Hutchison

"I hated computers until I took this class. She is so easy to understand, and everything you do in class and with the books is relevant to the tests. The tests are easy if you study, and the daily quizzes are very easy if you read the night before. Just come to class every day, study for the tests, and it won't be that hard to get an A. She's funny and she's really cool" - Student - Grade: A

"She is a great teacher. She is available for more than just her office hours. She knows you aren't a CSC major and doesn't treat you like one. I would recommend her to anyone for any class. She gives lots of bonus questions! Good attendance is a MUST!!! Her daily quizes are not hard but it is her way of keeping track of atendance which is a crucial part of your grade. If you know nothing about computers, she still gives you a chance to make an "A" and it is even possible to make above 100 in the class(or 100 even if you miss an assignment)" - Student - Grade: A

Leslie

"This woman is an idiot. She will babble about crap while reviewing for a test and when its time to go, she says "Wait we still need to review." She wastes your time and keeps you late and then expects you to have computer knowledge flowing from your butt!!!" - Student - Grade: Dropped

Wood

"Regular homework assignments that aren't that bad. Multiple choice tests. He knows the material he teaches very well ." - Student - Grade: C

"if you like being totally lost all semster, listening to lectures that have nothing to do with the tests, listening to him tell you stuff he assumes you already know, having 2 hour homework explained to you in 30 seconds and staying until the very last second of class, then you would enjoy dr. wood." - Student - Grade: Dropped

"Would not recommend him to anyone, especially if they don't already have a working knowledge of computers. His assistant was a LOT more helpful than he was. Tests are multiple choice but are hard. If you ask him questions in class, he has a tendency to make you feel stupid. A Computer Science major should not have a problem in here." - Student - Grade: C

Hutchison

"She's a good teacher and expects you to do the work. If you go to her for help, rather than tell you what to do...she'll point you in the direction you need to be going. This is actually better for you than her just fixing your code for you. I enjoyed her class a lot. She is NOT shy about doling out the homework and programming assignments though. Get ready to work. Also, she gave almost daily 1 or 2 question quizzes right at the start of every class. If she told you to read something before next class, you better do it or get caught with your pants down. She gives bonus questions on tests and homework, but unfortunately they're always brain-twisters. Good luck in solving them!" - Student - Grade: A

Leslie

"I knew on the first day of class that this woman was no good. She gets annoyed if you ask for help and her lectures have NOTHING to do with what you're learning in class. She doesn't even know how to use Windows 95 and she's trying to teach me Computer Science?! Whatever!" - Student - Grade: C

Strader

"First of all, I would like to thank Dr. Strader for turning me off from a computer science major. He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. He was too smart for his own good, and way too smart for an introductory class. The only reason that I give him a D rather than an F is that he actually gave me some helpful advice one day in his office. - Student - Grade: D

Varnell

"I only had my high school knowledge of Pascal, so it was hard to learn Java language. Varnell is available for more than just his office hours. When you ask for help in person or over e-mail, he'll help you understand what is wrong instead of just fixing it for you. He admits when he is wrong in class: one time he spent half the class trying to convince us of something we all thought was wrong and he kept saying it was right, then he saw he was wrong and gave all the persons attending that day an "A" quiz grade for his messing up!" - Student - Grade: A

"If you are a CSC major start with Varnell! He not only helps you throughout the year with this class but will continue to help you when you hit the teachers who wouldn't dream of explaining something to you. He talks English not PDL (Program Design Language) like the others." - Student - Grade: B

CSC 121

Evans

"This teacher apperently knows his computers but does not know anything about teaching. Has a tendancy to talk down to students and very rarely speaks of anything relevent to the course. Lectures consist of how and what he has on his home computer. not very helpful when asked questions. Very, very unprofessional!" - Student - Grade: B

"Dr.Evans is possibly the worst instructor I have ever seen in my life. He is never prepared when class begins. He rambles on when asked questions but never answers them. I have tried several times to contact him during office but just no luck. If you could have anyone worse than this you shouldn't waste your time or money. Overall grade for him a big fat 0 ! a child culd teach this course better than he." - Student - Grade: B

CSC 201

Anne Hutchison

"Pretty cool teacher. Easy class; do work as soon as it is assigned that way you don't stress out. Easy daily quizzes, and about three exams. Easy A." - Student - Grade: A

CSC 202

Jarrell C. Grout

"I'd like to thank Dr. Grout for scaring me away from Computer Science. He slank in the first day and began blabbing about absolutely nothing. Nothing at all. He says one thing, then grades another. He is far too strict about what the output of your programs looks like. He hands out sooo many pages of crap that you have to carry around a second bag just to hold them all. Did I mention he's rude? Thanks to his wonderful class, I changed my major mid-semster. Thanks Dr. Grout!!" - Student - Grade: Withdrawn

"Sucks.....Sucks.....Sucks..Sucks.....Sucks........Sucks....." - Student - Grade: C

"This teacher is the most horrible teacher I have ever had. He also made me decide to change my major from computer science to something else. His grading is far too strict because he worries too much about how you document the program instead of how well the program runs. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy." - Student - Grade: D

"I've never been so confused. He explains very little, and if you ask a question he'll cut you to the bone. First teacher I was ever afraid of. Do whatever it takes to get someone else." - Student - Grade: C

"If you can handle the well "yes but no" answers to questions then this is the person for you. If you're not confused before you take this man you're sure to be when you finish. Ask a question in class -- be prepared to be put lower than dirt and NOT get a straight answer. This is if he "likes" you. For the most part he seems to know the subject but has a hard time conveying the message understandably. One thing is guaranteed though, what you learn in this class you will have definitely learned it and will never forget it. Picky? YES! Your own personality and stress levels will have a lot to do with this class. I have mostly bad things to say about the instructor but you will learn something from him." - Student - Grade: C

"He's a "self made" man, and he'll tell you too! Several times even. He's a stickler for following his "specifications" on his assignments. Even if you find a mistake in the specs, and correct it in your program to make it work right or look better, he'll count off for it. Sheesh! He comes across as condescending, and makes students fear asking questions in class. If you want to get on his good side, make A's. No kidding, that's it. To keep off his REALLY BAD side, do not point out his mistakes on the board or in his code. Do not question anything he says, even if you know he's wrong. And lastly, do NOT come to class late! This is his worst pet peeve! You will get a literal black mark by your name for every time you're late to class. I don't think he's really a bad person, but he rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Also, he gets distracted with his personal projects and is not always available. He'll assign reading material, but won't go ! over all of it in class. He'll just expect you to know it. NOT good! Would I take him again for anything else? Yeah, probably. The old saying about "the evil that you know is better than the evil that you don't know" comes to mind." - Student - Grade: A

"He is a nice enough person, "full of himself" more concerned with committees and accrediation than in teaching. He is a very confusing teacher, just read the book and learn from it, you will do fine." - Student - Grade: B

Strader

"They don't call him "Darth Strader" for nothing. If you're serious about learning not only the language but the concordant thought processes, take as many CS classes from him as you can. He's smart, oh so smart, and is so without (generally) being condescending. One wonders if he does ANYTHING other than computers, though. A fellow classmate catagorized him as an "idiot savant." I'd say that's accurate. Oh, yes, never be late with an assignment. He won't take it. At all. No, don't ask. Period. Expect to make 50's and 60's on his tests as well...good news, though, he curves the hell out of them. If you want to freak him out, start speaking in Russian about amateur radio in his class. If you want to get under his skin, make fun of him being a left handed Aggie. :) ." - Student - Grade: C

Wood

"He's the chairman of the Computer Science Department, so don't expect an easy time of it. He has a tough reputation, but he's really a very nice man. He goes over everything you need to know in this class. If you learn it from him, you'll remember it for a long time! His tests ARE hard, and test 3 is usually the killer. When I took him, he assigned us a huge program right at the beginning of the semester that he wanted completed by the end of the semester. Keep in mind that you're also supposed to be working on the weekly programs at the same time. Yeah...right! When it gets down to the last few programs, they're usually just modifications of the previous program. If you don't do the first one or get it working right, you're screwed. And that's putting it kindly! If you DO get brave enough to take him, make sure it's your last class of the day because he will ALWAYS run you AT LEAST 5 minutes past the bell, maybe longer. He waits until about a! minute before the bell rings and then says "Now...about your next programming assignment!" Then it takes him 5 or 10 minutes to explain it, making you late for your next class. If you take him first and then have to take it over, everyone else will seem easy by comparison." - Student - Grade: C

CSC 211

Pickard

"Never comes to class prepared, very "scatter-brained" If this doesn't alarm you, you'll be fine. He's a nice person. This is a tough class from anyone and his tests are killers." - Student - Grade: B

CSC 331

Jarrell C. Grout

"ANAL, ANAL, ANAL Gets lost in the details of the problems he assigns and docks of points on your assignment because of it. Don't ask questions, he usually doesn't know the answer and talks about something unrelated until you forget what you even asked. If you are thinking of changing your major because you have Grout, DON'T. All CSC intructors are not as bad as he is." - Student - Grade: A
