Edwards
"Dr. Edwards is a good professor. He's easy going and relatively easy with his work load, and grading. He doesn't give any tests only assignments for papers. He's a nice guy and i would recommend him to anyone. If you want an easy way out of first semester freshman English - he's your man." - Student - Grade: A
Gabrial
"Very easy. You do almost no work, and the work you do do is simple" - Student - Grade: A
House
"Take this lady. Best English instructor at SFA, hands down!!!!" - Student - Grade: A

ENG 132
Bierschenk
"This class is so easy. All you do is write papers, and she is a very fair grader. Only complaint is that all the books you read are feminist." - Student - Grade: A
Busby
"Busby is easy, very understanding of what college students have to go through. She is young probably 27-28 so she is almost like a peer instead of a prof. I highly recomend her class if you are busy with alot of hours. You can miss class atleast once a week and still get an A." - Student - Grade: A
Devine
"You have to read a lot in her class, but it is easy. She likes it when you talk about the story you just read." - Student - Grade: B
Luebke
"I should have tested out of Freshman ENG. Both classes I've had are way too easy for college level. At least in this class (IWP), I improved my research skills. I'm sorry that SFA is getting rid of the one thing that's practical about Freshman ENG: the IWP course. SFA will be losing Ms. Luebke and many other good teachers because of that." - Student - Grade: A
M.E. Pierce
"She is a fair teacher that trys to prepare you for the 'real world'. Her essay assignments are normally shorter than most other teachers assignments because she is trying to prepare you for the types of papers you will be writing after graduation--business letters, resumes, etc. She helps you to become a better writer." - Student - Grade: B
"Mrs. Pierce is a very enthusiastic, and fun teacher. I must say that I highly enjoyed her class. Although, when it came to grades, it was very difficult to earn an A or even a B. She does indeed make you a better writer, but does not give you a better GPA. I would reccomend her class if you are a hard worker, ottherwise, stay away." - Student - Grade: A
"I loved this class! She was always very enthusiastic about the class and always came into class in a great mood. She always stayed after class to answer questions and tried to help everyone. She was a fair grader and even had a policy about turning in papers late that seemed to help people out who were too busy to work on the papers assigned. I would recommend her to everyone!" - Student - Grade: A
Russell
"She is a very hard teacher....If she does not like you then you are doomed. Everyday I walked in she would ask me "are you sure you are well enough to be here". She also grades really hard I have had hard teachers before and managed a B but she is really hard. I would never again take. She is never there for help either." - Student - Grade: D
Wright
"Ms. Wright is a great teacher of English. She's not too hard, not to easy, and she's always willing to help you out. Most of your grades are taken from various small to medium sized papers. There's a paper due each week, but it's only a page of your personal opinion over what you've been going over in class. I'd take her again in an instant!" - Student - Grade: B

ENG 133
Whitescarver
"Neat class. You go to class. He reads to you a couple of stories to show you what he wants the quality of your paper to be like, and then he reminds you of when your paper is due. There is about a one and a half to two page paper due per week. Don't wait till the last minute to read the book that you will do your thesis on." - Student - Grade: B

ENG 215
Schultz
"This class was certainly interesting. If professor Schultz's clothes weren't making me laugh, his odd side stories were. The tests were kinda hard, but not unbareable. He's very passionate about what he does...so he expects you to be too. And if you can't think of "10 Ways of Looking At A Blackbird", don't take him. But if you've got half a brain, you should do fine in his class." - Student - Grade: B
Shea
"She's absoltely wonderful. She goes at a pace the class wants to go. She's completely fair and honest with you. Attendence is not critical to her. If you don't want to be there, she doesn't want you to be there. I suggest you do go to class due to the quizes that she'll give. If you don't read the material you won't do well on the quizes. But, they are very fair, as she is. Her tests aren't bad. They start off simple, but get a little more difficult as the semester progresses. You read fun stuff in her class. She's very open minded, and she's not afraid to teach liberally. She's just great." - Student - Grade: A

ENG 221
Morman
"Very nice lady. Class was pretty easy just read the stuff she tells you to. Have to write one of two papers, but they are real easy. Get to watch movies. She tells you when she thinks something was boring, and will tell you to not read it. (she reads the stuff after she assignes it) Loved her class, very easy." - Student - Grade: A
Stapleton
"This class is fun. If you're extremely sensitive to off-color humor, though, be careful. Dr. S. is full of it. But the class is interesting. A side note to females, he's a little, uh. . .flirty. Nothing serious, but if it would make you uncomfortable, try another instructor. If you pay attention, don't try his patience, and show a little interest in the subject, you'll do great." - Student - Grade: A
"If you are a male then get the hell out of this class. he is VERY partial to females. I finished the class with 237 out of 300 points. the cutoff for a B was 240. I am a bio major, chem minor and he didn't bump me. maybe if i had a body and a higher voice he would have. I hope he has changed since then but probably not. I know if english majors or minors take science classes they usually get bumped if their grade is a 79, to a "B". oh well life goes on. . ." - Student - Grade: C
"Maybe the best class I've taken at SFA, despite the fact that I'm not much on poetry, and I did not like most of the material we read. Tests are easy if you study, and he is generous on the essays (the one difficult part). He likes to joke around, but he levels it off and appologizes if the class is not into it. Its one of the few classes I've had here that's really college level." - Student - Grade: B
"Dr. Stapleton is the best professor I ever had. He is concerned about his students and knows everyone's name. He is open to any thoughts on the materials read in class. He is a very intellectual man and yet he is fun too." - Student - Grade: B

"He is okay, if you like taking essay exams and fill in the blanketquestions. " - Student - Grade: Dropped
Dawson
"Don't take this course, especially if you predict you will have a boarder-line grade because he WILL NOT round up. I earned a 79.5 exactly in his course and he reported a "C" stating that "most of your grades fall into the 'C' catagory, so I see no reason why I should give you the 'B'. " - Student - Grade: C
Leonard Cheever
"This class is a death wish. A DEATH WISH. Besides the high schoolish ways of doing a makeup quiz every time and tons of extra credit, the only thing you learn how to improve on is your shut eye. Avoid this instructor at all odds! " - Student - Grade: B
"I managed to get an A in this class, but I'm not sure how. The subject material is extremely boring and could put the most hardened insomniac to sleep. Most of the authors covered in this course needed to seriously get a life! It doesn't help that the teacher reads this stuff in a droning monotone. He's very knowledgeable about the material, but has about as much enthusiasm for it as the students. If you take good notes and absorb the important parts of the lecture, you shouldn't have much trouble. Be warned though, this class is a definite 'sleep-a-thon!'" - Student - Grade: A

"Participate in class. Easy quizzes, moderate tests but participation is 10% of your grade, more if your on her side! Highly reccomend." - Student - Grade: A
Whitescarver
"A very straightforward class with around 6 readings and tests over each. All readings were discussed in class thorougly and there were no suprises on the tests." - Student - Grade: A

ENG 235
Dawson
"This course can be interesting, but Dr. Dawson's personality is extremely abrasive personality--you either like him or you don't. He will pick out a few people in class and gear his discussions toward them. That's not always a good thing for the person to whom the discussion is geared." - Student - Grade: B
"We wrote a LOT of papers in this class, and read some interesting (not to mention OBSCURE)literature. Overall, he's a very fair teacher...a little eccentric, and weird, but fair. Just don't expect him to remember your name once the semester is over. Overall, I would recommend this class to anyone!" - Student - Grade: A
"Dr. Dawson is great. The class is hard but well worth it if you can get in. There are a lot of papers to write but it gives you great practice for your other classes. He grades very fairly and loves it when people speak up in class. If you can get in this class you are obviously intelligent and he likes to hear your thoughts." - Student - Grade: B
"Dawson is a great professor in my opinion. He was fair, and the class was interesting. The only problem were that Dawson has no taste in Science Fiction (we read Riddley Walker, Slaughterhous 5 and The Centaur <--bad bad). But other than that I enjoyed the course. Oh yea..and Dawson seems to like creativity in assignments. " - Student - Grade: A

"Take this class if you are a feminist and / or a marxist. She gears everything toward that interpretation. She even joked about making Marxists out of all of her students." - Student - Grade: B
Stapleton
"Writing about Literature. Don't be fooled by the course number, upper-level work is required. Dr. Stapleton definitely presents a challenge and expects students to rise to meet it. Reading, writing intensive. One of the best classes I've taken at SFA, largely because Dr. Stapleton is an exceptional teacher — witty, cultured, approachable and extremely well-dressed. Slackers, B.S.ers need not apply. I get the feeling they insult his intelligence. Dr. S knows what he teaches backward, forward and inside-out." - Student - Grade: A
"Writing about Lit. One thing I forgot, I have to disagree with the student who said Dr. S was uh. . . flirty. I see no reason why chics shouldn't take his class, and I am one. He's very professional, to be sure." - Student - Grade: A

Cheever
"Science Fiction--I really enjoyed this class. The material ranged from good to bad to worse, and it was definitely a learning esxperience. I never thought there was SO MUCH bad literature! It's very easy however, and if you have half a brain and pay attention, you'll do great, even if you're not caught up in the reading, which there is a great deal of." - Student - Grade: A
Whitescarver
"Humor & Satire: Fanatastic class!! The literature is great. Dr. Whitescarver chooses mostly good stuff to read--not too obscure, but nothing too carrot-brained either. TThe only piece I totally despised was "CivilWarLand In Bad Decline." It was awful! But all in all, the class and the prof are absolutely spectacular." - Student - Grade: B

ENG 360
Howard
"This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken here at SFA. There's a LOT of reading and the grades come from 4 major, all essay tests that are pretty difficult, and from surprise quizzes that are also really detailed. The quizzes are 20% of the class grade and they only have 4 questions so if you miss one its over. The class can be kind of intimidating, but he has a sense of humor and what you learn in there is really very interesting. It took until halfway into the semester for me to start liking the class. Go ahead and take it, but be ready to study your butt off." - Student - Grade: A

ENG 365
Carr
"Very hilarious teacher but has the tendency to ignore you if she doesn't agree with your view on something. Don't take this class if you want to enjoy movies, this makes you actually dissect them. Almost all viewed are Black and White, but for the most part, entertaining. Tests are easy but read the chapters." - Student - Grade: A
"GREAT class! The films are interesting, but the book "Turn of the Screw" is kinda goofy and very boring. Then you watch the movie it's based on, which she adores but everyone else hates--but this makes for a fun discussion. She likes to argue with you for a bit and you should NEVER give her a reason to pick on you. But she's a sweet, intelligent, flexible woman who will help you if you need it." - Student - Grade: B
Martin
"This was a really fun class, and Dr. Martin is a great teacher, but she focuses way too much on African American literature and racism. We wrote an OPINION paper on "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry," and when I got mine back, she had written that I seemed racist. Other than the whole African American issue, the class was alright." - Student - Grade: A

ENG 385
Martin
"If Dr. Martin hadn't put such a huge emphasis on African American literature, this class would have been an excellent introductory course to studying children's lit. She could have covered more genres and focused less on minority persecution. She's an excellent teacher, though. If you're interested in African American literature I would highly recommend her as an instructor" - Student - Grade: B
"Dr. Martin exposes her students to a wide range of literature. In her class we read novels dealing with many issues, such as race, sexual abuse, homosexuality, etc. Many of the books we read were controversial, some were even banned from some public school systems. However, I feel Dr. Martin was a great facilitator and kept things moving along when the discusson became too heated. My horizons were broadened, as will anyone else's who decides to take this course." - Student - Grade: B
Duncan
"If you don't like to read, DON'T take this class! We read a novel every week along with textbook chapters. I really liked the novels we read, so that was a plus, but her tests were really difficult, and she is a tough grader. There is a quiz over every novel, four papers, and three exams. Don't bother studying for the final, because you won't recognize anything on it anyway. I read every book for this class, and I still didn't know what she was talking about. She took an obscure quote from a minor character and expected us to know which book it came from and the importance of it. If you read everything and write well, you can make it in this class. Just know what you are getting into, and read everything." - Student - Grade: B
"I personally thought her tests were very difficult. The books we read we read were great, I just wish she could have included other quality literature material. The class lectures were dull, and I often found myself fighting to stay awake." - Student - Grade: C
