Philosophy

Phi 153

Magruder "Philosophy is interesting, and he knows it well. He is TOO knowledgeable, in fact. His lectures tend to get off-base and lose you. He is a nice man, but his tests are hell. If you are a praying person and like to spend hours reading and re-reading Descartes, Aristotle, and Kant, go ahead. DO NOT take this course for an "Easy A" elective. You'll be wasting your time." - Student - Grade: C "If you are looking for something to do n your spare time do not take this class because you will fall flat on your face! he know his shit too well and there is no way to bullshit through his class and he is very serious about his work!" - Student - Grade: F "Contrary to popular opinion, philosophy is not an aweful course. With Dr. Magruder, you get to read ancient and modern philosophers. He is a great professor; if you read and pay attention, then you will have no problem in this class." - Student - Grade: A "When I signed up for philosophy I thought it was going to be an interactive class. Little did I know that all forms of teacher to student communication was forbidden. Magruder spends the ENTIRE class talking to either the chalkboard or the podium. When he asks if there are any questions he doesn't look up to see if any hands are raised. His lectures are boring and he never engages his students in conversation. It seems as if he has been doing this for so long that you could tape record his lectures and play that in class instead of having him physically there and you would achieve the same effect. His tests are completely absurd and unless you're willing to devote every waking second to memorizing the text word-for-word you won't make the grade you want. Mulitple choice tests and philosophy just don't mix. Trust me, this is not a blow-off course and not something anyone should take as a filler or elective. The material could be interesting but first you would need an interesting teacher who likes students for that to happen. ." - Student - Grade: C
Phi 223

Magruder "If the people who do not understand philosophy would make as much effort reading as they do in there fraternities and sororities, they would realize that there is a whole other world outside there little glass houses. Try studying as much as you party and you might enjoy the ideas and thoughts of others. Information is not education, but interpretation is your means to educate yourself instaed of playing the blame game. My advice yo you is to grow up. This is not high school and it is people like you that will never make it in this world because you do not take responsibility for yourself." - Student - Grade: B
Phi 241

Magruder "Great class to take if you lack sleep at night. The reading and the prof will put you right to bed. I have never met a man who is so monotone. I do not think he could get worse if he tried. Other then that he is a great teacher. His tests come from the book readings so if you understand them you will have no problem. He is willing to explain them to you if you seem like you have tried to understand them on your own. I never went to class and made a high B." - Student - Grade: B HOME | Add Your Own Thoughts
