MTH 120

Miller

"Dr. Miller makes a very difficult class understandable. He doesn't take attendance, but don't miss a day. Very good teacher." - Student - Grade: B

MTH 128

Pace

"She gives homework, but doesn't pick it up. When the test comes, you don't know if you are doing the work right or not. She LOVES to give GROUP projects work. If you make a simple mistake on an exam, she marks the whole problem wrong." - Student - Grade: C

MTH 133

Price

"As one of my fellow classmates put it, "He's a real cool cat, but his class is rough!" He's a likeable, entertaining guy. If he assigns homework for a week, he doesn't take it up until the friday of the following week. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. It gives you extra time to do it, but you can fall behind VERY quickly and never catch up. He drops the lowest test grade and replaces it with your homework average if it's higher, so do your homework! He will NOT drop the final though. He gives you the chance to earn extra credit, but the problems or puzzles for extra credit require a membership in MENSA or at least a doctorate in Math! In our class, he got like 3 or 4 lectures behind the homework assignments he was giving us, so life got really interesting at test time. His tests aren't that bad, but you run into trouble because you're not always sure what he's asking for. Yuck! I'd take him again if my other choices were Ritter and Dumes!" - Student - Grade: D

MTH 134

Roy Joe Harris

"By far the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very nice and understanding. He has a great sense of humor and makes class interesting." - Student - Grade: B

MTH 138

Alexander

"Ok first off, NEVER TAKE A MATH COURSE AT SFA!!! With that said, Alexander is not as much hell as others I have heard about but he does assign ALOT of homework. His tests are hard and not what you expect them to be. They combine all the concepts from three chapters into 20 problems. The trouble with this is he does not explain how each concept effects the order in which you do the problem. If you do take a math course make sure that it is your only hard course that semester. Alexander gave about 75 problems a night to be done. It is impossible to work, keep up with other classes, have a social life, and deal with his class all at the same time." - Student - Grade: Dropped

"This is the worst teacher to take in the whole wide world!!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He teaches to THE UPPER LEVEL ONLY...so if you're an average student looking for some kind of steps on how to do a problem do not lookk in his direction. This is a very nice man, but a horrible teacher. He tells you not to be ashamed about asking questions, but turns back arround and says, "You should have learned this in High School Algebra"...Or "Talk to me after class"... or He'll give a speech about if you're not catching on just quit now! This man is the Devil when it comes to math! He might know his math but he can not teach it! This man will die before he actually learns how to teach! I am so upset with him for getting paid for doing NOTHING! He gives assignments before you discuss what to do. Not to mention when he gives assignment he gives them in some stupid _ss format! JUST GIVE THE _AMN ASSIGNMENT! ONCE AGAIN DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! HE SHOULD BE FIRED! HE DOESN'T TEACH HE TALKS TO HIMSELF AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WAY ADVANCED! TAKE IT FROM ME" - Student - Grade: F

"I heard that he retired..let's hope so because he is the most difficult teacher in the entire universe. I AM CONVINCED that he knew the subject..but if you were an average student like myself, give up right then and there. He was not encouraging...his taught the lesson after homework was turned in. He gave a math problem to figure out what problems to do for that nights assignments. I hope you understood that. I know it would not be in anyone's best interest to take him. May I suggest Wood....(She's good!) and I made a B." - Student - Grade: F

Price

"This class was a waste of my time. The lectures in no way corrospond with the tests. Very random topics are usually what the class consists of. Gives no curve and does not give ANY excused absences. Do not take this class! " - Student - Grade: B

Ben Sultenfuss

"Very hard class. Tests are very challenging. I made straight A's in all of my high school classes. And it is the same material. Make sure to go and talk to him a lot to get on his good side." - Student - Grade: B

Ritter

"OK, where do I begin? First off, she looks like the stereotypical female math teacher on TV--funky hair, thick glasses, monotone voice, and the same pair of shoes in five colors! Images of the Wicked Witch of the East come to mind (and trust me, you will be singing "If I Only Had a Brain" by the end of the semester). She is a very nice person--as a person. As a professor, her evil rivals the AntiChrist. Her techniques of tortuere include 25+ problems per night, and tests that will boggle your mind. She MUST be a direct relative of Speedy Gonzalez, or at least has delusions of being so. She does not know how to slow down below 75 wps (words per second). This class at SFA is a death wish at best; with her it is straight-out suicide." - Student - Grade: Dropped

"The virgin bride of Satan! She knows her math though! Bring a telescope to class if you don't sit right on the front of the row. You'll need it to read her microscopic handwriting. The first day of class she passes out a list of her rules and regulations. These include: no talking in class, no being late, raise your hand if you have a question and wait to be called upon, do not interrupt her or anyone else while they are speaking, etc. Then she makes you sign a piece of paper stating that you have read and understood the rules and agree to them. I saw her reduce a big burly jock to tears one day when he made the mistake of interrupting her. Another time, a girl asked her a question and then made the mistake of looking at her friend beside her. Ouch! Everyone sitting within a 3 seat radius of this girl suffered 3rd degree burns when she got flamed! Expect a quiz almost every day over the homework assignments. She assigns problems in the book fo r homework, but when it comes to the tests...guess what? It's almost all over the problems she DIDN'T assign in the book! FUN FUN! With this woman, the terms "spinster", "old maid", and "witch" come to mind. This woman desperately needs a man! I went into her final exam needing to make a 30 to get a C for the course. When I saw the exam itself, I began wondering if I could even make a 30 on it! It was that bad. Do NOT take this woman if you have a choice! If not, you have my sympathy!" - Student - Grade: C

"Satan would be a better choice. Avoid this woman at ALL costs !!!!! There are a number of other great math teachers so choose one of them. If she is the only teacher available take it later or go to Angelina. If you choose not to heed this warning, you are entering at your own risk and my conscience is clear!" - Student - Grade: C

MTH 139

Burkett

"This man is a one-of-a-kind. He somehow manages to wear the same (looking) cloths all of the time. He is always coughing more than lecturing. He is a chronic smoker so if you go into his office beware the smell. His tests aren't too bad if you do all of the homework. Just go into his office a couple of times and get some brownie points and you'll be alright. But, I would still not recommend this teacher for anything." - Student - Grade: A

Proctor

"Hard but manageable. Had a B in class then failed the final. I came out with a D. Also the examinations come directly from the homework." - Student - Grade: D

MTH 143

Alston

"He's VERY unfair!! He told us not to memorize the formulas for the final exam because he would give them all to us the day of the exam. He gave the wrong formulas and didn't credit the class anything. He admitted his mistake to a student who approached him during the exam but failed to announce it to the class. We all failed miserably and had our letter grade drop a notch or two. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!" - Student - Grade: D

Feistel

"His class was eazzzzzzzzy! As long as you come to class and study your notes, because he tends to give quizzes. He makes it easy for you to understand your work." - Student - Grade: A

Gilespie

"SFA is so ashamed of this man that they won't even list his name in the class schedule. It's ALWAYS listed as Staff. If you pick a 143 class with Staff as the professor, be careful.....you could get Gilespie. If a fat, hariy man walks in....you're in trouble. I've never in my entire life had a professor like this. He doesn't even know what he's doing! He'd work a problem out on the board, discover he'd done it wrong, and they say "Oh, but you get the idea". He counts off if you don't erase completely and if you don't draw the axis of your graphs long enough. The man is an idiot. Be careful." - Student - Grade: F

"I thought Tim Gillespie was a great teacher. He is a bit eccentric, but that makes him even more interesting. This class does require work outside of class, but if you're willing to put the time into it, you'll do fine. My only complaint about Gillespie would be that we used a lot of paper because he wanted one problem per page, but I think we can live with that." - Student - Grade: B

Roy Joe Harris

"Great instructor! Makes the class as easy as it can get. Highly recommend." - Student - Grade: A

J. Shepherd

"She could be worse, but I sure wouldn't take her again. She always talks about her kids and how much cheaper things used to be and buying clothes. Even though I didn't like her, at least I can say that she is somewhat fair, you know what to expect and she gives credit on everything but the final. But..if you make a 89.99999999999999 it's still a B in her class." - Student - Grade: B

Sultenfuss

"This class gives you every opportunity to make an A. I spent the whole semester with a mid-D average. He strikes up some kind of deal with the class on how you can bring up your grade. He gave the option of the final exam grade being your final grade if it was higher than your actual average. I studied my butt off for three days and came out with an A. Take him if you like using beer in every example. All in all I think he isa good teacher and will help you out when you need it." - Student - Grade: A

MTH 144

Clark

"Nice old man. He explains it well. On his tests he uses wierd numbers that you are not used to. I spent a lot of time in the library getting help." - Student - Grade: D

Feistel

"Although I didn't do so well, I think Feistel is a great teacher. His tests are hard, but he gives daily quizzes to bring up your grade. The subject matter is hard, but Feistel helps in every way he can." - Student - Grade: C

Roy Joe Harris

"Explains everything fully. Always very willing to help all students." - Student - Grade: B

Sultenfus

"He is the hardest teacher I have had so far. He moves very quickly and grades very hard. If you make everyday visits to his office then you might be O.K. Do not take this class if you are not willing to spend 30 hours a week on homework. He is a very likeable person, but moves too quickly over material that the students do not understand." - Student - Grade: B

MTH 220

Cunningham

"Do NOT take this man!!!!! He is horrible!!! On the first day of class when he walked in the room half of the students dropped his section to take someone else. Only two A's were made in my section because they had copies of the test from past semesters. He tells you it would be a good idea to go ahead and look over some pages and problems on one day and then the very next day asks for the problems to be handed in for a grade. He does not do a very good job at all about explaining the material and expects you to know it by the end of class. He is not very approachable and makes you feel like an idiot if you ask for help." - Student - Grade: C

McCune

"The man is brilliant. He is almost too smart for his own good. I found understanding his lecture a little difficult and had to visit his office frequently. But, he will spend all the time in the world with you if it is needed. He supplies all supplemental handouts and you never have to take notes, unless you want to add a few things to his handouts. His exams are do-able, just make sure you know which formula to use when because there are several! Everything is open books, open notes, calculators ... even the final. I really liked him and the class, but be prepared to do the homework (which he don't take up) and study to understand the different formulas." - Student - Grade: A

"Awful man and awful class. He would wander off the subject frequently, and he never gave an ample review. The only thing that saved me was his open book and open note tests. I would never take him again." - Student - Grade: B

McWilliams

"This is a very easy class. He grades pretty fairly, and is very willing to help anyone that wants to apply themselves." - Student - Grade: B

"I've never been very good at math, but Dr. McWilliams got me interested in statistics and I actually enjoyed this course. Dr. McWilliams is the best teacher in any subject that I have ever had. He explains why things work, not just using formulas."- Student - Grade: C

"Initially, I didn't think he would be an instructor I would be able to learn from. However, he turned out to be one of my favorite instructors. His teaching style is colorful and informative. I wish I could take him for more than just math classes. His presentations are very enlightening and questions and discussions are welcome and encouraged. I learn best from discussion. I feel like I lucked out having him as my instructor." - Student - Grade: B

"He is quite possibly the world's biggest jack ass. He is completely rude and I would have taken the class from Satan if I could have." - Student - Grade: B

"Don't take this teacher for statistics. He is a complete jack-ass. If you are involved in sports or like them then he will hate you. We spent an entire class period arguing that sports players should not get scholarships for college. What a jerk. Obviously, he sucks at sports. He doesn't give curves and most people that aren't in there retaking his class make 40's and 50's on his tests. STAY AWAY!!" - Student - Grade: B

"Definately has his favorites and his least favorites, don't admit to participating in sports or you will become one of the latter. He thinks he is God and discusses school politics and the practices of Dan Angel to no end. Obviously I didn't recieve anything from his class. Made me feel stupid when I asked questions." - Student - Grade: F

"I started out hating this man because he was such a smart-ass. But he really works with you if you are having a hard time. My test grades were really low, but because they were improving some, he really helps out. By the end of the semester I was doing a lot better and was happy with my grade. Just don't talk about athletic scholarships!" - Student - Grade: C

Miller

"He explains things to the point where you just want to scream "Ok, ok, I understand!" He is VERY knowledgable about what he teaches and presents it very well. The tests are fair but thorough. He looks at how you worked the problems and not just at your answer. I would recommend him to anyone. He's definitely the best." - Student - Grade: B

"Save your time and money, DON'T Take his class. You will struggle like hell with his test. His lectures are very easy and they give you the wrong perception of his class. He is very kind and spiritual but he will fail your ass!" - Student - Grade: F

"I dropped this course once and failed it once before a friend of mine recommended Dr. Miller to me. He was a wonderful teacher. I couldn't even believe that I was taking the same course. Dr. Miller explains things in a way that you can actually understand. His tests are wonderful because you get credit for what you do even if you don't get the answer 100% right. Don't think that you'll get through this class without studying, because you won't. I took it during the summer which I recommend if you don't mind a fast pace. Everything stays fresh on your mind and it's over quickly. You have to do the homework and study hard for the tests, but it's definitely do-able. Dr. Miller is also easy to talk to and helpful. He's actually interested in the student's lives and wants to help in any way possible. I will be recommending him to anyone that asks." - Student - Grade: B

MTH 264

McWilliams

"Watch out you outgoing, talkative ones! This guy told me twice that I was getting on his bad side because I was answering my neighbor's question during his lecture when he was talking to another student. I get along with almost everybody, but this guy and I clashed because, I feel, he wanted to be the center of the universe. After I dropped I was told that he took a class period just to find out what everyone in the class wants to do with their life. He would have gotten mad at me for even hinting at beginning a conversation like that, and yet, if he wants it to happen then it's all good. Anyway, I feel that he is very domineering and can make one feel inadequate and intimidated. Speaking for him, though, he says that he is willing to help anyone with anything as long as they are willing to put forth effort. But, if you don't even know where to begin in a problem and you have spent five days trying to figure it out and then you go to him for help with no work ! on paper, he will turn you away and you will be on his bad side!!! Good luck, non-math majors!" - Student - Grade: DROPPED
