2 Brookshire Royal 12 - 2 166.11 State runner-up, by two points. Quietly stormed through South Texas and didn't get statewide respect until beating Mart in the semifinals. Rated No. 4 in D-II preseason. Held No. 1 overall spot, Weeks 3-16.

3 Mart 13 - 1 164.10 State semifinalst. A team that seemingly had it all, but just had a little bit less than Royal. D-II's No. 5-rated team in preseason.

4 Boyd 11 - 2 159.73 Region II finalist in the toughest region of the division. Tragedy hit the team three times during the season, including the final day against Pewitt. Coach J.G. Cartwright said it showed life was more important than football. Rated 16th in preseason.

5 Howe 10 - 2 154.32 Downgraded a bit for a weak district, but upset Pilot Point in bi-district and reached area playoffs. Rated No. 13 in preseason.

6 Holliday 10 - 1 154.20 Tabbed as a darkhorse before the season, the Eagles quickly regrouped from offensive graduation losses. But then they were quickly ousted from the playoffs by Boyd. Rated No. 7 in preseason.

7 Schulenburg 7 - 4 153.09 The Shorthorns had their Super 'S' logo taken away by the Superman people, and they wound up in D-I when we felt they would go D-II. Lost to Royal in bi-district. Rated No. 1 in the overall preseason poll.

8 Comfort 12 - 1 152.75 A banner season for a program looking to make a statewide name for itself. Reached Region IV semifinals.

9 Canadian 12 - 2 152.38 Reached state semifinals before getting 55-14 whipping from Paul Pewitt. Rated No. 17 in preseason poll.

10 Pilot Point Selz 9 - 1 150.87 Met its biggest challenge of the regular season, defeating eventual D-II state champ Celina at home. Shocking loss to Howe in bi-district. Rated No. 9 in preseason.

11 Hughes Springs 12 - 1 144.65 Coming out of North East Texas, didn't get much attention in trip to regional semifinals. Rated No. 18 in preseason.

12 Rosebud-Lott 6 - 5 143.25 Played a solid schedule and had some regular season struggles. Lost 21-7 to Mart in Region III bi-district. Rated No. 10 in preseason.

13 Troy 10 - 2 143.03 Lost to Brookshire Royal in Region IV semifinals. Rated No. 14 in preseason.

14 Rio Vista 8 - 3 138.60 Just another doormat a few years ago until RB Jerad Doty arrived. Lost a heart-breaker to Scurry-Rosser in bi-district, a week before getting scorched by Pewitt.

15 Coleman 6 - 5 138.30 Lost to Troy in bi-district.

16 Winnie East Chambers 10 - 2 136.84 A rebuilding year turned out to be perfect until getting blasted by Mart in the area round.

17 Malakoff 9 - 3 135.69 Lost to Hughes Springs in area playoffs. Rated No. 12 in preseason.

18 Grapeland 9 - 1 134.38 The class of a usual 20-2A powerhouse district. The district was down this year and the Grapes turned sour in bi-district with a one-point loss to Malakoff.

19 Sonora 10 - 3 133.65 A drop from Class 3A helped bring back a sparkling record. Reached regional finals before losing to Canadian. Rated No. 15 in D-II preseason poll.
