Monserrat Video
Finally, the Music for Monserratt
concert has been released on VHS and Laser Disc. The concert, which was held
last September in the Royal Albert Hall, London.
The concert was put on to benefit the volcano ravaged island of Monserrat,
which has been a recording site for many, many acts (including
Dire Straits). Some of the brightest stars in rock came out to lend a
helping hand. Performing in the show were Phil Collins, Paul McCartney,
Elton John, Sting, Eric Clapton, Arrow, Jimmy Buffet(not on the video,
hmmm), and of course, Mark Knopfler.
The video includes an all star version of "Money For Nothing." Also, a
rather stirring symphonic (with guitar) version of "Brothers in Arms."
I'm also told that Knopfler performed "Going Home" (theme from Local Hero),
however, it is not on the video.
Also included with the video is a CD single that includes "Take me Home"
(Collins), "Brothers in Arms" (Knopfler), and "Hey Jude" (McCartney).
Mark's a dad...again.
Well, the Sultan of Swing is
once again just called "Dad." His wife Kitty gave birth to Isabella on
Saturday, 17.01.98, at 23:00 GMT. They're spending time together as a family
before Mark gets back to work on his solo material. There's always something...
Congratulations Mark!!!
Second solo album
Mark Knopfler and backing band recently came together to
record the second half of his SECOND solo album. Sources tell us that the album
is expected to be released possibly as soon as spring this year! Others say that
it will be summer before the album surfaces. The first solo album, "Golden Heart"
remains in stores. And, as most will recall featured performances by Vince Gill,
Paul Franklin, The Chieftans, Hargus "Pig" Robbins, and cajun greats Sonny
Landreth and Michael Doucet. Along with Dire Straits veterans, Guy Fletcher
and Danny Cummings. The album also featured the single, "Darling Pretty,"
heard on the "Twister" soundtrack.
