Dear mother and father,
I will now write you all a few lines for the first time to let you all know how we are getting along. We are all well and getting along fine on beef and bread. That is all we can get in this poor place. When we were in Texas we could get any thing to eat that we wanted and now we can not get any thin hadily. Everybody down there talks about Texas bing a porr state but they dont know what a poor place is yet if they coulds see this state they would say that Texas is a thousan times better off than this place. The health of our batalion is getting some better but we have a good many in our comapny. Reinwaters is very sick and so is Mr Powdrill but they are both some better today. I have not much to say now when you write to me maby I will have something more to write you. I dont like such a place as this you all know more news than i can tell you give my love to all I have nothing more to say at this time. Write to all of is I am wee and fat as a care your tru son forever
