ELIMINATED EPISODE THREE

MASON

NIKKI
LAFFY

DAVE
Nikki: "It is hard for me not to think i am in the game. So i even went and checked the challenge page as though i was playing. I saw the challenges they look interesting, can be quite hard. I want to help in some way if i can at all. i have talked to some of the other team's players throughout the course of the show. I am pretty sure they have a greater kitty than ours, don't hold me to that, but i am quietly confident that they are in the $100,000s. Either that or they have lost that amount. Hugs Nikki."

Dave: "Dave stares Tom in the eyes. NOT HAPPY TOM."

Both Nikki and Dave gave it there all, but unfortunately they didn't know enough information about their team's mole.  So who did they suspect?

SUSPECTED EPISODE THREE

MASON

DAMON
LAFFY

TOM
Damon: "No problem Nikki :) It's probably my own fault, although I don't know what I did suspicious. In the Orient Express challenge, I told you I was a bodyguard, 'cause I didn't want anyone to find out I was the killer, 'cause then I wouldn't get a free pass probably. And I also screwed up telling Bill and Nick that Lisa held the money. I didn't read Lisa's message properly enough :( My most suspicious thing is probably that I've been hiding my real identity. My name's not Damon, but Robbie. My other YahooID is robbieazertyui. I already was the mole in first series, so I thought it wouldn't be fun for the others (nor for me) that it would still be fun if there was someone in the game you absolutely couldn't suspect. I didn't know about the new rule by then. Looking back, I'd better joined as robbieazertyui :) Sorry for the whole fake identity thing, I hope you'll understand though. Bye bye. Damon aka Robbie"
Nick responds: "I never ever guessed Robbie!! hehehe Looks like that falling_rock is on your head now:)"

For the final challenges of the series, the teams will face three interconnecting challenges.  They are simply asked to divide themselves up into:

Katanna is the first to nominate himself.  He decides to be the person with no eagle eyes, although he is scared of what he has to do.  Cedric wants to buy a car from a car salesman, assigning no hands on to Gil.  Bill is surprised he is still in the game and doesn't want to put his hands on anything.  Since neither Lisa or Nick submitted their choices within 24 hours, Bill decides to assign Lisa to have no eagle eyes and Nick to be fooled by a car salesman.  Damon although eliminated announces that Lisa is sick in hospital and therefore couldn't choose what she wanted to be.

The team's are given the challenges.  They discover how the three challenges are interconnected.  If one has been sabotaged, they will negatively effect the other two challenges:

CHALLENGE ONE: WHO WANTS TO BE A 1/4 MILLIONAIRE!

MASON's observant team members: Bill & Nick
LAFFY's observant team members: Cedric & Gil

Each week the maximum prize pool has been $250,000.  This week, the team's performance in this challenge will set the maximum value for this week's prize pool.  So the better they perform, the more the challenges will be worth.  The two participants in this challenge will simply be asked a series of questions about The Mole Online.  They will be given 4 possible answers to each question.  For every correct question, the more this week's prize pool will be worth.  If the teams are unsure of answer they have two lifelines that can help them out:

As soon as one question is answered incorrectly, the challenge is over for the team.  The value of the week's prize pool is as follows.

1 correct answer
2 correct answers
3 correct answers
4 correct answers
5 correct answers
6 correct answers
7 correct answers
8 correct answers
$20,000
$40,000
$60,000
$90,000
$120,000
$160,000
$200,000
$250,000

30% of this prize pool is assigned to this challenge.

CHALLENGE TWO: QUICK AND EASY ARTWORK

MASON hands on team members: Lisa & Nick
LAFFY hands on team members: Cedric & Katanna

The team's performance in this challenge will determine the time limits for each challenge.  The amount of time it takes the team to complete the first part of the challenge will be the same amount of time that the team's challenge deadline will be shortened.  Eg, if the team's take 24 hours to complete part one, their new deadline for the week is 24 hours shorter.  Therefore the longer they take to complete the first part, the shorter time their whole team has for this week's challenges.

Teams will be sent a virtual art gallery.  Their task is to create a piece of modern art that will blend in with the gallery.  The second part of the challenge is that teams will be sent the opposing team's gallery with the opponents artwork mixed in.

If the team can fool the opposition and get them to think one of the other works is their team created artwork, the team win 15% of the prize pool.  Also, if the team is clever enough to pick the opponents artwork from the set, another 15% of the prize pool will be won.

CHALLENGE THREE: LOOKING AT THE FACTS

MASON players who can't be fooled easily: Bill & Lisa
LAFFY players who can't be fooled easily: Gil & Katanna

In this challenge, the team's must interrogate the other team to get two very important pieces of information:

Who is their Mole?
How much was in their kitty at the end of Episode Three?

To gain this information, the teams must send their opposition questions and a response must occur within 24 hours.  The twist for the challenge is that one of the pair MUST tell the truth at least 2/3 of the time, and the other of the pair MUST lie at least 2/3 of the time.  The second twist is that there are 12 words that cannot be used in the interrogation questions.  If they are used, the opposition does not have to answer.  The forbidden words are: Mole, Episode, Kitty, Who, Money, Win, Lose, Sabotage, Team, Player, Accuse and Sabotage.

The teams may make only one guess about the two pieces of information.  For each piece of information that is correct, 20% of the prize pool will be awarded to the team and the other challenges will be reduced by a 'choice'.  This meaning if one piece of information is obtained, then the number of choices in the first two challenges will be reduced from 4 to 3.  If both pieces of information are obtained, the choices will be reduced from 4 to 2.

Now that the team's have received their final challenges, they are told the final twist of the game: The Mobius Strip.  The team's must decide whether or not they would like to exchange what they have earnt for the kitty this week, with the other team.  If both teams agree for the exchange to take place, or not to take place, nothing will happen.  But if one team wants to exchange what they have earnt with the other team, but the other team doesn't want to, the exchange will take place.  They have the whole week to think about this game twisting decision.

The games begin.  (Because the order of events are important, the three challenges are all mixed together in the order they occurred)

The first millionaire question is posted.

Q1. What is your team's name? (For $20,000)
A: Alpha  B: Beta  C: Mason  D: Laffy.

Gil answers it correctly, confidently saying that the answer is D. Laffy.  The prize pool is set to $20,000.  Cedric congratulates him.  Gil decides that he will be the person in "Looking at the facts" that will tell more truths, assigning Katanna to tell more lies.  Gil gets straight into interrogating and asks Bill and Lisa a series of questions.  Gil doesn't want Laffy to exchange in the Mobius Strip.

Katanna completes his team's artwork in 14 hours.  So the team's deadline is reduced by 14 hours.

Bill answers the first millionaire question correctly, bumping the Mason's prize pool up to $20,000.  He continues straight away with the second question.

Q2. How many of the starting eight in your team were from Australia? (For $40,000)
A: 1  B: 2  C: 3  D: 4

Bill answers D: 4 and he is correct.  Cedric answers almost simultaneously with the same answer.  Both team's prize pools are raised.

Some of his team mates are worried about Cedric being uncontactable.  Cedric announces that his Yahoo! IM isn't working properly and he is not hiding from the group.  Nick tells Lisa that he will be completing the artworks, not realising she is currently in hospital.  He completes the artwork successfully and asks for Lisa's approval.  Nick also answers question two of Challenge One but doesn't realise that Bill has already answered correctly and has moved on to question three.  Lisa approves of Nick's artwork via Steve her husband (Series II winner).  The artwork is submitted within 37 hours.  The deadline for all the Mason challenges is now 37 hours shorter than the assigned deadline.

Nick and Lisa are sent a gallery of artworks including the one completed by Katanna.  Lisa thinks it's the bottom right artwork.  She is incorrect.  Katanna actually completed the top left image so 15% of their challenge one prize pool has been awarded to Laffy.

Bill responds to Gil's questions.  He is the one lying 2/3 of the time and Lisa will be telling the truth 2/3 of the time.

Gil:  "What is the dollar amount your group has?"
Bill: "$125,000"
Gil:  "Which member, of the last 3 in your group, is the traitor?"
Bill: "Lisa"
Gil:  "When doing the questionnaire, which name did you put in the question before the confession cam section, last time?"
Bill: "Damon"
Bill then answers the third question in the millionaire challenge:

Q3. How old was the first eliminated contestant from your team? (For $60,000)
A: 15  B: 16  C: 19  D: 20

He answers B: 16.  Billy the first eliminated contestant on Mason was 16 years old so the Mason prize pool is raised another notch.  Bill gets straight into question four.

Q4. Who was Brian's partner in "Dude Where's My Team"? (For $90,000)
A: Nikki  B: Billy  C: Jon  D: Damon

He thinks the answer is C: Jon.  He is correct once again, and the Mason prize pool increases a little bit more.  Bill then interrogates his opponents with three clever questions.

Cedric and Katanna have been sent their art gallery which includes the Mason artwork in it.  They stumble between two of the artworks.

Gil answers the third question in the millionaire challenge.  He answers D: 20.  Sharna, the first eliminated contestant on Laffy was 20 years old so he is correct.  He also thinks he knows one of the vital pieces of information in "Looking at the Facts".  He thinks team Mason had $95,000 at the end of last episode.  He is correct and has earnt the team 20% of the challenge one earning.  Also in the other two challenges, the number of options are reduced from 4 to 3.  He then answers Bill's interrogation questions:

Bill: "Out of the total amount of cash available to have accrued, how much did you guys not receive?"
Gil:  "$615,000"
Bill: "What person do you expect to be the next one eliminated?"
Gil:  "Lisa"
Bill: "What city does the person you think the host chose as his agent come from?"
Gil:  "I don't know the city, I know the state, but not the city, we were not given that information."
Gil clarifies his answers to the host to avoid any penalties.  They are within limitations.  He then asks Bill and Lisa another set of questions.
Gil: "In the last 3, of your group (Mason), which person don't you trust the most? In your questionnaire, which person have you focused your answers on? Which person, do you think in your group, has the least opportunity of being the overall winner of this game?"
Nick attempts the next millionaire question:

Q5. In a previous series, who said in their confession cam: "The next day he mailed not to do 4 guesses"? (For $120,000)
A: Dave  B: Natalie  C: Robbie  D: Nick

Nick answers B: Natalie.  His answer is incorrect.  So the Mason team prize pool stands at $90,000 out of a possible $250,000.  Because 30% of the prize pool is automatically won in this challenge, $27,000 goes towards the Mason kitty.  The other $63,000 still needs to be won.

Gil answers the fourth question (NB. Question was sent before one choice was taken away):

Q4. Who was Sharna's partner in "Dude Where's My Team"? (For $90,000)
A: Tom  B: Dave  C: John  D: Troy

Gil thinks the answer is D: Troy.  He is correct and equals the Mason team prize pool.

Katanna also responds to Bill's interrogation questions.

He then announces that he will be leaving the game again for 24 hours.

Cedric attempts question five of the millionaire challenge.  He thinks it's the last answer they can fit in before the deadline so he simply guesses A: Dave because he's been in all the games.  He is also incorrect and the Laffy team prize pool sits at $90,000.  Gil is extremely angry at Cedric for guessing because he knows the host won't give a question where they would have to guess.  He finds that the answer C: Robbie was hidden in the Mole Files.  Cedric is disappointed with Gil's outburst and apologises for the mistake.  He then points out that he didn't get angry when he has made so many mistakes in the past.

Even though he is angry he thinks he has discovered that Nick is the mole for Mason.  Gil makes it clear once again that he does not want to exchange the weekly earning with Mason.  On the contrary, Bill thinks the opposite.  Because two team members from Laffy responded with them losing only $615,000, he thinks that Laffy is doing better and wants to make the mobius strip switch.  He decides to make the exchange.  Because one team wanted the switch and the other team didn't, the switch of team kitty's will occur.  This means whatever Mason earns this week will go to Laffy's kitty and vice versa.

Gil announces that his interrogation questions have not been answered within 24 hours.  Bill thinks he has already done so, but because neither the host nor Laffy received any sort of response to the second set of questions, Laffy is penalised $10,000.

Bill then puts his guesses in for "Looking at the Facts".  He thinks the Laffy kitty stands at $90,000 and their mole is Katanna.  Laffy is given the gallery from Mason, which includes the Mason made artwork.  Katanna thinks the Mason artwork is the bottom right one and their mole is Bill.  He is correct about the artwork being created by Mason now earning Mason 20% of their earning because of the Mobius Strip exchange.  His guess about Bill is invalid because Gil already guessed that Nick was the Mole.

Time runs out for Mason, and 23 hours later, time runs out for Laffy.  It's now time for the final questionnaire.  Because it is the 'final' one, the questionnaire is twice as long as usual and does not only ask about the mole in the last week, but throughout the entire series.  Whoever scores the highest on the questionnaire, knowing most about his or her team's mole, and is on the team which accumulated the most money along the way, wins the entire series.

  1. What was the mole's involvement in "Dude, Where's my Team"?
  2. In "Chain Letter", when did the mole attach his/her picture?
  3. What was the mole's "Pieces of Eight" puzzle about?
  4. When was the mole's name read in the first elimination?
  5. What was the moles first task in "The Strongest Chain"?
  6. How many photos was obtained by the mole in "The Spies"?
  7. What reward was/would have been given to the mole after achieving his/her character's goal in "The Chance of Murder"?
  8. In Episode Two, how much of the team's penalties was the mole's fault?
  9. What was the outcome for the mole in "Simply Predictable"?
  10. What game did the mole play against the host in "Beat the Host"?
  11. What did the mole do in "Trapped"?
  12. Which 'accusation' was directed at the mole?
  13. In "Who wants to be a 1/4 millionaire", how many answers did the mole answer correctly?
  14. What was the mole's involvement in "Quick and Easy Artwork"?
  15. How many lies did the mole say in "Looking at the Facts"?
  16. Did the mole want the exchange in "The Mobius Strip"?
  17. Is the mole: Male or Female?
  18. How old is the mole?
  19. Where does the mole live?
  20. Who is the Mole?
Ten players were eliminated along the way and only six remain.  They take on their final interviews:
Host: How have you found the whole 'Mole Online' Experience?

Lisa: "I've had an absolute ball and have found it a unique experience.  I was very happy that I was playing this new format though, after seeing steve's experience I wasn't sure if it would have lost some of the magic (?), but I don't think I could have gone the distance.  The repeated call to the computer to check 'just in case' is insane :))"

Bill: "I had a great time.  Two points that I found making the job difficult was, first, eliminating a person who was suspected to be the mole.  The problem with that lies that it doesn't really matter what you do.  If someone is really not up on what they are doing, you can be eliminated.  Can also turn into a grudge match thing.  "I don't know who the mole is, I don't like so and so, I'll get rid of him."  Second is not finding out the outcome of challenges til after the questionaires are due.  That is where you get most of your information from.  Made it more difficult to decide not knowing what challenges were completed and which were not.  Otherwise, it was a fun game and I would play again."

Gil: "This has been a lot of fun, if not tiring and straining at times. It involves a lot of thought and motivation. It was hard to find communication early, but the more active players, were also the ones who were more responsive and I talked to a lot more. As my first one I didn't know what to expect, but what I got was beyond my expectations. Although not having played one before, I went into to game expecting to win. And if I do win, then I would find this experince to be very good indeed. Well done to the host, plus it wouldn't be as good if it weren't for the other contestants, thankyou."

Katanna: "It was great.  This is my second game (other than the one I am hosting) and the other one went caput. I think I did well to be this far.  I am glad I am in the last 3 (I perfer to think of it as 3, not 6) and am looking forword to trying out next season."

Host: Favourite challenge(s)/fellow contestant(s) and why?

Lisa: "Nikki was my favorite contestant, then Damon, although he didn't seem to be on much as Damon so does that count?? :)) I must say I was relieved to see Brian go (no offense intended) because although he was around alot and quite a nice, talkative kinda guy, AOL drove me NUTS."

Bill: "My favorite challenges were the Orient Express challenge (I love mystery's) and the Hotel Room challenge.  I prefer puzzle challenges.  Makes it more interesting.  I got along with Damon/Robbie.  We chatted constantly.  Brian was good to deal with.  I really didn't have much communication with the rest of my team.  The times differences made the game a bit harder to play."

Gil: "Favourite challenge was by far "Trapped", that was fantastic! You couldn't be involved in a more challenging, thought-provoking and interesting challenge. For all those who missed out on being in that challenge, you really missed out. Trying to work to get out of your room, and work with fellow contestants it was just great for this sort of game. Fellow contestants, would be a few. I didn't know what to expect from Dave, and for a while thought we weren't going to be friends, but he is a good person and player, enjoyed working with him in "Trapped". Cedric was good to talk to, and really let out what he thought. We got along pretty well, but as you will robably see later, there was an incident I didn't really like, that he was largely involved with, but that shouldn't stop anything. Matt (Katanna) was also good to talk to, we talked a fair bit, if at times we didn't know what each other was saying. But he is alright, in fact a pretty good person also. Tom was young and argumentative. Knew a lot of people thought he was the mole, and would try and get the host to say he wasn't which he did. Which i don't think is in the spirit of the game. He will probably tell me off for these comments, but i think he should look at how to play the game differently next time. The others it was harder to get to know. I was in the first group with John, who didn't respond early, which frustrated me early. He was a good player anyway. Troy I thought was the mole for a long while, so it was actually good to see him go, for me. It frustrated me that he had "Village Person" as his
name, I kept looking back to see who was this "Village Person". Sharna I didn't really get to know at all, I didn't build up any communication. But by her performance in other games, she seems to be a good player, who made one wrong decision."

Katanna: "Challanges:  I liked the idea of the web cam challange, enough that I used it in the game i am hosting.  I also liked the hotel challenge.  I would have liked the train challange better, but it kinda went dead, and no one knew what was going on.  I liked Gil because he was on alot, and Cedric because he was good at not acting like the mole."

Host: How could you justify that anyone on your team could be the mole?

Lisa: "Nick could have been chosen to be the mole because he's got the reverse MIDAS touch, a nifty trait for a Mole to have wouldn't you say? But LITTLE things always went wrong with Nick, never more than a string of coincidences that led to failure, but he always said things were going right at the time."

Bill: "Nick is my choice"

Lisa: "Bill could have been chosen to be the mole because he's older, wiser, and coordinated a group effort that never seemed to quite get there, If you want to lead someone blindly in the wrong direction why not do it from the front? He also avoided conversation after the initial hello's like the plague, maybe suspicious, maybe suspicious of me? who knows??? The Mole - AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH

Bill: "Lisa could have been chosen to be the mole because of her involvement in
previous games"

Gil: "Katanna could have been chosen to be the mole because he did a lot of suspicious things throughout this series. Here a just a few things I picked up along the way, by no means all the things I spotted. He set up an order to follow for the profile pictures, although he didn't seem to follow that order himself. Along with Cedric decided to change the order of the chain, and make a totally new one a few days out from the deadline. Made an interesting statement he wanted help further down the episodes, why would he say this? Does he know the challenges get harder or easier further towards the end, does he know he will be there further towards the end? Decided not to post for a ticket number when just about everybody else did. And in the end never sent the host a profile picture of himself. Costing us plenty of money. During strongest link challenge, he could have banked but didn't. Left the game for a week. His chat transcript from the host looked fake. Lost a battleship game with the host, it is an easy game to lose. Wanted to do the mobius strip when I kept telling him we had less money than the other team, if we have less money then we shouldn't do the switch because they would finish with more money than our team."

Gil: "Cedric could have been chosen as the mole because in the beginning he wanted to help when he didn't have a partner, but when his partner rocked up, he ditched me.  Sent his chain to John, but didn't make a comment on where John should send his, when he would have known that Katanna was supposed to be after John, but had already sent his through the chain. Changed the order with Katanna of the chain. It seemed whever Cedric had a harder challenge to do he wouldn't do it. Perhaps easy sabotage? Firstly was smartest, but didn't do the logical puzzle, but had Katanna do it. In the weakest link challenge he had to do a web page, again seems hard, but didn't do anything and cost us a fair bit of money with the pass, then tried to blame Matt for not banking earlier. He mixed up deadlines. Put more money to gamble than I wanted, but went ahead with it anyway, as he could always argue he said thats what he would do. Never caught the host online. Put up names for final episode in his order. Finally the one that really infuriated me, when there were 2 and half days to the deadline, said he thought it would be the last 1/4 millionaire question so took a guess when the answer is in the "Files" section clearly stated, clever sabotage as he could have allowed just enough money 90,000, but perhaps not enough to beat the other team who were about 70,000 in front of us. Either clever sabotage or a bit of stupidity."

Katanna: "Cedric could have been...  well, he is the mole.  Don't ask me for his good qualities though.  lol"

Katanna: "Gil could have been the mole because he is online a lot."

Gil: "Then finally both of them, in the art work challenge they both told me differing stories. As a result of me getting one of the questions right, took away a possible piece of art work. Cedric said that Matt said that piece was what he was saying was the other team's piece, however Matt said this wasn't the case and said they ruled out that piece early.  It could quite easy be either of them as you can see, but I am going with one because the other did more helpful things, and for a final piece of sabotage that tipped the scales. My thoughts on the mole have been 50/50 for the whole week, somethign would happen I would think he has to be the mole then something else would happen and I would think, couldn't be the mole."

Host: What do you want to say to the mole?

Lisa: "You did a fantastic job I have been totally confused to your identity the whole time.  my congratulations and good luck on your mole contest, if we loose I hope you can at least win gloriously thank you for a thoughroughly enjoyable game of The Mole Online"

Bill: "Good job and if I lose, you suck.  :-)"

Gil: "Good job. Extremely good job, as I stated above, I am not certain with my choice, so to get this far,you would think the contestants would be certain, so you
have done a very good job. I am sure there a things I have seen which were sabotage, and things I didn't see were sabotage. Hopefully this doesn't mean you were acting the whole way through. It is a game, and you played your part in the game, which was to try and fool us all, well done."

Katanna: "Good job.  could have been more active, but ok.  I don't know why I thought it was you.  I just took a guess and ran with it.  I did that in another game, and got kicked, but this time my gut insincts helped. Good job, see you in another game."

Host: Any more final words?

Lisa: "Wow, my final diary entry!!!!!!! I can't believe I'm here...It feels unreal (almost :) ) Well, thinking is about all I've been able to do for the last week so maybe I've wrongly convinced myself that Bill is a player like me. But the little things never seemed to add up for Nick and although all of us have had problems and been suspicious, it only seemed to be when Nick stepped forward and said it was all 'ok' that things went wrong for him...*ponders own track record -oops!* I've had a fun time either way,and have thorouhly enjoyed confusing myself Thankyou for a FANTASTIC experience, I think the new format is a great twist it makes elife sooo much more interesting :))"

Bill: "Good game to all members of both teams and I hope I win."

Gil: "No real final words. As you will see my suspicions changed almost every week. Things happen each week and your thoughts change. I went with who did it more regularly. I expected to be in this final group, though I was probably lucky to get here. It wasn't as long as I thought it would be, but as they say short but sweet. I could be out the door doing the bum dance, wearing bunny ears.  Or if the other team wins I could be Blair, making the final two, but the other team's kitty outdoes my
team's kitty. Or if we have a bigger kitty than they do, I could walk out the Big Brother house as Ben, the come from behind win, staying there to the end, and knowing most about the mole!"

Katanna: "Thanks for something to get me off the couch and on the chair!"

It's now time for the results to be revealed.  Each of the contestants are asked to type their password into the computer.  If their screen turns red, they haven't won the series.  If their screen turns green, they are the player who knows the most about his or her team's mole and was in the team which accumulated the most money along the way.

After four weeks of deceit and betrayal it is

LISA of MASON

who came out on top.  The big surprise is that she is the wife of the series II winner STEVE.  The moles are finally revealed to the remaining contestants:

After already being a contestant on The Mole: Online in three series, NICK finally has his turn for being the mole for MASON.

On the LAFFY team, it is CEDRIC, the first time playing French man who is revealed as the other mole.

The remaining contestants walk away empty handed.  BILL, who was on the higher scoring team but didn't know enough about the mole; GIL who knew enough about the mole, but wasn't on the highest scoring team; and KATANNA who didn't know enough about the mole and wasn't on the highest scoring team.

Another series comes to an end with The Mole: Online having it's first female winner, Lisa.
