1860 census Columbia Co., AR.  (p 236)  Harrison Twp.  William Banks, WM 24, farmer, personal estate $300, b. MS.  Living w/him: wife Martha. Also present: 55-year-old Martha Murphy, b. LA.

1860 census Phillips Co., AR.  (p 412) Llanquille Twp.  W. A. Banks, WM 23, wood choper (sic), b. KY.  Living in household of M. Rily,

On 19 Jun 1862, Pvt. William Banks enrolled in Co. G, 33rd Arkansas Infantry in Columbia Co., AR.  The 1862 records of this company seem to be missing.  The 1863 entries are not much better, but the unit was in a camp near Little Rock, AR in early 1863.  In early Jul 1863, they marched to the Boeuf River, then later in that month to Pine Bluff, AR.  In Aug they returned to Little Rock, AR.  William is listed as taking a furlough in Apr 1863 and detached as a guard effective 6 Jul 1863.  In early Jan 1864, the company was at Camp Sumter.
