The Meeting
By Panda

The first thing Xander realized was that he was wet and lying on the ground.
The second thing was that he could feel something sticky on the side of his
face. He tried to think back as to how he could have ended up here, but was
drawing a blank. He knew that he had been going through the mountains of
Washington on his way back from his summer construction job in Vancouver. He
remembered seeing the motorcycle behind him, and trying to slow down but
being unable to do so. Suddenly, a buzz cut through his skull like a knife
through butter.

"Easy there, Hun. Its going to be OK. Just relax it should be gone now,"
said a throaty voice. " Why don't you open your eyes and sit up for a moment?
It might help you get oriented a little better."

Xander followed the instructions and found himself in a clearing near a
raging river, lying next to a fire. As he sat up and looked around, he saw
where the voice was coming from. She was sitting across from him with her
back to a tree, looking like she had taken a dip in the river with all her
clothes on. Her waist length brown hair was plastered to her head and her
jeans and T-shirt were sticking to her skin. She looked around his age, give
or take a few years, but her deep blue eyes told a different story.

"Who are…? What? Where? " he asked, still disoriented from whatever had
happen.

"Don't forget the when, why, and how," she said in a voice that gave no
indication as to where she was from. "OK, I'll start with the easy one: who.
My name is Monique Crusher, but you can call me Mac, Alexander. And before
you ask that question, I looked in your wallet for ID," she said as she held
it up and tossed it back to him. "Now on to the where. We are still in the
Cascade Mountains near Seattle."

" OK. First off, I hate the name Alexander, so it's just Xander. Second, you
forgot to answer the most important question: What happen? " he said ,still a
little confused.

" Oh that's a simple one. What happened is that you died," Mac said in a
matter-of-fact tone.
