellent work. Semi-adequate work will get you the same pay raise. Going out of one's way to help a customer is not recognized, because the management doesn't care. The work force is disposable and therefore must put up with the miniscule pay raises and shoddy treatment from bosses who will punish responsibility in the workers. A worker who simply doesn't show up for work is unreprimanded. However, a worker who uses the system to indicate when they will not be at work or who calls in sick, is threatened with termination. Why? Because they choose to allow themselves to be tracked. No effort is made to track those workers who don't call in, or who don't show up. Rules and regulations are not consistently applied to all, and the system encourages mediocrity. I want something more.
