The minute Dr. Steve Hardy caught a glimpse of
the former Audrey March, he was a goner. First impressions rarely last, and
they're even more rarely accurate, but in Steve's case, his impression of Audrey
was on the mark: She was the one for him. Over the course of their relationship,
Audrey sometimes wondered if she really was the kind of woman Steve needed.
Maybe she wasn't always. But by the time Steve passed away, Audrey had become
everything he ever needed or wanted. She
first set foot in Port Charles in 1964, on a trip to visit her sister, Lucille,
a senior nurse at General Hospital. Lucille disapproved of Audrey because,
although her wild sister was trained as a nurse, she was wasting her skills
working as a flight attendant. Steve approved of Audrey, though; for him, it was
love at first sight. After she began working as a private nurse for junior
executive Randy Washburn, she soon found herself with two marriage proposals on
the table - one from her playboy patient, the other from Steve. Fearing she
would never be the kind of wife a dedicated doctor like Steve needed, Audrey
accepted Randy's proposal. When she came down with lymphoma, Randy found the
nearest exit. Audrey recovered, Steve worked up the nerve to propose again, and
this time, she accepted. They wed in 1965. But their marriage wasn't always a
solid one. Because Steve was sterile, Audrey had herself artificially
inseminated - secretly! When Steve found out, even though it turned out that he
wasn't sterile after all, he left her. Audrey miscarried their baby in a car
accident and left for Vietnam to work with orphans. By the time Audrey returned to Port Charles, she had a new
husband: ill-tempered Dr. Tom Baldwin. To prove to him (and to herself) that she
was over Steve, she became pregnant with Tom's child. As Tom became ever more
surly, Audrey became ever more eager to extricate herself from their marriage.
When she finally did obtain a divorce, she told Tom that their son had been
stillborn. In reality, Tom Jr. was alive and well, and secretly
living with a babysitter, Mrs. Nelson. Audrey kept this secret for months, and
when a greedy Mrs. Nelson was murdered, Audrey went on trial and was cleared
when the killer turned out to be a gentleman friend of Mrs. Nelson's. When Tom
found out that his son was alive, he kidnapped the boy but died shortly
thereafter. Audrey was joyously reunited with her son.
After Audrey's disastrous, short-lived marriage to two-timing Dr. Jim
Hobart drove her to a suicide attempt, she finally reunited with Steve in 1977,
and they remarried. Together, the Hardys raised a fine son, Tom, and became as
much the foundation of General Hospital as the ground upon which its facilities
were built. In 1991, Audrey became a mother again - sort of. When Tom, now a
respected psychiatrist, left for Africa and his estranged wife, Simone Ravelle,
headed for Romania, the care of their young son, Tommy, was left to Audrey. Her
life changed forever in 1996, when the love of her life, Steve, passed away. The
following year, Audrey nearly died when she stumbled upon a hostage situation on
the hospital's sixth floor. When she was hit on the head by crazed intern Greg
Cooper, Audrey sustained a serious injury that required immediate attention.
Thanks to impromptu efforts of GH's new interns, her life was saved.
Audrey's maternal instincts were put to the test once again with the
arrival of her two teenage granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Webber. When Liz
was brutally raped, Audrey had a peculiar reaction to the news by insisting that
her granddaughter put the rape behind her and to forget that it happened.
Audrey's emotional distance was part of a bigger issue -- she had been raped
many years ago when married to Tom Baldwin. After realizing that Liz thought
that she was ashamed of her, Audrey told Liz about her marriage to Tom and his
cruel treatment of her which culminated in him raping her. Audrey then pledged
Liz her full support in helping her deal with her pain.
Audrey resides at 453 Maple Ave. in Port Charles,
New York.
Marcus Taggert is a proud member of the Port
Charles police force and is definitely a no-nonsense type of man! Marcus, or
Taggert as he is often referred to, has had a brief flirtation with Dara in the
past, but now seems to be taken with Hannah Scott. Taggert recently took on a new role when he volunteered to
look after Juan Santiago after his father agreed to allow Juan to remain in Port
Charles. There is no love lost
between Taggert and Sonny and their animosity can be traced back for decades.
As a young man, Taggert had a mentor on the police force named Deke, who
was also Sonny's stepfather. Taggert admired Deke and refuses to believe that he
was horribly abusive to Sonny and his mother.
Taggert was surprised when his sister, Gia, arrived in Port Charles and
wasn't pleased to learn that she had taken time off from school. Taggert and Gia
had a strained relationship at best and Gia even hid her presence from him when
she first arrived in town. Shortly thereafter, Taggert's mother, Florence, also
came to Port Charles. Taggert and Hannah continued to grow closer and became
lovers. Taggert, however, continued to be annoyed by Hannah's friendship with AJ
Quartermaine. Hannah had made it clear to AJ that she was involved with Taggert
and that they would never share more than just friendship, but AJ clearly wanted
more with Hannah. Hannah's friendship with AJ strained her
relationship with Taggert, who reached his breaking point and ended things with
her.
After the Port Charles police
closed down the Paradise Lounge for employing minors like Karen and Stone, Sonny
became the front man for mobster Frank Smith, Luke Spencer's longtime nemesis.
When Frank was killed, Sonny bluffed his way through a mob war with Puerto Rican
gangster Rivera so beautifully that he wound up taking over all of Frank's
holdings. At the same time, romance
was blossoming between Sonny and model Brenda Barrett. The unlikely duo were
crazy about one another and even went so far as to move in together. But Brenda
was suspicious of Sonny's mob ties, and in 1995, she agreed to wear a wire when
she investigated her fears. Lily Rivera tipped off her friend, Sonny, to
Brenda's plan, and the couple broke up - each of them feeling betrayed by the
other. That same year, Sonny was reunited with his estranged
father, Mike Corbin. In 1996, in exchange for Rivera's help in getting
racketeering charges against him dropped, Sonny agreed to marry his confidante,
Lily. Although Sonny cared for his
new bride, his heart still belonged to Brenda. He was about to break it to Lily
that he was leaving her when she told him that she was pregnant with his child.
Tragedy struck shortly thereafter when Lily was killed by a car bomb that her
father intended to blow up Sonny. In his grief and shame, Rivera killed himself,
in the process, making Sonny the new crime boss of Port Charles.
Brenda came to Sonny in his hour of need, but she was not free to resume
their relationship. She had married suave Australian financier Jax. Sonny didn't
trust Jax from the getgo and endeavored to dig up some dirt on his rival. What
he found was Jax's long-lost wife, Miranda Jameson, whom he brought to disrupt
Brenda and Jax's renewal of their vows ceremony. It worked - to a point. Brenda
called off the event but not the marriage.
In 1997, when Sonny and Brenda were trapped together in the catacombs
beneath Port Charles and certain they were going to die, they gave in to the
passion that had smoldered beneath their surface feelings for so long and made
love. Sonny and Brenda became a full fledged couple and
planned on getting married. Sonny, however, realized that Brenda would never be
truly safe at his side and made the ultimate sacrifice when he left her standing
at the altar. Sonny then lived in a self imposed exile on his island in the
Caribbean. Sonny returned to Port
Charles at the urging of Jason to settle some unrest within the organization.
Once back in town, Sonny decided to stay and take back control of his business
with Jason. Sonny was taken aback one day when he met Hannah Scott, a young
woman who greatly resembled Brenda. Sonny quickly entered into a romance with
Hannah and was outraged to discover that she was really an FBI agent assigned to
bring him down. Sonny ended his relationship with Hannah and refused to believe
that she had ever truly loved him. This sent Sonny on a downward emotional
spiral which resulted in him having a one night stand with Carly. Sonny and
Jason's friendship was destroyed by this betrayal and Sonny was further
convinced that he only brought pain to those he cared about.
Sonny soon suspected that Carly was pregnant with his child and his
suspicions were confirmed. Carly and Sonny didn't like each other one bit, but
Sonny made it clear to Carly that he was going to be a part of his child's life
and announced that he was the father of her baby in front of the Quartermaines.
AJ vowed to make Carly's life miserable and refused to give her a divorce
or leave the mansion with Michael. Having no one else to turn to, Carly went to
Sonny for help. Sonny contacted Jason who told him about AJ hiring an arsonist
to burn down the coffee warehouse. Armed
with this information, Sonny confronted AJ and made him sign a document granting
Carly a divorce and full custody of Michael.
Sonny then insisted that Carly and Michael move in with him at his
penthouse. Sonny and Carly were far from friends, but both were surprised by the
easy rapport that developed between them. After sharing a kiss, Carly and Conny
made love. Sonny then shocked Carly
by insisting they get married before their child was born. Carly refused to
marry Sonny, but eventually accepted his ring. Carly and Sonny continued to grieve for their baby, but eventually bonded
over their loss. Carly wanted revenge against AJ, but Sonny stopped her from
shooting him at the Nurses Ball. Carly was falling apart emotionally and Sonny
took her and Michael to his island paradise for some relaxation. The trip worked
wonders for Carly and she and Sonny became lovers again.
Carly was hopeful for a future with Sonny, but became heartbroken when
she overheard Sonny refer to her and Michael as being obligations. Carly wanted
Sonny to be with her because he wanted to, not because he thought he had to.
Sonny and Carly remained at odds couldn't bring themselves to say what the other
wanted to hear. During this time, Mike racked up a huge gambling
debt with Sorel and turned to Carly for help. Sorel contacted Sonny, who agreed
to a meeting. Thinking she was doing the right thing, Carly secretly went to the
meeting place and was stunned when Sonny arrived. The police had also been
tipped off and Sonny and Carly were both arrested! Alexis got Sonny released from jail but his problems were far
from over. Alexis explained to Sonny that Carly would be the prosecutions star
witness and both Alexis and Sonny knew that Carly would be a loose cannon on the
stand. Sonny was then shocked when Alexis said he had to marry Carly to prevent
her from testifying. Carly was
stunned when Sonny announced that the only way to keep her off the witness stand
was for them to get married. Carly told Sonny that she couldn't marry without
love and Sonny was unable to admit to Carly that he loved her.
Carly later agreed to marry Sonny, who promised they would try to make a
happy home together. Carly and Sonny were then married as planned. Sonny and
Carly began to warm up to each other and later shared a passionate kiss.
Sonny and Carly continued to dance around their true feelings for one
another. Slowly, Sonny and Carly started to make a real connection and when
Sonny learned that Mike was missing, he allowed Carly to help him deal with his
pain. Sonny learned that the charges against him had been dropped and that there
wouldn't be a trial after all, but he and Carly mutually agreed to stay married.
Sonny, Carly and Michael had actually formed a happy little family!
Sonny and Carly were happily married and living at the penthouse with
Michael. One day, Carly was grabbed by Sorel's men, but was quickly rescued by
Sonny. Mob violence was once again brewing in Port Charles as Sonny found
himself on the brink of a war with Sorel. Sonny had convinced Zander to testify
against Sorel and it was just a matter of time before Sorel took action.
Sonny warned Carly that
Sorel's threats were increasing but promised to always protect her. Soon
thereafter, Sonny learned that Sorel was plotting to kill him. Sonny kept this
news from Carly and then shocked her by announcing that he was going to Puerto
Rico. Before leaving, Sonny promised Carly that he would be home in time for
Christmas. Carly was beside herself with worry for Sonny and was very relieved
when he returned home. Carly's happiness was shattered, however, when Sonny was
shot by Sorel's men on the steps of the police department as he was escorting
Alexis and Zander out of the building. Alexis told Carly that Sonny had declared
his love for Carly before losing consciousness. Carly stayed by Sonny's bedside
and urged him to live. Carly also told an unconscious Sonny that she loved him.
While unconscious, Sonny had an out of body experience and traveled to
the other side where he visited Lily and the children he had lost. An emotional
Sonny told Lily that he was in love with Carly and wasn't ready to stay on the
other side with her. Sonny then returned and made a full recovery.
Sonny and Carly were more in love than ever and Sonny asked Carly to
marry him again in a way that showed their true feelings for one another.
Growing up with her adoptive parents, Carly
Benson - or Caroline, as is her real name - never much liked who she was. She
had been abandoned as a newborn, given up for adoption by a mother that she
always assumed never wanted her and never gave her a second thought. She was
wrong; Nurse Bobbie Jones thought every day about the little girl she left
behind when she was a teenager on the streets. But Carly couldn't know that,
just as she couldn't know how it would feel to like herself. At least, not until
she fell in love with Bobbie's husband, Dr. Tony Jones. In his arms, she liked
who she was - the woman he loved! When
Carly arrived in Port Charles, she made it her life's work to ingratiate herself
to everyone who crossed her path. Her Ms. Nice Guy routine worked wonders on
everyone - except for Nurse Amy Vining. An old pro at spotting people with two
faces, Amy knew from the start that there was more to General Hospital's new
physical therapist than met the eye. Carly made a special point to get close to Bobbie
and her husband, Tony. Unbeknownst to Bobbie, Carly was the daughter that she
bore and gave up for adoption when she was a teenage prostitute some 20 years
ago. With their encouragement, Carly decided to study nursing.
Unfortunately, Carly wasn't a crackerjack student and to pass the entry
test, she stole the exam. Carly's personal life wasn't a model one either. Even
as brain-damaged Jason Morgan was falling in love with Robin Scorpio, he carried
on a secret sexual relationship with Carly.
At the same time, Carly was developing strong feelings for Tony. Although
she had come to town intent on evening the score with her mother, she had found
something special in Tony. For the first time in her life, she felt cared for.
For her part, Carly made Tony, who had shut down emotionally following
the death of his daughter, B.J., feel alive. In 1996, their fondness for one
another gave way to passion, and they began an affair.
The same day that Bobbie walked in on the lovers, her brother, Luke,
discovered that Carly was the long-lost daughter that Bobbie had been searching
for. To spare Bobbie any further pain, he told her that her child had died - And
he told Carly to get out of Dodge. But
stubborn Carly stuck it out in Port Charles, and soon, she and Tony were the
talk of the town - and living together. His continued feelings for Bobbie, even
after she married Stefan Cassadine, infuriated Carly, In a fit of pique, she
made love with a drunken A.J. Quartermaine. Tony and Carly managed to patch
things up and Carly learned that she was pregnant. The only question that
remained was whether AJ or Tony was the baby's father. Carly was desperate to
hang on to Tony and became concerned when A.J. started to remember events from
the night they had slept together. Carly drugged A.J. to make it seem that he
had fallen off the wagon. A.J. was ready to leave Port Charles permanently and
check himself into a clinic, but Keesha helped him piece together the events
surrounding his black out. AJ discovered Carly's deception and learned that they
had slept together and that he may be the father of her baby. After further
unsuccessful attempts by Carly to fool AJ about the paternity of her baby, A.J.
washed his hands of her, but made it clear that he was going to have a paternity
test done when her baby was born. Eventually,
Tony discovered more of Carly's lies and deception and decided to break up with
her and sue for sole custody of her baby. Carly learned what Tony was doing and
told him that Jason was the father of the baby. Jason agreed to go along with
Carly's scheme, but made it clear that he would not lie if asked about the true
paternity of the baby. Carly gave
birth to a baby boy and Tony learned that the baby's blood type ruled him out as
the father. To the surprise of both Jason and Carly, AJ incorrectly concluded
that Jason was the father of the baby. Carly then decided to leave town for a
while and left Jason in charge of raising her son. While Carly was away, Jason
had the baby baptized and named him Michael, after Sonny.
When Carly returned to Port Charles, Bobbie was concerned that Carly was
not bonding with her son and helped her bond with her baby. Bobbie's help and
her emotional account of why she had given Carly up for adoption made Bobbie and
Carly closer. An emotional Carly was moved to tell Bobbie that she was her
daughter Caroline. Bobbie was shocked to learn that Carly had known all
along that she was her daughter and how Carly had plotted to ruin her life. A
livid Bobbie then cut off all ties with Carly. Virginia Benson, Carly's adoptive
mother, arrived in Port Charles and was sickened when she learned about all of
Carly's dirty deeds and was upset that Carly never told her about Michael. The
stress of the confrontation caused Virginia to suffer a stroke and die.
Carly later returned to Florida with Jason and made peace with her past
and her mother's memory. When Jason and Carly returned home, Carly invited
herself into his bed and tried to make love to him. Jason rejected Carly and
made it clear that he was still in love with Robin and only wanted to remain
friends with Carly. The rift between Bobbie and Carly quickly closed when Michael
was kidnapped by Tony. The two rekindled their bond and Bobbie stood by Carly
during Tony's kidnapping trial. When Tony got off virtually scott-free for his
crimes, an emotional Carly shot him. Even when Carly was sent away to Shadybrook
Psychiatric Center for tests, Bobbie never left her daughter's side. Carly
could not get beyond her love for Jason Morgan, even though it was discovered
that he was not Michael's father, his brother AJ was. AJ proposed to Carly in an
attempt to make her fall in love with him and prove to the Quartermaines that he
could be in a successful marriage to a beautiful woman.
Carly reluctantly agreed, but only to secure the life and financial
security of her son Michael. Carly and AJ tried to make it work, but she was
always being pulled to Jason, and AJ couldn't take it.
Upset about Jason's closeness with Elizabeth Webber, Carly sought comfort
in the arms of Sonny and got pregnant. After an unsuccessful attempt to seduce
AJ so she could pass the baby off as his, Sonny figured out that Carly was
carrying his child. He freed Carly of AJ and the Quartermaines, got her a
quickie divorce, and moved her from the Quartermaine mansion to his penthouse.
Sonny and Carly's happiness was shattered when Carly lost her unborn baby
after falling down the stairs at the Quartermaine mansion while arguing with AJ.
Sonny and Carly were both devastated by their loss.
Carly and Sonny continued to grieve for their baby, but eventually bonded
over their loss. Carly wanted Sonny to take revenge against AJ and came up with
a plot of her own when he refused. To that end, Carly secretly took a gun to the
Nurses Ball and planned on killing AJ. Sonny stopped Carly before she shot AJ,
who merely laughed in the face of death. Carly was falling apart emotionally and
Sonny took her and Michael to his island paradise for some relaxation. The trip
worked wonders for Carly and she and Sonny became lovers again.
Carly was hopeful for a future with Sonny, but became heartbroken when
she overheard Sonny refer to her and Michael as being obligations. Carly wanted
Sonny to be with her because he wanted to, not because he thought he had to. To
that end, Carly surprised Sonny when she announced that she and Michael were
moving into the brownstone. Neither Sonny nor Carly really wanted to change
their living arrangement, but both were too stubborn to admit their true
feelings. Carly remained at the brownstone for the time being and she and Sonny
missed many opportunities to connect. During
this time, Mike racked up a huge gambling debt with Sorel and turned to Carly
for help. Against her own better judgement, Carly went to Sonny and asked for
money claiming it was for a down payment on a house. Sonny believed Carly's
story and gave her the money. A short time later, Sorel contacted Sonny and told
him about Mike's debt and Sonny agreed to a meeting. Carly, however, was under
the impression that Mike would be meeting with Sorel and she tipped the police
as to what was going down. Carly then went to the meeting place and hid in the
closet with a tape recorder. Carly was then stunned when Sonny arrived for the
meeting and even more shocked when the police arrived and arrested her and
Sonny! Sonny told Carly that she and Michael were moving into the penthouse
immediately and although Carly wanted to move back, this wasn't how she wanted
it to happen. Alexis then explained to Sonny that Carly would be the
prosecutions star witness and both Alexis and Sonny knew that Carly would be a
loose cannon on the stand. Sonny was then shocked when Alexis said he had to
marry Carly to prevent her from testifying.
Carly was stunned when Sonny announced that the only way to keep her off
the witness stand was for them to get married. Jason offered Sonny an
alternative to marrying Carly and said he would take her and Michael out of the
country. Carly, who truly did have feelings for Sonny, realized she couldn't run
away with Jason. Carly then agreed to marry Sonny, who promised they would try
to make a happy home together. Carly and Sonny were then married as planned and
Sonny was thrown when Jason explained that Sonny was the man Carly loved.
Sonny and Carly began to warm up to each other and later shared a
passionate kiss. Afraid of being rejected, however, Carly asked Sonny if they
could take things slowly. Shortly thereafter, Sonny confronted Mike, who ended
up hitting Sonny in a moment of fury. Sonny retreated into his own private pain
and pushed Carly away. Sonny then shocked Carly when he said he was going to
have their marriage annulled. Sonny
and Carly continued to dance around their true feelings for one another. Slowly,
Sonny and Carly started to make a real connection and when Sonny learned that
Mike was missing, he allowed Carly to help him deal with his pain. Sonny learned
that the charges against him had been dropped and that there wouldn't be a trial
after all, but he and Carly mutually agreed to stay married. Sonny, Carly and
Michael had actually formed a happy little family!
A lot of people in Port
Charles would say that Jason Quartermaine died the day he was involved in the
car accident that left him with brain damage. Others know better. He may not act
the same or dress the same, but deep down, he loves the same.
In 1991, Jason came home from boarding school and quickly learned to
contend with his big half-brother, A.J., by cutting him a lot of slack. A year
later, Jason found a kindred spirit in fellow high school junior Karen Wexler,
whose mother, Rhonda, was, like A.J., an alcoholic. So
preoccupied with Karen was Jason, in fact, that he completely ignored
underclassman Robin Scorpio, who harbored a big crush on him. He had more
important things to worry about - like Karen's obvious chemistry with her
Kelly's co-worker, Jagger Cates. Even though Karen agreed to go steady with
Jason and even though they were crowned the king and queen of the Valentine's
Day dance, she couldn't deny her attraction to Jagger, and that very night, she
left the dance with him, breaking Jason's heart. By 1995, Jason had found new love with pert Keesha Ward. On
spring break, the couple didn't head to the beach but to Paris, where they
admitted that they both were virgins. They didn't come home that way.
A year later, a single event changed the course of Jason's life - and in
fact, Jason himself - forever. Intent on stopping A.J. from driving drunk, Jason
got into a car with his brother. The accident that followed left Jason with
permanent brain damage and no memory whatsoever of his family or of Keesha.
Jason couldn't stand the way people looked at him after the accident,
always hoping to see some glint of recognition in his eyes. He pushed both his
relatives and Keesha away, went to work for mobster Sonny Corinthos and changed
his name to Jason Morgan. His birthday, he would declare, wasn't the day he was
born but the day of the accident. The
one person who was able to get through to Jason was his old high school
classmate, Robin. She was patient with him and had no expectations. She just
accepted him for who he was - not for who he used to be. What began as a
friendship turned into a deep and abiding love. But there was a complication: All the while Jason was falling
for Robin, he was sleeping with scheming Carly Roberts. When he ended their
affair, she threatened to blab to Robin. But Carly was all talk; she was just
hurt that Jason didn't want her. Because
of Robin's HIV-positive status, when she and Jason consummated their love, they
had to do so very carefully. Beforehand, they spoke frankly about their fears
and their desire, and although their lovemaking may not have been the same as
other couples', it was just as intense and certainly more meaningful. Jason and
Robin's romance was threatened when Carly's manipulations ripped them apart.
Jason became a father unexpectedly when Carly broke up with Tony and
claimed that Jason was the father of her child. Carly claimed that she had been
having an affair with Jason and he went along with Carly's lie. Carly told Jason
the truth about Bobbie being her mother and her night of passion with AJ and how
AJ could be the father of the baby. After
Carly gave birth to her son, Jason took the child into his care when she left
town suffering from post-partum depression. Even though Tony's dream of becoming
a father came to an end when the paternity test proved that he was not the
father of Carly's baby, Tony swore to get even with Jason and Carly.
AJ incorrectly concluded from the test results that Jason was the baby's
father. However, that did not stop Edward, Alan, AJ and Tony try to take Carly's
baby from Jason when he brought him to the Quartermaine mansion for Emily's
birthday. Their plan failed miserably and the family lost both Jason and Michael
for good. Justus became disgusted with the Quartermaines and ELQ life and agreed
to be Jason's legal counsel. Jason
and Robin were back together and Jason wanted to guarantee that Robin and
Michael would always be safe. To that end, Jason met with his rival, Moreno, and
announced his resignation from the organization. Jason went to work as a
mechanic and he and Robin moved into Brenda's vacant cottage with Michael.
Robin and Jason were very much in love. One day, Jason returned to the
garage and was shocked to find AJ there alone with Michael. Jason was furious
and couldn't accept the fact that Robin had no choice but to leave Michael with
AJ. Jason felt betrayed and a rift developed between him and Robin. Jason and
Robin quickly reconciled, but Robin was concerned over Jason's deep attachment
to Michael. Robin also continued to worry about what the future would hold once
Carly was released from Ferncliff and hated the fact that her and Jason's lives
revolved around Carly. Jason
proved to Carly that he could still make things happen even after leaving the
organization when he arranged for her release from Ferncliff. Carly moved into
the cottage with Jason, Michael and Robin and secretly planned on a future of
her own with Jason. By this time,
however, mob violence was starting to rear its ugly head in Port Charles again
and Mac was seriously wounded in a shootout at the Outback. Carly urged Jason to
return to the organization, but he remained hesitant to do so. Robin
was thrilled when Sonny returned to Port Charles as she hoped he would be able
to help her with Carly, who continued to use Michael to manipulate Jason. Robin
reached her breaking point when Jason announced that he was going to move into
the brownstone with Carly and Michael in order to solve everyone's problems.
Robin was stunned by Jason's "solution" and they broke up. Thinking
she was protecting Jason from future pain at the hands of Carly, Robin did the
unthinkable. Robin went to AJ and told him the truth - AJ, not Jason, was
Michael's biological father. Jason was furious over Robin's betrayal and made it
clear he would never forgive her. AJ
shocked the Quartermaines with the news about Michael and battle lines were
quickly drawn. Jason assured Carly that no one would take Michael away from him
and they prepared to do battle with the Quartermaines.
Jason and Carly planned to leave Port Charles and go on the run with
Michael. Jason left town with Michael and Carly planned on joining them later.
Carly, however, changed her mind and didn't rendezvous with Jason as planned.
Instead, Carly went to the Quartermaine mansion and said that Jason had
kidnapped Michael. Carly started spinning a tale of lies and was able to
convince the Quartermaines that she was on their side. Carly even moved into the
mansion! Sonny was furious over what Carly had done to Jason and he
told Jason about Carly's betrayal. Sonny was then incredulous when Jason
defended Carly and decided to return to Port Charles with Michael. Alone with
Jason, Carly explained herself and told Jason of her latest plan. Carly planned
on winning AJ over to her side and then marrying him. Carly explained that she
would then divorce AJ and return to Jason with Michael. Jason didn't think
Carly's plan would work, but he went along with it anyway. Alexis agreed to
represent Jason in his custody battle against the Quartermaines.
Sonny and Jason were devastated to learn that their coffee warehouse had
burned to the ground and they suspected Moreno was behind the fire. Jason then
received even more bad news when he was forced to take Michael to the
Quartermaine mansion to live. Jason also lost visitation rights to Michael.
After teaming up to prove that Hannah Scott was actually an undercover
agent for the FBI, Jason and Carly grew closer while watching the FBI raid
Moreno's warehouse. Soon thereafter, Jason and Carly shared a kiss and Carly was
certain she and Jason could have a future together. A short time later, Carly
misinterpreted a close moment between Jason and Liz. Carly turned to Sonny and
their mutual pain and anger lead to an outburst of passion and they made love.
At this same time, Jason filled in for Sonny at a meeting with Moreno and ended
up getting shot. After being shot
by Moreno, Jason returned to Sonny's penthouse and was stunned to discover that
Carly and Sonny had slept together. Jason turned his back on Sonny and Carly and
collapsed outside in the snow. Liz came to Jason's aid and took him to her
studio. Jason refused to let Liz contact either the police or Sonny, but Liz
took matters into her own hands and arranged for Bobbie to treat Jason's wound.
Liz convinced Jason to stay at her studio with her and he eventually made a full
recovery. In the process, Liz and Jason became very close friends.
Carly was devastated by Jason's rejection, but was determined to make him
love her again. Carly was also determined to keep custody of Michael and end her
marriage to AJ, but AJ made it clear that neither Carly nor Michael would be
going anywhere. Fearing for her safety, Jason distanced himself from Liz. A
short time later, Jason said goodbye to Sonny, Emily, Monica and Lila and headed
out of town. Although Jason didn't
return to Port Charles, he did come to Carly's rescue once again. Jason phoned
Sonny and told him that AJ had been responsible for hiring an arsonist to burn
down their coffee warehouse. Armed with this information, Sonny forced AJ to
relinquish all rights to Michael and give Carly a divorce.
Several months later, Jason returned to Port Charles.
Jason offered Sonny an alternative to marrying Carly and said he would
take her and Michael out of the country. Jason admitted to Sonny that he only
loved Carly as a friend, but said he would do whatever Sonny wanted. Carly, who
truly did have feelings for Sonny, realized she couldn't run away with Jason.
Carly then agreed to marry Sonny, who promised they would try to make a happy
home together. The Justice of the Peace arrived at Sonny's penthouse, but Carly
got a case of cold feet. Jason spoke to Carly but Sonny misinterpreted their
conversation and thought Carly still loved Jason. Carly and Sonny were then
married as planned and Sonny was thrown when Jason explained that Sonny was the
man Carly loved. During this same
time, Emily had been kidnapped by Zander but she soon realized he was just
another one of Sorel's victims and went from being his hostage to being his
friend. Jason and Lucky tracked Emily and Zander down and were prepared to
rescue Emily and turn Zander over to the cops. Jason and Lucky were then shocked
when Emily begged them to let Zander escape. Jason and Lucky did as Emily asked
and Zander took off for Canada. Jason brought Emily home, much to the delight of
the Quartermaines. Jason then left
Port Charles again but returned in January 2001 when he learned that Sorel and
Carlos had joined forces to eliminate Sonny permanently. Liz was thrilled to see
Jason back in town and he asked if he could hide out at her studio as he needed
to keep his return a secret. Jason also told Liz that she couldn't tell Lucky
that he was back in town. Liz was torn about lying to Lucky, but agreed to help
Jason and keep his secret.
The fact that the former Monica Bard never has
wanted for attention is not by accident, it's by design. Raised in a foundling
home, the formidable doctor has suffered for most of her life from an innate
fear of being alone. Since she met and married her soulmate, Dr. Alan
Quartermaine, she's had a number of lovers, some of whom she's lived with. But
none of them have been like Alan: someone she couldn't live without.
In 1976, Monica was in the middle of a traumatic love triangle. She was
married to Dr. Jeff Webber but desperately in love with his late brother, fellow
M.D. Rick. When it turned out that Rick was alive, Monica wanted nothing more
than to be with him. But extricating herself from her marriage to Jeff was no
mean feat. As Monica became increasingly jealous of Rick's relationship with Dr.
Lesley Faulkner, Jeff grew ever more unstable, and even shot himself.
Finally, in 1977, Monica
obtained a divorce from Jeff after Rick proposed to Lesley. A year later, Monica
was distracted by a new arrival in Port Charles, wealthy Dr. Alan Quartermaine -
so much so that she married him. In 1979, Monica resumed her affair with Rick but only
briefly. She became pregnant and stayed with Alan; Rick remained married to
Lesley. Monica and Rick became the targets of a foiled murder plot by Alan in
1980, when the mad doctor learned that his son, Alan Jr., was really Rick's.
Monica obtained the ammunition that she needed to divorce Alan in 1981,
when his mistress, Susan Moore, gave birth to his son, Jason. A loophole in
Alan's gift of his family's home to Monica prevented her from kicking him out,
though, so she sectioned off the Quartermaine mansion into "his" and
"hers" wings. She wouldn't allow Jason, whose mother was murdered, in
either of them until it dawned on her that if the Q's didn't take in the boy,
his guardian would be nutcase Heather Webber, his mother's cousin.
In 1986, Monica teamed up with Sean Donely, bankrupted the Quartermaines
and finally evicted them. After Alan faked his own murder in an attempt to frame
Sean and got amnesia, Monica fell in love with him all over again.
Two years later, Monica and Alan were at odds over the assistant chief of
staff position at General Hospital. When Alan blew her big chance, she visited
Green Meadows spa and slept with the tennis pro, Ward, who turned out to be Ned
Ashton, the son of Alan's sister, Tracy. In 1989, Monica was reunited with her
long-lost daughter, Dawn Winthrop, who left Ned at the altar upon learning of
his fling with her mother. In 1994,
Monica underwent a mastectomy and afterwards, rebuffed Alan's advances.
Monica and Alan took in her friend and fellow cancer patient Page Bowen's
daughter, Emily, when she died in 1995. Feeling
unattractive, Monica succumbed to the charms of younger man Pierce Dorman in
1996, then was suspected of murdering him in 1997.
Alan and Monica were beside themselves with worry when Emily was
kidnapped by a drug dealer named Zander. As it turned out, Zander was just
another one of Sorel's victims and Emily wasn't in any real danger from him. In
fact, Emily saw Zander's true colors and they formed a deep bond.
Alan and Monica were greatly relieved when Jason brought Emily home safe
and sound. Alan and Monica were then stunned when Emily defended Zander and made
it clear to her family that she would anything she could to help him.
Alan and Monica feared for Emily's safety after Sonny was shot when
Sorel's men made an attempted hit on Zander. Emily still refused to stop seeing
Zander and thinking they had no other choice, Alan and Monica sent Emily away to
boarding school. Emily quickly ran away from school with Zander by her side, but
they soon returned to Port Charles. Alan
and Monica are still determined to keep Emily safe and were dealt another blow
when Emily announced that she was moving out of the mansion and into Kelly's.
Being a Quartermaine, number-one son Alan learned
early on, meant several things: being browbeaten, being discounted and generally
dissed. One woman - his wife, Monica - not only understands those special
pressures that Alan is under, she contributes to them!
Alan arrived in Port Charles from Southampton in 1977 as the guest of Dr.
Rick Webber, who needed someone to fund the new cardiac wing of General
Hospital. Although Alan wrapped up his business in town the following year, he
couldn't wrap up his relationship with Dr. Monica Webber, and so, he made Port
Charles his new home. Alan married Monica in 1978, but he was haunted
by the fear that she still was in love with her old flame, Rick. Thinking that
Monica and Alan's son, Alan Jr., was actually Rick's child, Alan plotted to
murder the lovers in 1980. At the last minute, realizing he'd be the only
suspect, Alan saved their lives. A
year later, with his and Monica's marriage in terrible disrepair, Alan began an
affair with Susan Moore, who bore him a second child, Jason. Alan was all ready
to divorce Monica in 1982 when he became impotent; it turned out, the only woman
who could arouse him was his own wife. In
1986, Alan and his whole family were thrown out of their home by Monica, who had
bankrupted them with her lover and partner in crime Sean Donnelly. Attempting to
frame Sean, Alan faked his own murder and disappeared to Pautuck, N.Y., where he
assumed a new identity, Simon. After a blow to the head left Alan thinking he
really was simple Simon, Monica fell in love with him all over again.
After Alan sabotaged Monica's bid to become the assistant chief of staff
of General Hospital, she retreated to a spa, and he fell prey to the charms of
Lucy Coe, who gleefully announced that she was expecting a Quartermaine heir
(which she later miscarried). Once Alan had divorced Lucy, he reconciled with and
remarried Monica in 1991. It wasn't long, though, before another woman entered
the picture: Rhonda Wexler, the alcoholic mother of Jason's girlfriend, Karen.
Although Alan and Rhonda weren't actually having an affair, he was very
protective of her. In 1993, he went so far as to kill, albeit accidentally, her
old boyfriend, Ray Conway, who had beaten her and abused Karen.
When Monica underwent a mastectomy in 1994, Alan was right there
for her, although she wasn't sure if she wanted him to be. Alan supported
Monica's decision to take in Emily, the daughter of her friend, cancer victim
Page Bowen, but that wasn't all that Monica needed. She felt ugly and succumbed
to the advances of their colleague, Dr. Pierce Dorman. Even after Alan learned
of the affair - and while Dorman falsely accused her of sexual harassment - his
devotion to his wife didn't waver. However, he was not too pleased when his
nephew, Ned Ashton, revealed during Monica's sexual harassment trial that he had
an affair with her at Green Meadows spa. Alan
became addicted to pain killers after Dorman had operated on the hand he had
injured from one of his attempts to kill Monica and Rick many years ago. Alan
had hoped that the operation would allow him to become a surgeon again. Alan's
plans were put on hold when the stress of being a Quartermaine, from Monica's
trial, to Emily's overdose to AJ's problems and Michael's kidnapping -- made him
crave more pain pills. Alan's addiction grew to the point of being
banished from his family, and losing his position at the hospital, before he
finally put himself into rehab. Alan
returned from rehab and reconciled with Monica. Alan also set out to reclaim his
position at the hospital, which he successfully did.
Alan and Monica both continue to be involved in the lives of their
children and neither one was happy when Emily fell heads over heels in love with
Juan Santiago. Not wanting to push Emily away, Monica and Alan allowed Emily to
continue her friendship with Juan. Alan
and Monica also had their share of troubles with AJ, who went into a downward
spiral after his marriage to Carly crumbled. Although concerned about AJ's
drinking and worried over his mental state, Monica and Alan refuse to turn their
backs on their son.
When the former Laura Vining was a girl, she
craved only two things: excitement and love. She found both in abundance with
rogue Luke Spencer. But becoming a mother has changed Laura's priorities. Living
on the edge is fine for her and Luke, but her kids... she doesn't want them
anywhere near it. When Lesley
Faulkner finally discovered 12 years after the fact that her daughter, Laura,
hadn't died in childbirth, she tracked down the girl, who was living with her
adoptive parents, Barbara and Jason Vining, and their daughter, Amy. Lesley sued
for custody of Laura in 1976, but the stress of it so affected Laura that it
gave her seizures. Eventually, Laura came to live with Lesley, anyway, after she
had run away and joined a cult in Canada. Although law student Scotty Baldwin pursued Laura, she was more
interested in Lesley and Rick Webber's house guest, artist David Hamilton, who
treated her like a grownup. After David told her that he'd never been interested
in her, that it always had been his mother he'd wanted, Laura pushed David,
accidentally killing him. Lesley took the fall for his death until Laura
regained her memory of the traumatic event and cleared her.
In 1979, Laura and Scotty became husband and wife. That same year, Laura
became friends with her boss at the mob-run Campus Disco, Luke. The night before
he was to perform a suicide mission for his own boss, Luke acted on his strong
feelings for Laura and, against her wishes, had his way with her. It wasn't
until 1980 that Luke was able to trick Laura into confessing to him that she was
as crazy about him as he was about her. Finally,
in 1981, Laura and Luke married in a lavish ceremony attended by all of Port
Charles - and crashed by Scotty! Helena Cassadine, the widow of Mikkos
Cassadine, the madman Luke had killed while preventing him from freezing the
world, cursed the happy couple. Shortly
after Laura went into modeling as Miss Star Eyes in 1982, she vanished on the
docks of Port Charles. When she turned up a year later, she had an amazing tale
to tell: She had been kidnapped by Stavros Cassadine, Mikkos's son. When she was
informed during her captivity that Luke had died, she wed her captor. At the
time, Laura left out the little detail of her bearing a son, Nikolas, a fact
that would come back to haunt her in 1996.
On the run from the mob, Laura and Luke settled down in Canada. But
kingpin Frank Smith tracked them down in 1993 and drove them out of hiding and
back to Port Charles, with teenage son Lucky in tow. A year later, Laura gave
birth to her and Luke's second child, Lesley Lu.
Although the Spencers managed to blackmail Frank into leaving them alone,
Luke's mob ties continued to haunt the family. After Laura was called upon to
shoot a thug in her own home in order to save Luke's life, she threw out her
husband. They reunited, only to be
torn apart again by the arrival of Stavros Cassadine's brother, Stefan, and his
nephew, Nikolas, in 1996. Laura had a close relationship with Stefan during her
captivity, so close that at one point, they made love. Could he be Nikolas'
father? When Stefan orchestrated the closing of General Hospital, he gave the
choice to Laura: Allow him and Nikolas to remain in Port Charles, or see the
hospital shut down for good. Laura had no choice.
Later, Stefan anonymously enticed the Spencers' son, Lucky, into a
dangerous computer game called Timoria - translation: atonement, the Cassadines'
favorite pastime. Even after Stefan helped save Lucky from quicksand, Laura
wasn't convinced of his innocence. To redeem himself in her eyes, Stefan gave
Laura a gift: her mother, Lesley, who was believed to have died years ago in a
car accident. When Laura went into the building where Lesley was, it exploded.
Stefan had lost his beloved Lasha for good - or so he thought.
Luke and Laura had rigged the explosion to fool Stefan into thinking that
she and Lesley were dead. In reality, they were just hiding out, biding their
time until they could figure out what he was up to.
Later,
after Laura had returned to the realm of the living, Stefan reminded her that
they shared more than friendship in Greece - implying that Nikolas may not be
his nephew but his son. Laura then beat a hasty retreat to Switzerland with
Lesley. Laura returned to Port
Charles and was soon confronted by Lucky with the truth about Luke raping her
many years before in the Campus Disco. Lucky refused to listen to Laura's
explanations about the incident and their relationship was strained for many
months. At this time, Luke and Laura were still very much together and were
determined to win back Lucky's love. Stefan
went on trial for Katherine's murder and although he insisted Laura distance
himself from his case, she couldn't sit back and let an innocent man go on trial
for a murder he didn't commit. As it turned out, Katherine hadn't died at all,
but this fact hadn't been revealed yet. Laura testified at Stefan's trial and
Luke then put the pieces together that Laura had conceived Nikolas with Stefan.
Luke then left Port Charles. Laura found herself more and more attracted to Stefan,
who was sure that he, Laura and Nikolas would be a family one day. Luke returned
to town, but he and Laura remained apart. Laura's world was then shattered when
she and Luke came to believe that Lucky had been killed in a fire.
Laura and Stefan grew even closer and she went to his country house to
recuperate after suffering a breakdown. Laura was livid when she learned that
Katherine was pregnant by Nikolas and that they planned to get married. When
Katherine fell to her death from the parapet at Wyndemere, Laura was falsely
accused of killing her but the charges were later dropped.
Luke shocked Laura one day when he told her that
Lucky was alive and that he had seen him with his own eyes. Luke also told Laura
that Stefan had been responsible for Lucky's kidnapping. Laura confronted Stefan
and held him responsible for Lucky's plight. Luke and Laura then set off to find
Lucky on their own and bring him home. Luke and Laura's journey first led them
back to Ice Princess Island and Laura wasn't pleased when Felicia joined them on
their search. After being led a on
a tour through their shared past by Helena, Luke and Laura were finally reunited
with Lucky at the Triple L diner. Laura's joy at finding Lucky alive was cut
short when he hauled off and slugged Luke. Lucky then took off and Luke and
Laura were dismayed by his behavior. Laura returned to Port Charles and waited for Lucky to come
home. Eventually, Laura saw Lucky in Port Charles, but he remained distant with
her. Laura is still estranged from Luke but she can't forget about the love that
once existed between them. Laura is also very jealous of Luke's close friendship
with Felicia. Laura lives at 24
Royal St. in Port Charles, New York.
