Watching Light
by Windzweaver

The whelp finally saw it. He saw what every demon who came to Hellmouth
wanted. He doesn't know what he saw but he saw it. The bleeding idiots he
surrounds himself with never saw so they don't know it's missing. Not that
it's really missing. He may think he can disguise it but anyone who's ever
seen it knows it's there. It's still a part of him.

And someday it'll belong to me. Someday He'll belong to me.

Oh yes my pet is just the perfect mix of predator and prey, and I hunger for
both.

He one of the few beings I've ever seen with a truly innocent core. He
watches the world with such wonder and enthusiasm.

Angelus saw it and he wanted nothing more then to crush it. Oh Buffy wasn't
his real aim after he turned back into the soddin' git. He wanted to
destroy that pure innocence. He couldn't stand to see it exist. Believe it
or not that's why Buffy became the target. Knew the whelp was half in love
half in worship of her Buff Puff ness. The best way to destroy an idol is
to expose it's clay feet. Problem was that the whelp didn't lose faith.

If he couldn't have faith in the idol he had faith in the fight instead.
Angelus never understood all the whelp either. He always missed the warrior
that guarded the innocent.

He didn't realize that the whelp keeps gettin' up even though he knows
there's no way he'll win. After all what's one light in all this darkness.

It's fuckin' beautiful, it is. Fuckin' beautiful.

So let him hide behind those flimsy walls of self delusion. Let 'im think
there's no one around that still sees the light. I'll still be here when he
comes out.

And both the innocent and the warrior will be mine.
