We Met in the Middle

It was in a dense Texas woodland
I commenced to run
The blackberry brambles tore at me legs,
convinced that they had won

But ran I did, Undaunted, north
stumbling through the brush.
The sun was hid in canopies thick
Something drove this rush

I was not fearing,
nor was I wild
some pinnacle of avid hope
set my soul afire

I pull apart each wand’ring shade
of verdant emerald green
as I ran, purposely
all my senses keen

Then I was struck with sweet sensation
dusty floral perfume
And far in the distance where the wind was cold
icy mountains loomed

But there weren’t alpine peaks in Texas
how did this occur??
Out of the wood I was quite stricken
what miracles they were!!

For lo amidst the spaec there was
‘twixt the Texas woods and heights of Maine
A field vast and beautiful
a sea of crystal blue plains

Bluebonnets lay in odorous splendor
waved 'neath the breeze
your form in the distance and mine where is was
we bridged the space with ease

I know not how the two states met
being opposites, a riddle
but here we were in a lupine field
we’d finally met in the middle
