Greek Mythology

Greetings my fellow Cyberians and welcome to my home away from home! I first fell in love with Greek Mythology in college and I've grown to love it more and more each day. I love the purpose of the myth--to explain how or why something is the way it is.

My favorite example is the Myth of Spring. When the god of the Underworld, Hades, kidnapped Persephone, the goddess of spring, Persephone's mother, Demeter, caused the world's crops to freeze and die. A bargain was struck in which Persephone would spend six months with Hades and six months with her mother Demeter. When she is with Hades, we have winter; when she returns to Demeter, we have spring.

It was fascinating tales such as these that drew me to learn more about Greek Mythology. So, when a TV series called "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" debuted, it was only natural that I fall instantly in love with it as well. Besides being an excellent way to become familiar with the great Greek Myths, it's also a fabulous show with fabulous characters portrayed by fabulous actors with fabulous abs!

This page is dedicated both to Greek Mythology and the series that has put it back on the map, so to speak. This is an on-going project and I will be adding more things as I find them. So sit back, enjoy, and check back soon!

Greek Mythology

Greek Mythology is the study of the beliefs of the Ancient Greeks. There are several types of myths. Creation Myths are just that. They endeavor to explain how and why the world began. Some are Eteological Myths These attempt to explain why something is the way it is. The Greeks may have asked, "How does the sun move across the sky?" The answer is in the myth of the sun god Helios and his Chariot that he rides across the sky. These kinds of myths helped to explain the unexplainable.
