What ever you choose to call it, it is the same thing.
I like to refer to this supreme entity, simply as "Great Spirit".
In my humble opinion the religions of the world are all worshipping this same "Spirit".
Like a big spoked wheel, with a central hub, where as the hub is "Spirit",
and the spokes are the different religions.
(i.e. Paganism, Buddism,Christianity,ect.)
To break it down into the Wiccan beliefs, lets take it a little further.
The main misconception of Pagan religions (from outsiders) is that we worship
the "Christian's Devil". NOT SO. We worship and follow "Spirit".
We do not manipulate the forces of "Spirit" or Nature to meet our needs
and wants. We attune ourselves WITH nature so we can be in harmony with it.
Another misconception, especially among the newer Wiccans/Pagans,
is that we worship so many different Gods/Goddesses.
To break it down into an easier way of thinking, try to imagine this :
Spirit, ( in the Wiccan/Pagan path ) is like a giant tree.
It has many branches and leaves. Each of which are still part of the whole tree.
They are all aspects of that same tree.
So are the different Gods and Goddesses different aspects of "Spirit".
The Gods represent the Male aspects of Spirit.
And the Goddesses represent the Female aspects of Spirit.
Equally powerful, to there counterparts, for balance.
They all have different functions. So if you call upon one
God/Goddess for a specific purpose,
you are really tapping into that one aspect of the whole "Spirit".
I hope that this has not confused you in any way.
This was one of the first questions I had when I first started studying Wicca.
When you give something a name, it receives power from you , just like any
thoughtform. That is why I cannot believe that the Christians gave their
Negative/Evil counterpart a name. That is why we do not believe in
"their devil". I am not saying that there is not evil forces out there. Just that we
do not call upon them for that would give them power.
Everything is balanced in the universe.
Where there is light there must be dark, Male, Female,up, down.
You get the picture.
And they are all aspects of the same tree, all aspects of "Spirit".
